Hey guys, just thought drop in and say hi
Im new here and just found this site, looks like there is lots of good info to be found.

My new car is a 92 JDM FD and is in the middle of the pacific at the moment.....Im dying to take it for a rip already. my buddy in Japan hooked me up with this rare yellow one.... 49K on it , Tien coils, Kakimoto exh, Blitz int, and wed sports light weight 17's.

Ever since I sold my N/A 90 I new I had to get another one... rotory motors are way to much fun to drive

Ill post more pics when i pick it up..... cheers

7_rocket 02-01-07 05:12 PM

congrats, but honestly that front bumper looks like crap

M-SPEC 02-01-07 05:27 PM

thanks .....? I think it will look better when I get some side skirts

FC3S.USD 02-01-07 05:35 PM

Car looks very nice, first time i see that front bumper, very smooth .

Welcome back to the bankrupcyside, I mean darkside . And to the club.

Hope you enjoy her .

mbonner 02-01-07 05:42 PM

I was wondering how a RHD car is driven on 2 lane hiways here in North America?
Do you have a passenger you can trust as an observer when you pull out to take a peek around those 2 semis doing 120 km in front of you? Just asked because when I lived in England I would take my Mini-Cooper S to France to go to the 24 Hour Lemans each year and used to scare myself every 50 miles. Just curious, as it seems a boatload of FDs are on the way, and I mean a boatload!

RE-Amemiya 02-01-07 06:00 PM

Congrats!

M-SPEC 02-01-07 06:31 PM

thanks guys , driving RHD on LHD roads are not too bad when you get used to it (I drive a r32 and a MR2 aswell) so Im very used to RHD now, the big issue is passing on single lane roads where , A/ you dont pass B/ look through the windows of car in front of you (if possible) C/ get a "back up cam" and mount it in the front left bumper or
D.... drive by faith LOL

lookin forward to some meets in the summer

cheers...

thebisnac 02-01-07 07:25 PM

Nice FD..i believe I saw this for sale online to import. Congrats on the purchase

rd_turbo 02-01-07 10:37 PM

Sweet little beast. It's just nuts how the steering shaft packages next to the turbos on them RHD FDs.

Mazdabation 02-01-07 10:56 PM

Block off that IC duct, you'll be loosing a shit load of air!

M-SPEC 02-02-07 02:51 PM

rd turbo, your right it is strange and will be fun to work around that area

So what are some must do mods on these cars?

- Ive heard that it is a wise idea to replace the vacum hoses around the intake manifold
- going to get a larger HKS IC
- new fuel pump (255?)
- new injectors... w/FPR and rail
- HKS EVC

from what I gather the fuel delivery and cooling is a little weak on these cars ... how do you guys keep them cool ? aluminium rad's, is there better water pumps out there?

well I live 5 min away from Staffs auto ..... he will be seeing a lot of me lol

Terrh 02-02-07 03:24 PM

nice car.

First front bumper I've seen on an FD that I actually liked!

Spike23 02-02-07 03:52 PM

Hey M-Spec, how much did the car cost to import here =)?
NIce car btw.

RedShayla 02-02-07 04:44 PM

mmmmm yellowwww. :-)

M-SPEC 02-03-07 03:38 PM

ya yellow..... :naughty: never had a yellow car before

spike , it was around 10K, I thought it was good price with the gear on it and could not pass it up

Flash 02-03-07 06:06 PM

Hey congrats.

Not my taste [mostly the wing], but I can certainly appreciate it. Should be a lot of fun!

As for rhd on the highway, when I pass if I can't use the windows in the car I'm passing, then I back off enough to see. Then the turbo does the rest :p

SuperRotorMan 02-03-07 07:49 PM

very nice car bud... welcome to the JDM club... We Are The Few and The Proud... lol check out my ride bud...

soulja77 02-03-07 08:09 PM

what a sweet FD. I found parallel parking a bit trickier with RHD. Just takes practise...

10k wow, is that 10k landed?

sevensix 02-04-07 01:26 AM

canada has some HOT fds :icon_tup: holy #@$&*(O

M-SPEC 02-04-07 03:26 PM

SuperRotorMan , thanks dude , I like your ride, it was just like my old one minus the turbo and RHD.... that car made me fall in love with the rotory.... but could never afford a FD untill the import law showed us some luv

and yes about 10K shipped but my friend hooks me up BIG TIME and I can get lots more he he he .....

Football22 02-04-07 04:49 PM

congrats on the buy. it looks nice. Did this car come from a auction or a private sale?

donz 02-04-07 08:11 PM

Are you importing your self? are you getting someone to deal with brokerage for you?

M-SPEC 02-05-07 02:16 PM

I import them myself, I do use a custom's broaker to deal with all the paper work and to make sure they get through ok, but Im not an auto dealer or any thing like that I just import cars for my friends so we can tweak and race them (not on the streets).
I have a good connection in Japan that ownes a car lot, who gets cars privatly and from the auctions aswell. I got into importing them about 2 years ago when the skyline became availible, at the time I was working at a subaru tuning shop, that built rally and race cars. so I had to get somthing to lay the smack down on subies.... of course once my brother and my buddy at the shop saw it ....... well I had a long list of cars to bring in for them.

So if any one needs any advice on importing, I would be more than happy to help you out

cheers.....M-SPEC

Football22 02-05-07 02:35 PM

Who are you using as your customs broker? I might be going through Courtney agencys. They charge $250+GST to get the car through. But I might also be looking for a customs agent that has some storage space just incase if I can't fly down right away to get the car. Or a customs agent who will arrange shipping to Calgary for me if I end up not driving the car home.

M-SPEC 02-05-07 03:50 PM

Football22, PMed you

Oh thats nice =D ya looks really clean the engine bay. Also with lots of goodies you listed.
Well good luck with the vehicle =D, maybe someday i'll be able to grab one too.

clandestine 02-08-07 01:24 AM

bought from japanautodirect?

SuperRotorMan 02-08-07 02:09 PM

where did u order yours from? my buddy has the best site out there for ordering anything RHD... http://www.importconcern.ca/perl/broker.pl check it out, and if u let me set up the deal i could prolly get 1000 bucks chopped off the price... yea for my JDM FC i only paid $4,400 lol... but from what i hear this year the canadian government is gunna crack down on importing cars. the canadian government doesnt like us putting your money into japans economy instead of ours. As it stands right now with current laws, its almost impossible to legalize skylines... so if your canadian and looking to get a JDM u better act fast, you may only have a 6 months or so to place your orders... PM me if your interested in getting more info... peace

M-SPEC 02-08-07 04:26 PM

Hey guys, the Canadian gov have been saying that for a while and at the moment nothing is going to be changed for a while, they are making the inspections more strict (they rules never changed) but they are under allot more pressure to not let any thing slide anymore.
skylines are by far the tough cars to get through inspection, but for us with RX7's they where produced for here aswell so every thing on the car ( - the 14$ sealed beam head lights) will have AS1, AS2, on the window glass and DOT or AS on the tail lights.
Ive also heard talk of the law being changed so I called the Ministry of transport my self and asked, this is exactly what he said " it takes forever for Canada to pass a bill like this" he said at the moment the MOT and ICBC are trying to see if there are any correlation between an increase of claims or crashes made by RHD cars to justify changing a law. he said it would take at least 1-2 years to get something like this passed and implemented (hopefully after the 2JZ supra is eligible for import). and for those of you thinking of importing, even if you buy a car and is waiting for shipping and the law changes you WILL still be allowed to bring it in (grand father clause).
You want to know the real reason so much pressure is being applied to change this,
the greedy a$$ MVDA and all the new auto dealers are loosing money because they cant sell the latest over priced POS that was slapped together by a robot. I personally think all cars have gone down hill since 2001 even the euros... so cheap and plastic now

clandestine yes I did get it from JAD, they where (when I started) one of the few exporters that seemed to know what they are doing and where fluent in english, they where good at getting the cars and paper work out on time, plus you can go through the car with them on the phone ect.... This FD will be the 9th car I have imported through them and so far there has been NO major problem’s with any of the cars (knock on metal) the biggest job I had to do was change the intake gasket on my MR2 and basic tune up on the rest of them
so I am happy with their service, plus they give me below dealer cost on all my rides

hope that makes sense lol

cheers....M-SPEC

clandestine 02-08-07 05:39 PM

M-Spec, wow very detailed description, yea i'm on the mailing list and that was one of the cars I noticed because the FD was bright yellow and I was interested but hesitant to try anything. But you bought the car now, so congrats man, post some real post-shipment pics when you get it!

M-SPEC 02-08-07 06:04 PM

yes the first one is always a nervous experience... let me tell ya, but when it shows up and its what its supposed to be, well I import all my cars both RHD and LHD from abroad now
.... better bodies, lower K's, Jap or Euro spec motors at a fraction of the price ... but you have to wait month or two wich I can live with

law9 02-08-07 07:00 PM

such a nice car!!

M-SPEC 02-10-07 02:55 PM

Thanks Law9, I got the papers for it now and will be here in van on tuesday...woooot  so maybe on monday (the next week) I can pick it up if all goes well

blown7 02-10-07 06:35 PM

85rotarypower 02-12-07 09:21 AM

What would it take to get an R32 Skyline GTR over? I'm thinking I want one sometime in the next 2 years.

M-SPEC 02-12-07 03:25 PM

I would not take too much ...... cash is the main factor, and it depends on what type of GTR your looking for, ie.. a heavy moded one with 20K worth parts on it or a clean bone stock one or the uber pricey nismo editions. but for a nice clean one shipped to vancouver you would expect to pay (if I brought it in) 14-15K for it and maybe $200 to get DOT lights on it.
you can always PM me if you would like more info on importing

cheers... M-SPEC

M-SPEC 02-23-07 07:16 PM

I thought I would update this a bit and let you all know how things are going on the RX7.
I picked it up at the new west port on wednesday and it went very smooth, the papers where all good and they released the car to me.
If any of you do go out to the port or any where for that matter to pick up a imported car
make sure you have
1/ Jumper cables or a fresh battery (every car I have ever picked up has a flat battery)
2/ 94 Gas (all cars have less than a 1/4 tank, my car had enough to idle for 2 min)
3/ Some thing to wipe off all the stickers and writing on the windshield (goo be gone works well)
4/ Some basic tools (change a battery, tighten wheels ect...)
5/ Oil and water (just to top any thing off if its low)

**** make sure your exporter checks to see if your car has a locking gas cap, if it does MAKE sure the key for it is there, one poor guys car had one and he could not get gas for it to get it out of the port ****

OK so that went well, that day I dropped it off at the inspection center. they had a good look over the car and as I thought all the glass and the tail lights where DOT and good to go. the only problem was the head light's where not DOT and they where not a sealed beam type light ($14 each) which I thought they where (never owned a FD) but no biggie.
To make it legit you have to get a set of CAD/US glass housings as a replacment and swap them over and thats it. the glass can be found at any Mazda dealer for $160 a side or you can find a used set for around a $100 for both sides (thanks Forcefed).
I will get them in and let you guys know how it goes.

cheers...... M-SPEC

blown7 02-24-07 11:10 AM

M-SPEC did you ever join up on bcrotary. Yes Marko is a great guy, he is a family friend of mine. I should be there later this year to hit the dyno to tune the p-port i'm building.

M-SPEC 02-24-07 04:23 PM

yup, I joined up, have not had a chance to post yet... been a long week, but it looks like a great site the the local RX7's
ya Marko and Jon seem like nice guys who know their way around a RX7.... ohhh man do they have some nice projects going on over there, they just about got my Brabus Merc on the dyno but would of been a crime for me because I had no video camera there lol
next time for sure.

donz 02-24-07 11:20 PM

that is pretty cool stuff. Do you have a time limit as to when you have to get the car inspected? If headlights are all you needed that seems like a good deal.

M-SPEC 02-26-07 04:58 PM

there is no real time limit , but ICBC and the ministry of transport love to make up new rules .... so i try to get them certified as soon as they get here.

I also found out you have to HAVE day time running lights too.. still not bad a for 30$

Ill let you know if there is any else needed

ACTION RT 03-05-07 03:38 PM

Sent you a Pm M-SPEC.

New pics??? hows it driving?

RT

M-SPEC 03-05-07 04:09 PM

Thanks for the PM,
Well things are getting tough for importing cars, there is a real push by transport Canada to change the import rule to 25+ year old cars, if they have their way the doors could be closed in as little as 2-3 months. this means if you have one on the way and the rule changes your car will have to go back to Japan or be destroyed, no exceptions.
I have to say this really blows for bus change.

I thought some thing like this would happen (its been a rumour for a while) so I had to jump on this RX7 while I could. The VIN should finally be at the shop today and I should be picking it up on tues or wed. My first impression of the car was holy*&^#^&% this thing is sweet, and it turned out to be just as nice mechanically and to drive as well. The Teins where in good shape with no leaks or rust, I also found out the front bumper is a JUN bumper witch made me very happy ... I love JUN stuff. the motor was nice and strong and pulled very well (lit them up at 80K) witch surprised me a bit lol so I started looking for other mods my exporter might of missed, besides the Kakimoto I also found a high flow cat and a huge downpipe ... so that was cool a few less parts i have to buy. Ill get some good pics of it when I pick her up.

cheers ......M-SPEC

Crymson 03-05-07 05:06 PM

There is a guy on beyond.ca already trying to ditch his RHD FD for 2k less than he paid for it, after OOP. He can't have had it for more than a month. Hope it's not because of a shite car.

I can't imagine it being a pristine car if he willing to take a loss on it. Of course he could be lying about how much he paid for it.

Football22 03-05-07 09:51 PM

I sure hope they keep that 25 year off until I get my car in May. Thats going to be brutal if they send it back.

L-Spec 03-05-07 10:53 PM

Right on, nice car. I have one on the way as well, but I paid good money for it. I wanted it completely stock and mechanically perfect. A lot of people have jumped on me already saying that the RHD RX-7 is worthless compared to a LHD. Honestly, I couldn't care less. In fact, I don't care if the car was RHD or LHD. I was in search for one in the US for a while now (I'm going for a wedding in June and was going to bring one up on the way), but selection was kind of limited. The cars were either very pricey, or else the engine bay housed a family of rodents. I didn't need a garaged vehicle with a $25000 price tag or a rodent powered RX-7, so I took a look at some RHD cars. Money wasn't an issue either, I was more than happy to spend a good amount of money if I felt the car was worth it. Ultimately, it will be my track car, and I don't have any intentions of selling it, so worth means almost nothing to me as long as I can kick the shit out of cars at the autox.

As for the law changes, I'm not too worried about that either. So what if they change it? A couple years after that, the same cars will be available again, and probably at a lower price, and they will still be beating out rusted pieces of shits in North America. In 2018, I'd still pick a 1992 FD over a 1992 Pontiac Sunbird any day.. or a 2005 Cobalt for that matter.

Again, awesome car. What are your plans with it?

ACTION RT 03-06-07 10:16 AM

The one on beyond.ca, looks pretty dam rough..

Its been painted at least 3 times, engine bay is red, has some yellow overspray on the rad support, and now it is silver.

Did you take a look at the wiring job inside? If someone was satifisied with there job doing that crap.. how do you think they treated the rest of the car.

Where did you get yours from FOOTBALL22 and LSPEC?

Im on a couple mailing lists and browse a bunch of importers sites daily..
They never seem to update there stock for at least a week.

I'm still looking for the right one.
