Ebrake disscussion NONhydro
Ebrake disscussion NONhydro
Alright i'll try to make this short and sweet. My ebrake is poop so before I replace the whole system with new everything I'm gonna try some things. I just picked up some $16 rear pads from NAPA (green box). Im pretty sure the PO bought expensive "race" pads for my car and it takes awhile for heat to get into them before they lock. I know I can do burouts and hold the ebrake and abunch of other ****. I'm gonna try to go with these cheap guys and hopefully they are shitty and lock real good. Also I adjusted my cable so that **** is tight.
If that doesnt work I might try and go with a dual caliper set up
. I was doing some research and came across this setup.

AND im pretty sure it uses the factory hand brake (if the duals are hooked up)

Here is the feature on the car

Now this is where I might be getting alittle crazy, I was thinking that if I run the dual set up and leave the stock cable hooked then I would have double cool locking power. Since its not like a dual hydro setup I only would have to worry about a second set of lines.
thoughts?
I just really wana do long ebrake drags again
RHDJAPAN sells the kit for a million dollars

Yikes, that's what $2000+ for the conversion? That is expensive. I would be shocked if Wilwood didn't offer a similar caliper for an utter fraction of the cost. i don't know where they would mount to, I'd have to go back out and look at the knuckle. But if there are mounting points back there, an acetylene torch, a drill, and a grinder can turn a carboard template into steel bracketry fairly easily.
My handbrake has just enough strength to hold the car on an incline, but that is just a matter of adjusting it. Race pads don't grip when they're cold, they grip when they're hot. Street pads are the exact opposite. Which is why I can see the advantage in a separate parking brake like the Evo7/8/9's.

If you can design it properly and it's within your price range, I say go for it. I was thinking of doing dual calipers on my FC(for a second) but I haven't had issues with it yet(knock on wood). Ppl sometimes hate on Hydro set ups but I'm sure once you try it out you'll fall in lavu, no more yanking the crap out of it like you're staring up a weed whacker in your car.
making a bracket for another caliper isn't that hard to do. make templates out of cardboard and paper and measure, measure, measure. I've seen people using the 4 pot FC front calipers for this exact purpose and had some decent results. just saying, if you do the work you can save some money assuming you have some basic tools or access to them and mechanical ability.

Wish I had a picture of mine. I added a 16" piece of aluminum to my stock ebrake at it work real good. Im using hawk pads. It doesnt lock as good as my 240 ebrakes in the past but it work. I would like to add a wilwood set up with a custom bracket this winter. I have all the part numbers to do this but i wont be able to send them to you til late june.
in a 10 days time i will install the brembo handbrake calipers together with Aston Martin's DB9 rear calipers and i will share some photos with the installation.
Very expensive solution, hope worth it.
