hey i started this thread to know if anyone out here with an FD3s drifts with it and such if so where do u live and where do you go.. im a big big drift fan i am always wishing i can do it but i have no where to go and do it at and i am paranoid with cops if i ever think of trying it on the street

Don't assume you'll be so good that the cops arrive before the tow truck guy. ;)

Couldn't imagine drifting an FD...stuff breaks on it with normal driving as is. I don't want to force anything to break before it has to, and a worn diff and blown tranny is expensive to replace. If you want to drift, get a 240sx and have fun...they're a dime a dozen, you can get one for around $2000 or less in running condition; enough for you to beat on before it breaks. And if it does break, who cares.

i do a little bit , Im in CA and have a few spots i like to hit up. If you are startring drifting for the first time be careful in a FD.

yea i know ppl tell me and tell me this and that no fd drifting bla bla whell if i cant get a used car to screw around with u gotta do with what ya got and im not an expert so i wont run the car hard like the pros but i would like to get close to that.. i live in florida and there is no open spots that i know of..

yeah here in SoCal there are a bunch of drifting places cuz they hold regular drift events every month or two around here but if you don't have any place to drift, you can always try an empty parking lot but be careful not to get caught

i drift with a FD....but only in gran trusimo...LOL

FD is a very hard car to drift. Its reaction time is difficult to handle unless your very quick.

Yeah I'm from Miami Florida, and i havent seen anywhere to drift. Probably upstate or something. i'll check into it later but for now i'll be looking to get a used 2ng gen or maybe a 240 and practice. before i get into the 3rd gen

i wouldnt take a chance in an empty parking lot unless there were no medians and some where that there is away from main roads.. god FLORIDA SUCKS they have no drift events or anything here.. everythings almost is in cali

i drift, just started i usually take my 86 fx16 to drift at the canyons of the 605 and the 60. i tried it wit my fd its really hard wit the power steering compared to my freinds fd with no ps. if your near by pm me we usually hit it up every other week.

im located in Sacramento, northern california i do know of quite a few spots up here to drift at and rx7's can be drifted. its a lil different than other cars because of the weight distribution of a 50/50 car. the car prefers to grip more. drifting is probably the most abusive thing you can do to your car aside from crash testing. i started out drifting by collecting cones and heading out on rainy days to an open parking lot. over time youll learn your countersteering technics and throttle control in the rain at slower speeds then you can start going fast into turns with it. i started out drifting with crappy tires because youll be going through them like crazy. but the moment i put on some good rubber drifting became so much more controllable. one of the coolest places i found to practice drifitng was INSIDE a warehouse building that was being built it had a very smooth concrete surface covered with sawdust and you could practice drifting in and out and through series of turns oaround the support beams of the roof. i brought out about 15 cars to the building and we all parked along the side and offered lighting and took turns drifting through it. that was probably the best practice ever. it was at low speeds but there was nearly zero traction and it front tries lost grip easily too so you were forced to be very smooth and responsve on the countersteering. e-mail me your ever interested on checkin out some of our spots out here- breakbeatz@sbcglobal.net

Hmm i thought the fd is one of the best car to drift thats why they use it in D1. I talked to this guy once that drives a hatchi and he said there's a drifting track in Miami. I'll ask him again when I see him. Maybe on Thursday.

i was speaking more for people who are new to drifting.

You wanna start out drifting in a car like an FD? you're just asking to run into a guardrail.. start off with a less-expensive car which is more underpowered.. easier to control imo.. btw I do drift here and there and am located in Northern Florida (jacksonville) .. i know alot of really empty backroads with wonderful corners.. I'll take you around with my buddy with a FD.. we do our runs weekly =p

Your gonna crash. Just except that fact before you go out and concider if you will survive it. Get some cheap ass 195/205s or something(will take forever to mount) on the 16s and stiff ass springs for parking lot shit. Don't go to the mountains or try to push it with something like that...you will crash. Oh and make sure you have cell phone service so you can call a wrecker before the cops come. I wrecked and had to lay on the side of the road for hours before, by the grace of god, i got one bar of service. Good thing i wasn't hurt.

Oh and yeah the point of the 195/205s or whatever isn't to sit there and power over all day. In fact the wheels are too small you'll prolly just spin out if you tryed. Learn to use weight transfer and stuff.

ok ppl who say that shit about crashing go to hell alright... ok im not one to drift in an area at full speed taking a corner with railings and lose control alright im not an idiot... but i still want to learn, i spent all my money on buying the FD and i dont have money to go buy like a 240 or anything cheap like that.. i know FDs are high mantaince and i only have money for the mantaince if anyone lives around me in davie florida and owns a car i can use to drift, wow that would be great.. dont think that will happen tho..

Its a fact though. you will crash at least once in your drifting career(pro or amateur). It happens to everyone. Unless you just like to drift in a big empty parking lot the whole time(where's the fun though). Sooner or later you will try to expand your world and take it into the streets or a sanctioned race track. There they have barriers and walls. Consider the saying "you will fall a lot of times before you learn how to walk." Good luck on your drifting quest though and keep going sideways :-)

:werd: Happened to me awhile back, and $2,000 later, I stopped doing it...

If you don't have money for a beater, how the hell do you have money for tires, bushings, rear ends, axles, all the other crap that you're very likely to damage just drifting and NOT hitting something. And like they say, if you want to drift, expect to hit something. For the cost of a set of tires I'd scope for a HUGE open parking lot, and hit it up some rainy night, you'll learn valuable lessons, and likely come away with nothing wrong other than some bald tires. Drifting on a street or a track is a virtual garuntee that you're going to have an expensive incident, keep in mind that among other things, you have 2 aluminum control arms at each of the 4 corners of the car, they aint cheap, and hitting something will probably kill a pair of them.
