I was considering heading out there, but I'm on shitty all season tires and didn't feel like swapping to the stock wheels and Sumi's. Lazy much? I plan to hit it once after I order the Hankooks.

Nice time, I'm impressed, but it doesn't count for shit till we see the slip.

Aaron Cake 07-18-09 10:12 AM

I may have shown up if there was more then 1 hour of notice.

C_hatfield 07-19-09 11:39 AM

someone should set somehitng like that up, i would like to go even tho i dont have an rx-7 and more i would still like to see it

orion84gsl 07-19-09 06:43 PM

Good thing I didn't go. Roasted my 4 month old clutch today at an autocross. I can just imagine the damage 5K RPM drag launches would have done.

Aaron Cake 07-20-09 02:29 PM

I would have been at the autocross, but the person I was supposed to go with wussed out. :)

orion84gsl 07-20-09 09:49 PM

Should have came anyway. The course was a really well setup one, very fast and was tons of fun. Luckily the clutch held out until halfway through my final timed run, so I got the day out of it. The guy with the red Viper slid out and went over a curb, giving him a flat tire and one hell of a scare, but otherwise came out of it fine.

Terrh 07-21-09 04:13 PM

I should see if i could break into the 12's on my DD TII.

I'd be down for going some other time - maybe a friday or saturday night!

but yeah, more than an hour of notice. Especially since I'm 2 hours away from st. t.

I needed a safety net in case something broke. This would be the first time I had autocrossed the RX-7 so I'm a bit nervous (as everyone is their first time). Without a potential ride home, I didn't want to risk it even though everything would probably be fine.

get CAA. its like $90 a year for the gold version and that gets you towed like 200km. I've never had to use it at an autocross (IMO autcrossing is easy on everything but tires) but it's come in handy so many times I can't countl.

Aaron Cake 07-22-09 10:58 AM

I've only needed a tow once in the last 9 years when my transmission blew up this spring. That would have been nearly $1000 in wasted CAA membership. I'd rather just pay for a tow if needed and save the $800. My stuff tends not to break, but a 1st autocross with a car is still a bit of a rite of passage.

Realistically speaking, the drag strip is far more abusive then an autocross.

orion84gsl 07-22-09 01:49 PM

Definitely is. Consider the fact that it's full throttle for the whole run on top of a hard launch. At an autocross you launch at a lower RPM and your on and off the throttle, very rarely at full throttle for more than a couple seconds, depending on the course. It's alot harder on suspension, brakes and tires. One good course can really tear up the shoulders of a tire. It's helpful to have an extra set to change to at the track, so your not destroying your street tires.

immanuel__7 07-22-09 02:11 PM

ok im think im going back this Friday night 24th of July. i want to hit the 13 second mark before i install my MS.
so this time il take out my spare tire and 20LB of spare tools from the bins and bring my tire gauge with me so i can drop my pressures to 17psi ish and i should be able to get 13.90 if all works out.

(sry for the short notice last time :D)

immanuel__7 07-23-09 10:55 PM

im still heading out there on Friday night i should be there by 8pm ish hope to see som rx7 guys there!!

Aaron Cake 07-24-09 08:45 AM

I would love to drop by tonight...I might be able to, might not be able to. If I do drop by I don't know if I will run the car.

FC3Sdrift 07-24-09 12:14 PM

well still ran a 14.02 on the 1/4. Aaron Cake showed up and a mysterious first gen who we did not have much time to talk to. we still dont know if he is on here or what his name is.. o well

Aaron Cake 07-25-09 08:24 AM

Yeah, I wonder who the 1st gen owner was. I don't know if we even introduced ourselves.

Anyone who a guy with an immaculate black 1st gen, nice set of thick spoked wheels with silver rims, stock port engine, Holley carb and RB exhaust?
