front lca extension?

i am already running a - offset wheel but am hitting everything and not even close to lock with these short knucks. was thinking of extending them 25mil or so. any advise or suggestions on the subject?

thanks

I have a friend who had it done on his car. I think he's running some XXR 962's (17x9.5 +15) with a 25mm spacer in the front and no issues with it. Drifts it regularly. Let me find his username real quick....

I did it to mine.(Meaning call me) its pretty simple. car feels crazy good now.

sent my parts to my buddies to get welded back up. should have them back this week. might need new tie rods now though. im pretty sure i trimmed mine down.

Yea I've been thinking of doing this to get a bit more front track and camber. To people who have done it, do you have to use a longer tie rod? How did you lengthen the control arm? I was thinking of machining a block to bolt to an S4 control arm or something.

yes you need longer tie rods. URAS, or Secret Element makes the extended tie rods - or you can order individual inner rack spacers and thread them on (extend each lower balljoint to the same size as the solid portion of the spacers.

there are a few ways to extend the LCA. pretty much if you have an S5 you're forced to extend the lca end out.

if you have an S4 with the bolt on ball joint just pop off, and extend the bent section the length of the spacers/tie rods or whatever you do

Can you reiterate that second part about the s4?

stevensimon 01-11-12 11:40 AM

ordered the extended collar things from mazdatrix this morning. told them why i needed them and they acted like i was crazy.

S4 LCAs have a removable steel ball joint. Simple to extend.

S5 ball joints are pressed into the control arm. Slightly less simple to extend.

^bad pic, but you can see the control arm.

my car has removable ball joints but they were aluminum. i was hoping that they were steel.

paganizondadude 01-13-12 03:08 AM

yeah wtf. ball joints are alum...

mikerbike 01-13-12 10:03 AM

Interesting. The ones Joshuaput extended a few months ago are definitely not aluminum.

leftcoastdrifter 01-13-12 09:04 PM

They are not aluminum. They look like it but trust me, they're steel. I just extended mine on Monday. They are 1.5 inches longer now and i'm waiting to find stock tie rods to see if they'll reach, I cut my originals when installing the Mazdatrix kit a long time ago.

stevensimon 01-13-12 10:15 PM

im pretty sure mine are aluminum. i even did a magnet test and it didnt stick. straight from parts washer, looked like raw alum to me.

Premiumriceonly 01-16-12 02:43 PM

does anyone on here make these and sell them

driftfcbuckey 01-16-12 10:21 PM

i thought they were cast steel...

they're not aluminum. the LCA's are cast aluminum.

dkwasherexd 01-17-12 02:16 AM

i need to do this.... Ive been wanting to do so for years now, but just havent done it yet.
