Blue is my favorite color :). Previous engine was a baby blue, this will be a darker, more vivid blue. I got the grey idea from Phil. Goopy did great work on the block, really glad with my choice.

Unlike places up here who bitch about doing custom work/machining and moan about it being difficult. Goopy is just like lets get her done with next day turnover. He's a great guy, stayed at the shop until 10pm on a Saturday taking care of my baby :)

Wow looks good, keep the photos of the progress coming :)

On a side note.. How long are you going to be using it as a kitchen table center piece now that it's got some paint ? (See above pictures lol)

The man himself behind the name Goopy (Jonathan) double checking its all good.

Bad news is I have to change all the rotor bearings. Well one is in good shape but since I'm changing the other 2, I'm changing them all. Also all 3 stationary gear bearings need to be changed and the 20b center stationary gear needs to be changed as there is noticeable wear on the gear teeth...

That's a lot unusual of wear for a low mileage engine. Do you have any pictures of the parts you're planning on replacing? Have you taken measurements of the rotor bearings with inside mic? It would suck to replace all those parts unnecessarily.

thewird 10-15-12 10:57 PM

I think the the oil maintenance on the motor wasn't too good. All parts that oil touches appeared to be oil burned (for lack of a better description). Most of the bearings looked visually bad, I didn't bother measuring them. I do prefer used bearings over new but I decided to install deep groove race bearings anyway.

So what are you going to put behind that engine for a trans? just a stock FD trans?

I can't keep transmissions in my GTR anymore it seems, I have spent more money on transmissions for that car than I put into my entire FC including buying it.

Anyways, can't wait to see this thing in action next year.

idiazs 10-15-12 11:48 PM

Love the 20b can't wait to see pictures of it done.

Stock but I'm thinking about raising my rear end gear to reduce the load on the trans.

Wouldn't the R32 have tons of tranny options?

thewird

Terrh 10-16-12 10:34 AM

Yeah, tons. Most cost more than the entire car is worth. My most recent attempt was an R34 6 speed (made by getrag, same as the MKIV supra trans) and it was broken before I even put it in apparently. This winter I'm going to rebuild it and see what happens in 2013.

If your trans is in good shape, and you don't put too nasty of a clutch in it you might get lucky and have it live a while. I think heat and 4WD are what kills the skyline transmissions.

Not really any updates but I acquired a new winter beater, a Nissan Pathfinder. Which I will be using to tow the car to the track next year instead of driving it :)

Cause I have nothing better to do I already ordered a cold air intake and new spark plugs for it. K&N claims 14.5 hp but I just did it cause the filter needs to be changed anyway. Maybe an exhaust next LOL?

Isn't this going to be a dual purpose car? If so why tow it when you can drive it?

10aeRX7 11-06-12 01:55 PM

truck is nice but i would have bought something diesel for towing. build is looking awesome by the way.

Because changing tires at the track is a giant pita and someone stole my trailer so... Plus, I can remove like 30-40 pounds by removing my trailer hitch LOL. It might actually be cheaper on gas getting there too, towing with a 20b is gonna be fuel hungry

I agree, I've had my eyes on the BMW X-5 Diesel ever since I saw they offered it in Diesel. But you can't argue with free lol :icon_tup:

Not too much of an update yet but I've acquired my ECU thanks to Ian letting go of his ^_^. My RW titanium exhaust sleeves came in too. My turbo is at the machine shop getting a custom aluminum backplate made to save weight as well so hopefully I'll have it before Christmas. Slowly moving along.
