Sadly, misterstyx69 has passed
It is with great sadness that I must report the passing of our friend Dave (misterstyx69) on May 12th, 2018.
Dave was a grizzled old bugger from down the valley, with a joy for life and sense of humour that always put a smile on your face. He was a generous guy, always up for helping folks source parts for their projects or lending a hand. I don't know much about his past or his life, but I know that he has been a valued member of this club for over a decade and that every time I ever met him I left with a smile. Dave's family is not holding services as per his wishes, but they say that if folks want to do something to honour his memory they invite you to make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society Folks are welcome to post stories and pictures about him in this thread. Cheers Dave, you will be greatly missed. Edit: Added information about lack of services and about donations. |
Dave, was an easy going guy who had a joke for every situation. Will miss his comments on the forum.
|
I never interacted with him directly, but you can tell with everything he posts, and everything he does, it's with care for the community. Not only the Canadian community, but the whole rotary community just had a great loss. He will certainly be missed.
|
Man, this is a huge bummer. I truly enjoyed his jokes and attitude on the forum, he was great in the bad guy section.
|
What??
Cheers to one of this forum's greatest assets. He always had a way of squashing arguments with a little joke or funny comment. Dave will be missed around here for a long time to come. Prayers go out to his family. |
RIP Dave.. :(
We lost a good one guys... condolences to the family. |
He will be surely missed by all those around him, he was a good friend and always brought a smile even when he was down and out.
I saw him several weeks ago and even then he was still in good spirits. RIP Dave.. |
This is horrible news...I was hoping this was some sort of joke he was playing when I saw the title.
Like many, I only knew Dave through this forum. His presence will certainly be missed... |
No way .... i was talking to him not to long ago .... he was always so helpful and eager to look for parts that could help my build.
Man this is truly a sad day. |
I met Dave in 2013 at a meet in Ottawa and he was a very jovial and lively character but all aside was a very kind person always taking the time to wish everyone on the forum well wishes on their birthdays, Christmas etc. He was truly an asset to the Rotary community and will be missed for sure. God Bless and may he RIP.

I've edited the top post to reflect the fact that his family won't be having services, but that folks who want to may donate in his name.
|
This is sad news. I've dealt back and forth with Dave for as long as I've been on this forum. He was always there to give advise, provide a part that no one else had ( and get it shipped out asap), and the jokes/comments. He truly was a character and a great guy. I know he has been in poor health for a while now and I'm glad that is over for him. He will be greatly missed by all of us.

As a few others have said, up until I last saw him a couple weeks ago, he was in good spirits despite what he was going through. His sense of humour, positivity, and helpfulness will definitely be missed On this forum. RIP Dave |
Such sad news.
I'm so glad I had the pleasure of meeting him in person, of chatting with him many times, and I was shocked to hear of his illness when he told me back in March. RIP my friend. You will be missed. |
Horrible news... he had mentioned health issues before but I didn't know the details. I'd bet half of the FC's around here have a part or 2 that passed through styx's hands at some point. RIP

This saddens me. I talked to dave back in January about getting me a wiper switch. I was just thinking about him about two weeks ago and was going to message him. Ive met dave on several occasions. Im from Alberta but always make a point of visiting him when Im out east and have the time. Ive bought alot of parts from him and also sold alot of parts to him. Solid dude. RIP bud. |
I didnt know him apart from in here, have been umming and ahing about what to say or even if its my place to say anything, but this has come as a shock and i always had the impression he was a really good guy who always had a positive attitude, help and advice forr anyone and a joke completely out of left field for every occassion, and i just wanted to pay my respects.
Fuck cancer. RIP Mister Styx. |
Dave was always an awesome dude. My deepest condolences to his family and fellow friends on here. He always seemed to come through with parts when I couldn't find them elsewhere, and was always ready to go grab a coffee if I happened to be up in ottawa.
|
This is sad i just found out. Ill miss the guy for sure as im sure many other will. Was always fun talking to him or making a deal for something. You will be missed. My condolences to his family.

Such a bad news to hear, he was never the one to complain about whats happening to him. Always willing to give a helping hand or some tips to fellow RX7 owners. I’ll always remember when he drove to my place to buy a exhaust with his mother, they had a bunch of aventures on their way like almost getting hit by a 53’... dude, you will be missed. Thanks for being a good person , hopefully you finally stopped suffering.https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...c9bb6ce719.pnghttps://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...07d6c15b5b.png |
im in shock... rest in peace
hes probably already having insightful discussions with the rotary gods... |
Very sorry to hear about Dave. he was a long time member of the community. Cancer sucks.
RIP -M |
Very sad to hear of his passing. Always positive, no matter what he was going through personally.
I believe he was a line worker (on electrical towers) before his health took a turn. Met him many years ago when I did a detour on my way to Ottawa to pick up an LSD diff he was selling. Couple years ago I was looking for a rear suspension cam bolt and he just shipped them to me and refused to take money for it. Just one of those people you meet once, but remember fondly forever. My condolences to all affected, especially his family. |
Heard about his passing on Facebook this morning, shocked didn't even know he was sick.
RIP Dave and my condolences to his family. :( |
Dave was such a good guy, he was always joking while helping other members. My deepest condolences go out to his family and friends. RIP Dave “Mystery” Styx, you will be missed |
