Annoying flashing ads

For the love of god, no more of these.

Get FF3, apply NoScript and AdBlock, take daily.

That does not look like a addin for this site but rather your machine is just to open to the web.

Huh? Well my machine does have internet, but that ad was on the site. It wasn't a pop up if that's what you mean.

DrKillJoY 08-06-08 12:00 PM

I've never seen that banner. Time to run Hijackthis! =)

(Seriously, I will keep my eye out for it.)

Viking War Hammer 08-07-08 01:05 PM

I just got the same ad, not only does it flash and blink. It also gives you the error "Beep" every 3 seconds. Very bad.

DrKillJoY 08-07-08 01:54 PM

Next time someone sees it please right click and give me the URL or file name .. Thanks.

Censoring the ads?

Ok, I know, new owners and whatnot means plenty more ads and all of that... but this one is just going too far. Some of them are relevant, some are out there, but none of them have made noises until this one:
https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...1&d=1218252506
I just find this extraordinarily annoying since it has NOTHING to do with the forum, RX-7's, rotaries, or anything, AND IT MAKES FUCKING NOISES!!! I normally dont complain about stuff on here cause for the most part I see how the additional ads and changes and stuff could be rationalized... but this one specific ad (and anything else that makes noise without me taking any action to provoke it) is over the top. Please, is it possible to block these sort of blatant "CLICK ME CLICK ME OR I'LL ANNOY THE SHIT OUTTA YOU" type of banners?

Thanks [/rant]

jshiz 08-08-08 10:33 PM

I just had that ad and it annoyed the fuck outta me

Archie 08-08-08 10:39 PM

+1, I had to re-load the page because it kept dinging.

MavrickFD 08-08-08 10:41 PM

I just noticed it too. Never thought I'd be seeing this type of stuff here.

IaMtHeRuThLeSs1 08-08-08 11:18 PM

ad block plus is your friend. I've never seen it...actually, I don't see any ads 7club, I've blocked all of them.

Evil Aviator 08-09-08 06:21 AM

The spam that comes in as actual posts bothers me too. Example from the EMS forum:

I moderated this website for several years, and I don't remember anything like this prior to the website sale.

There's always been spam, it's just a bit worse now for all forums.

Interesting that as a moderator of the EMS forums, I didn't receive a single report notifying me of this spam.

The spam that I remember from before would be something minor like a free ipod scam. This x-rated and child porn stuff is disturbing, especially since it sometimes gets posted inside a legitimate thread.

Icemark deleted that particular thread, so he may have caught it while browsing. I have reported at least 2 of these in the last month or so.

I guess you didn't catch the #8 post here either?

I made a thread about that ad in comments and suggestions, I think killjoy is checking it out

DrKillJoY 08-09-08 07:36 PM

Also for IE users if you install the http://www.ie7pro.com/ plug-in the ads all but disappear.

I haven't made contract with the guys at IB yet about the issue, still trying to get the some properties for the ads.

I know where they are going thanks to Biz, but not exactly where they originate.

It's just the general shift in spam that has occurred over the past few months. Every forum is effected, not just this one. Up until a few weeks ago I was deleting several of these posts per day on my own website's forum. For some odd reason it just stopped but I'm sure it will start again at some point.

Just be glad it's not the same crap I was seeing on my forum. Sometimes the posts would include pages of embedded images and videos. Wonderful stuff...

It's deleted now. I can't recall seeing that in a report. However since reports are only emails and not PMs (which is weird...both would be very handy) it is possible the message got lost. Unlikely though since I get all of these on my Blackberry.

Brismo7 08-16-08 04:22 PM

I got this ad just now for the first time.
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...AnnoyingAD.jpg
Here is the link that it sends me too if i click on it:
http://www.consumer-researchbureau.c...811aaa:116050:

I dont know what else to add that could be of help to remove these...

DrKillJoY 08-16-08 09:27 PM

I don't really care about what website it takes you to... what I need are the properties of the ad. FWIW I still have never seen the ad.

When you see it right click on it and grab the address/url name please.

Thanks.

DrKillJoY 10-16-08 05:14 PM

I haven't seen any problems with this in a while, are there still any issues?
