Intellitxt?

Is anyone else getting this intellitxt stuff where certain words get automatically changed to hyperlinks, showing useless webpages? lol (sorry if I'm being so critical, but it's kirkin me out). I thought it was some stupid program that got installed on my computer by accident (aka spyware etc), but when I clicked on the "what's this?" link at the top of the info box that pops up if the cursor is placed over the intellitexted word, it said www.rx7club.com has partnered up w/ Intellitxt??

FB II 09-21-05 05:03 AM

AHHHHHHH YES!!!!! i fucking can't stand it!! i about made a post in the lounge, but searched for someone else yielding the same issue and found you haha. can we turn this shit off???? OMFG I HATE IT!!!! i feel like my computer has been violated. it should be an option please :D

Rx4 whore 09-21-05 06:25 AM

First -
I appreciate the free use of this forum.
I understand servers & bandwidth cost actual money.
I have no problem with sponsored links that support the forum & it's administration.

My suggestion-
The underscores are OK, but the color is difficult to see & read in blue background.
Leaving the user default color would still show the underscores.

Umrswimr 09-21-05 08:48 AM

Yes, we noticed it yesterday. Yes, we posted our opinion about it in a thread here in the suggestion forum. Yes, it was deleted.

yep, I was just about ready to type that. Somehow I just noticed that other thread disappeared

Gamezilla 09-21-05 10:02 AM

Thank god. I thought I was going nuts. It started doing it and I was like "holy crap, do I have spyware somehow?" But it only does it on this site. What gayness.

patman 09-21-05 10:22 AM

i also am not a fan

Pele 09-21-05 10:44 AM

I just wish the links were RELAVENT...

Auto Parts suppliers, both aftermarket and stock; Tools suppliers; etc... All would be good choices... RV insurance? Not so much.

dantheman 09-21-05 11:41 AM

I personaly like "Tornado Fuel Saver!"

That doesn't work on anything, and I don't think they make one for a 7 anyway. . . .

Tofuball 09-21-05 01:23 PM

Yeh, money to pay for the forum we enjoy has gotta come from somewhere!!

. . .

Tho I think this idea is pretty lame X_X

But hey, I'll put up with the minor annoyance if I have to :p * Shrug *

patman 09-21-05 01:28 PM

i been thinking about this for a while today, since i am a loser and this forum is basically my life, lol.

the intellitext stuff sucks.

if it was so hard to pay for this forum, why not just post an announcement and threaten us with the intellitext ads first? as in, donate some money, or we'll do this. or even charge like a buck or two a year to be a member. thats what, 20k a year?

it just seams like a cheap way to do it to me

pat

Taka87 09-21-05 02:00 PM

We could be like some forums, and pay 40 a year to get our user names in.........italics!!!!!

Stanello 09-21-05 02:08 PM

heh. I thought it was spyware...sheesh

patman 09-21-05 02:24 PM

to get rid of it (windows xp)

go to c:/windows/system32/drivers/etc

open the 'hosts' file in notepad

add this line
0.0.0.0 rx7club.us.intellitxt.com

viola no more green links

Umrswimr 09-21-05 02:55 PM

Uh ohs... I feel a ban coming my way VERY soon lol. :( Sorry... I was just KIRKIN cuz I went through my add/remove programs list 1001 times, and couldn't find what it was. I even removed a few patches that were recently installed b/c they mentioned something about a search toolbar lol.

Pat, thanks for the fix! Badass! (Hope we all don't all of a sudden disappear from the forum haha)

~Ramy :D

Rx4 whore 09-21-05 08:16 PM

Patman you are the BOMB :)

that worked a treat.
Maybe there should be a big banner add on every page describing how to remove the intellitxt :)

WonkoTheSane 09-21-05 09:24 PM

It wouldn't be so bad if the text was in a light green or grey or blue or something, but with this dark-blue (plasma). theme, it makes the word virtually unreadable. I'm thinking about disabling it through the hosts file, simply because of that. I have no problem with the ads (n matter how unrelated perfume is to ferarri), it's just annoying to not be able to read the text.

Syonyk 09-21-05 10:40 PM

That works on Unixes too - just put the line in /etc/hosts

You want a head-scratcher? Try to figure out how that underlined popover crap (which is typically adware/spyware) gets put on a Linux laptop that I admin myself.

Anyway, if money is an issue, ask. Or do a subscription service that adds perks. Options I've seen floating around on other forums:
Subscribers are the only ones who can change their "subtitle"
Subscribers are the only ones who can post in the lounge/etc

That intellitext stuff is just... horrid. Sorry.

-=Russ=-

krackerx7 09-22-05 02:15 PM

if money is the issue and im sure that it is there has to be a better way then this ask for donations more often the last time i saw a thing asking for money for the forum i donated $20 a little bit from everybody will go along way. and people are more than willing to help the forum. but please no intellicrap

13angryB's 09-26-05 03:27 PM

Anyone know how to remove the links in Win2K pro?

Syonyk 01-18-06 03:44 PM

How much do I have to pay to disable that damn Intelltext crap?

It's not disabling as easily as it used to...

How much do I have to donate, where, to get rid of it?

-=Russ=-

vex 01-19-06 06:28 PM

I too would rather donate that have the intellitext take over the forum.

neofreak 01-19-06 06:30 PM

use firefox and block it

Sprockett 08-31-07 02:57 PM

Ads are pissing me off

:icon_no2:

Now I understand that this is a free board to its members, and that it costs money to run something like this place, but the ads imbedded in the text of posts are PISSING ME THE FUCK OFF. I move my mouse across one, and a video started to load. WTF? :wallbash: Worst form of advertising on the planet.

mike_merryguy 08-31-07 03:38 PM

i agree, i thought that crap was some adware on my computer and started virus scanning, GET RID OF THAT CRAP

Sprockett 08-31-07 03:48 PM

For instance, right now...you have FOUR in your signature. Rx7, shift knob, pedals, engine....all green links from HELL

Syonyk 09-02-07 12:41 PM

Concur. Charge membership fees if needed to change the user subtitle or something, but the ads have to go.

But yeah, these things are pissing me off too.

Terrh 09-03-07 08:53 AM

+1, wtf is this "live search" crap.

how much income do you get from me coming here?

can I pay it in cash to have /all/ the adds go away?

Did that way back when the intellitext thing was first added. I was wondering what everyone was griping about. I guess I had forgot all about those annoying green links from hell.......

you can do the same thing on a mac.

or you can use saft if you use safari for adblocking, or install adblock plus on firefox.

Natey 09-05-07 09:59 PM

I have never seen any ads here with Firefox.

RotaryResurrection 09-07-07 02:04 AM

Here is my host file list and I still get the fucking ads on this machine. On my other 2 I do not get them for some reason.
