I'm in the same situation, owned my fd for near 3 years now, i'm 20 years old, leaving with mom and dad. But, i have a few other payments to do :)

You guys have been lucky with CAA, When I called for a tow and asked for a flat bed, first thing they asked was if the car was modified in any way, they then refused to tow the car.

CAA will tow any car. You have to be smooth in asking for a flat bed.
They always ask me "did you modify the ride height?" I tell them no. They're going to say "then you don't need a flatbed" but I tell them the car is naturally low so it will not be towed unless a flatbed is provided. So they make some adjustments and get me the flatbed.

i know the same feeling. I just tell them that last tim eyou guys told me i dont need one the driver got upset at me and told me i should have asked for one. Next thing i know i get a flat bed. I've have always managed to get the best operators aswell. Never had a prob with the, they seem to always take good care of the car loading it.

FDs have always been my dream car, but the bank didnt like the fact that i wanted a loan for 20k for a 1993, so that dream died away fast. But they wernt so damn hesitant to loan me 20k for a WRX........

but with the current flow of RHD FDs from JDMland i might be able to scam myself a fix me up FD for cheap....i have a local expert in the area to help with an engine overhaul anyways.

the problem again is the damn bank :/ but its been 2 years since i bought myself a WRX, i manage to build up some sort of a credit lol. so right now i have a 20k line of credit, so i think that'll be the only way i'll ever get the money for an FD.

so in a way i give it a huge thumbs up, but in the same time FDs wont be so damn rare anymore. just like the Skylines, everyone first horny when they see a GTR, and its starting to wear off. i doubt that'll happen with the FD, cus its so damn sexy.

Maintenience issues were completely not part of my thinking in me wanting an FD, i figured if i worked my ass off over my summer, i could make about 4 or 5 grand, save the rest of my money from now, and then bam, i got myself the most pimping car an 18year old could afford.....then i realized it would be wise to have insurance, and i figured why not have some gas every once in a while so i could drive it.....then i'm not so pimping when i run out of gas causing me to get rear ended without my insurance. So i figure i'll wait until i can actually afford one. Overall, i'd give a jdm car thumbs up because i know whomever imported had to take their time and wait patiently for their car. Not that any lhd owners got their car instantly....unless they got it 'fresh'

I'll have to take note of the flatbed thing for CAA, the tow truck got really mad with my brother when his T/A was towed.... But CAA did send me a flatbed for my old Ranger....

As for younger people with the JDM cars, sweet, hopefully they can't afford it and will sell it to me for dirt cheap:P And many people are asking around 5-6k for their FC's which aren't in the best of shape, so why not fork up the couple extra grand and get yourself a nice FD. Sports cars aren't daily drivers, unless you got an even better one for the nice days;)

The only downside I'm seeing right now from a ' rotory enthusiast ' POV is that ricer knuckleheads are now buying them instead of the Silvia's.. I've seen 2 such people up this way purchase a 92' with their first questions being ' so how do these work?' .. which is fine, but when the ask-ees know as much as the ask-er.. it's scary and sad at the same time. Unfortunately I see the rotory equipped FD loosing it's place of respect as a pure enthusiasts car driven by knowledgeable owners..

That being said ( above ) , the quicker will find out the less lenient the rotary is to poor care and incorrect moding. tranlating into rollers for others.

I must say I havetn seen too many cheap and perfect FDs , have seen a few for sale and the nice ones are in the 14-18 k RHD and the ones for 8-12 k really show the price ( wrecked interior leaky turbos andprobably poor engines ) .

But Im not against it, I think the more the marrier.

btw, a regular tow truck can tow an FD just fine. They aren't special. They have 4 wheels just like every other car.

Unless you've lowered the car (and even then) a regular tow truck will work just fine.

On dolleys maybe. My stock height FD with R1 lip will scrap going up any moderately inclined driveway so there's no way it'll be able to on a regular tow.

im buying my rex soon, it gets here within 2-3 weeks... im reading these forums and finding out the problems with the FD engine's ETC. now i make sum alright cash and im gettin a loan for this car so more than 50% of my money will be spent on keeping this car on the road. the car im buying is in MINT condition completly stock other than the exhaust, with 80,007km im buying it for $14,000 i havent seen an fd around here for less than 20,000 and they werent even in half as good of condition as this one is in... so for me if i want an fd then well 14g's is hella easier of a loan to afford than a 20k loan.. might aswell just get a new car if im gonna do that. but i want an fd so bad ever since i was young. "my dream car" ive said to so many people, Even though im new to this club and im new to FD's im doing as much homework as i can and finding out all the facts. so that i can become one of the Enthusiast on this site, so im asking if i ever have a qustion dont look at me as a hurtin ricer because i plan on keeping this car balls stock (Except interior) I want to keep it on the road and running great. Im a rotarty expert to be. Mistake's/problems that may come with an FD will be a burdin i wont mind carrying as long as you guys can gimme a hand and answer my newb questions.

Perhaps so, but far more common seems to be in the mid-20k+ range for anything decent, especially here in Alberta. Hell, I recall seeing a rolled FD out of Quebec on the auto trader last year that they wanted 10k firm for it - and by rolled, I mean it looked like it had done multiple endo's - there was nothing salvagable left of the body, it would have looked right at home in a stack of crushed cars in the scrapyard, so they must have figured the drivetrain and odd suspension bit that might be undamaged was worth 10k.

i'm not big on RHD cars period. Some assholes barely know how to make a safe left turn in a LHD car, and when i'm crossing an intersection on my bike.... it's not fun getting nailed.

9 out of 10 fd's over here are jap imports. We only had something like 125 fd's shipped to the uk from new, most of them rusting on the chassis and wheel arches by now. Where i live, in a 20square mile radius there are about 10 fd's but they are still a rare sight over here and that's in little britian so imo nothing to worry about in canada. Parts are not a problem, the only downside is your car doesn't feel "rare", but it still is.
