i've already got a build thread in the 1st gen section but figured only 1st gen owners would really see it, this way if guys have questions with 1st gens I can share my knowledge. I'll keep it sweet and short for the moment. It started life as a badly beaten, stock RX7, one rebuild on the motor and I used it as a street car until the laws over here started to crack down. So start of 2013 I decided to do new diff gears. I installed some 4.77's and fitted a fixed back bride.

This car is hard, I like how you stuck with one particular chassis and just mastered it. Kept it going and stayed loyal to the SA. That's dope.
I have similar plans for my FC once I get it wrapped up and running by this October. |

Okay, little write up.
First off, thank you to all the dudes who came out for moral support/pit crew tonight, you're the best, I love you guys and I appreciate it alot. Night started off pretty average when the wideband started playing up. We decided to pull it out and re calibrate it. Bingo, it worked! We headed over to pan, Ian fiddled with his laptop and worked on the accel enrichments. Headed onto pan with autotune running, sounded like a bag of dicks at first but started to clear up. Felt really nice to slide, power was great. About 2 minutes Ian quickly points out that my temp gauge has sky rocketed so we quickly duck off driving around the carpark doing cool down laps. Ended up hitting 130 degrees and just wouldn't come down, stalled on me, wouldn't start, someone yelled no compression then it started. 13bt won this round Went back to the pits, let it cool down for ages, topped up the coolant, started it, wideband was playing up again. This time we just left it, it skidded fine as it was and we headed onto big track. First lap was sketchy, thought I was going to plow the wall on T3 but saved it. Grabbed 3rd around T6 and it did it with ease. Temps shot up severely again and by this stage we had no bonnet on, ran back to pits, boiled over, shot overflow lid off and was firing steam and water everywhere. We let it cool again and started filling it with coolant, was still hot and was just pumping out the most disgusting water I have ever laid my eyes on. At this point, we removed the Tstat, gutted it, Ian, Zach, Lachlan and Neil made a new gasket out of a manilla folder I had in the car. It also melted the vac line for the gate so had to fix that aswell. With everything back together we headed back out, by this time it was around 9:00 and was the final runs, we got 2 runs in, 1st run was BADASS. Ended into T3 in 3rd, handbrake, dumped 3rd and skidded soooo easy, managed to hold it together for the whole track and pumped out a solid run. Felt really nice to drive, no issues with suspension or driveline so thats a huge plus I suppose. Got one video of it on Pan for the first run, we were running auto tune just starting on the fuel map. I know Lachlan has some photos or something as well. so pretty much - Replace Radiator Genuine Thermostat MAYBE spal fan check wiring (earths mainly for the moment) Replace gate line with something more durable/heatproof Here's a video of pan, only footage we got. |

Best weekend I have had to date.
Matsuri 2013, IT WAS SO WILD. Car drove so damn well. Drove on saturday for around 11 hours without a single hiccup, so many fist pumps and hand signals to cool dudes! it was the greatest weekend I have seriously ever ever had. We had friends fly up from the down south to come up so was badass. Running around 5/6psi of boost now with a Front mount and it's plenty enough power. Still slow enough to have to clutch kick, but enough power to get up on limiter in 3rd gear. Car steered fantastic, coilovers are awesome (even though it's stupidly stiff). I lost all my rear aero after tearing it off from blowing a tire and put a big hole in my underspoiler from it dragging everywhere (yeah, im that low LOL). Anyway, he's a big dump of photos and videos. can you put up detailed set up on your front suspension by any chance? We have a pretty hard time with the 1st gen suspension options in the states.

Been a while.
Broke the 13bt so got rid of it and went back to N/A. 12A Bridgeport, 50mm Injection perfection throttles Megasquirt ECU OMP Delete 2" primaries to diff, 2 1/4 under diff to a muffler to twin 2" stainless pipes 4.9 Welded diff. Been out once since the conversion and it drives really well. Swapped out the innovate wideband for a AEM and really prefer it. Still have some tuning to sort out but we got it pretty decent in the minimal time we tuned it for. Sticker on the wing is custom made, I had it made in the Factory mazda REPU font aswell but this had a cool 90's vibe.
Cant see much but here it is on track while a SR20 Powered navara blows a head trying to keep up haha. |
Engine setup looks awsome. How's it compare so far to the turbo?

Now I've done a fair bit of driving with it you can't really compare the two. The turbo motor was alot stronger at low to mid rpm but tapered off alot and was dropping off power at around 7500rpm, alot this had to do with the turbo choice I made. It was great for drivability as I was pretty much on full boost by 2800/3000rpm.
The N/A BP lacks the mid range power/torque but when you start revving it, it's unreal. I have limiter set at 9000rpm at this stage and it sits on it pretty often. I've always driven my motors hard and this one is no exception. I'm running the toyota hilux diff with 4.9 gears and just a Series 4 RX7 turbo box. The ratios in the gearbox are abit average for the setup, I would love a closer ratio box but Im learning to drive with it as it is. I wouldn't opt back to the turbo setup personally as I love the challenge of trying to drive the car around the track, picking your lines properly to make a corner well. Long time no see.
Done another track day since matsuri, I lowered it more and found the rear end bind is really starting to cause issues now. Before I go full steam ahead with equal length 4 link we are going to try some adjustable upper arms and adjust the pinion angle as it is way out of whack at the moment. Recently got some wider rear wheels, 14 8j -2 SSR XR4's, looks so much better with a bigger rear rather then matching sizes all around. My new hood finally arrived aswell and I have just sent it off for paint. Got myself a random steering wheel from Japan painted beige with pearl/sparkles all through it and a shifter extension made with an adapter to 10x1.25.
