true about the tires very true but i was thinking going to a junkyard and getting cheap tires from there for when i screw around and but the good ones when im not doing anything stupied.......... But very true the car can break down just taking one corner... i am saying how much i want to drift.. its like my passion but i want to get better before i try real drifting with an fd

You need brand new good tires to drift FD. Cheap loose tires are good to start drift but very difficult to maintain or to get back in line or to swing to the other side.

whould be a good idea, but if you cant get another one i say go find a flat parking lot and set up some cones and see how your car handels to what you do. sorry if last time i came across as telling not to drift it or that you would do something stupid but if you never really tryed to drift a fd is gonna bit tricky and no one wants to see you hit a guard rail or mostlikly understeer in to a curb or something. Chances are you'll hop a curb or bump something its all people are say since you are do this for the first time just because of that reason, I think if you havent done something like that or really close you arent drifting or you got some good natural talent. I'm sure you'll do fine just be observant about how
the car works with you and road you drifting I belive you should be fine.

PS really try to do a skid pad/ parking lot run you'll learn alot good luck!

i had an old AE86 that i used for messing around, thought i was good and ended up on a curb....long story short, drifting is not all its CRACKED up to be (no pun intended) :)

why do you say drifting its not all that its cracked up to be?

I think the reason alot of people are saying that is A) they are to impatient to learn and expect to go out there and do well the first time, its alot like learning to ride a bike or walk for the first time. The more you do it the better you get and DO NOT give up. B) People are afraid to dirft an FD due to the potential problems with the engine, drifting is no harder on the engine than grip racing, nor the suspension; you just eat up tires.

Main differene is speed, in drifting you may hit a wall or curb doing 50 or you could lock the brakes and fly off the track doing 100. Either there are risks in all forms of racing and you must realize the risks and be properly prepared before you venture. Hell, you could total the car just cruising down the freeway or passing thru and intersection, should be just stop driving altogether?!?

that is totally true i mean i want to learn but how the hell can u learn if u dont practice and i understand why ppl say not an fd but i dont have anything else at all exept a dodge neon which is FF and i hate FF

you can use your FD its just gonna be harder to learn on then other drift cars + how much its cost to fix makes it not a great for someone starting, the car is very tuchy

I plan on drifting my car, and understand the potential dangers in it all.

But Im trying to play it smart, and be patient and not do any drifting or whatnot until I have the car fully built on how I would see it fit to handle the abuse.
(Got the engine stuff down pretty much, gonna get a small/thin FMIC and do as much for cooling as I can).
And from there I will go onto suspenision and whatnot essentials needed, and finally a nice daily.
Then onto legal sanctioned local drift events w/ open space to let you get used to how your car reacts and learn to cope/tune it.

Basically...only way to look at it in any motorsport is "You gotta pay to play".

You know.... in several of your posts you have said "It's not like I'm gonna go pushing it really hard!! I'm just gonna drift a little!"

And it really makes it transparent... you know absolutely JACK SHIT about car control.

There is no such thing as not pushing it in a drift, and there is no fucking such thing as a safe drift that you cannot lose control of. IT DOES NOT WORK THAT WAY.

That is WHY it's popular, it's HIGH RISK.

I won't guarantee you will crash like everyone here says.

But I think it's about 99% sure of happening... not to be negative, but you've shown your level of intelligence approaching it... and that's not promising.

If you want to be sure you won't crash... you need a parking lot... approximately the size of a football field with absolutely no obstacles. No light poles. No bump stops.

No doubt you think I'm kidding when I say you need a football field size with no obstacles. Well I'm not, and good luck to you on finding it. You probably won't... you'll probably find a large parking lot with light poles and think you'll just avoid them... and end up wrapped around one.

its true i crashed the crap out of my fc it was actually more curbrash for my rims but none the less. i learned how to drift in snow filled community college parking lots it takes a lot of finesse to get down the throttle control you need to get out of a drift and into another one and the snow is a great place to learn

I played around w/ sliding in parking lots after I first got my FD. And lightpoles tend to popup outta nowhere, and exsperiencing understeer heading at one isnt very easy on the nerves.

Im sure it will be the same with you. You will think your invincible for the first bit, and if you make it outta 2 or 3 close calls, you will come at it w/a total diffrent approach.

uhh no i wont cuz iv had lots of chances to try with medians and poles in the way but i never did it. thats why i asked before if anyone would know an area smart ass

i will not drift the car in an area with medians any where around the car or any objects to damage the car i have like a weird feeling i get if its a good area or a bad area, and every where i been looking has been a bad area

Good, as it shouldn't. And don't tell me to shutup....I made a very wise suggestion if you want to drift. 240's are cheaper, parts are cheaper, and maintainence is cheaper. Plus if you wreck a 240 who cares? wreck an FD and lots of people will hate you.

You wouldn't but you also wouldn't want to wreck it. Be careful. Seems like your trying to take care of it. So good luck. Fd's are fun, but don't get over zealous on the gas in the rain or corners or both at the same time.
