85rotarypower 07-13-12 09:10 PM

I happened to meet up with a fellow 1st gen owner yesterday in Owen Sound that attended this event last year. Has a blue 85 gs and an 84 gsl. He said he cant make it this year unfortunately but also said its a lot of fun, so I cant wait. Really looking forward to this.

Thought I would mention that its highly unlikely I will have a passenger at this point.

Bass 07-13-12 11:46 PM

That's good to hear. Thanks for passing that on 85rotarypower.

Just to give a heads up to people, I've been asked if it's possible to camp at my place. There's plenty of room in the backyard. So, if you want to get the outdoor experience to dream about all things rotary, you are more than welcome to camp out.

While I have a number of beds available, we have a rather large and seemingly growing list of participants this year. With this in mind, people are encouraged to please bring an air mattress if you have one. That way, everyone can have a restful sleep. Also, everyone is asked to bring your own bedding (pillow and sheets) etc, as well as a camera (great views throughout the tours) and an FRS (hand held radio/walkie-talkie). The FRS is a great way to encourage communication/conversation during the actual cruise.

A week before the BCM, I will send out a PM to everyone who has registered with my cell phone number, home address, fuel stop distances and a reminder of what to bring.

Saturday morning, there will be a mandatory driver's meeting. You are asked to arrive with a near-full tank of fuel as possible when you arrive at my place. Your last stop for fuel of all grades will be in Hanover (just 12 minutes south of my place). Everyone is expected to arrive in a vehicle that is mechanically sound and capable of holding a full tank of fuel. Depending on your vehicle's particular mileage, expect to use about a tank of fuel each day of the cruise.

And one final request, when you arrive in Chesley please adhere to the speed limit of 50kms as well as a relaxed and quiet driving style. We all need to do our best to keep my neighbours happy and not draw any unwelcome attention. ;)
While on the cruise, we will be strictly adhering to speed limits in towns, villages and all residential areas. There will be opportunities for spirited driving in a safe manner well away from pedestrians and other drivers.

Are there also any notable areas with significant speedbumps or rough patches? (basically anything that may give lowered cars trouble)

The routes that we use are in very good shape. We are just starting our process of driving over every kilometer of our routes to ensure that they are still in great shape.

Bass 07-16-12 11:07 AM

Chef Smaxted, along with the rest of the GBR, will be offereing the following menu:

Friday Night:
Hot shaved roast beef sandwich, on a fresh kaiser, sauced and covered in sauteed onions and mushrooms in a balsamic reduction.
Homemade potato salad and homemade southern coleslaw

Saturday Breakfast:
Breakfast tortilias consisting of eggs, spicy sausage, onions, peppers, mushrooms and shredded cheddar wrapped in a soft tortillia. Served with homefries, coffee and juice.

Saturday Supper:
Local Ontario steak, grilled to perfection, accompanied with a baked potato, caeser salad/taco salad.

Sunday Breakfast:
Pancakes, sausage, assortment of prepared fruits, coffee and juice.

But first, I need to change my oil. Only problem is, I need an engine installed.

Casual_John 07-20-12 11:58 AM

IAN 07-20-12 04:53 PM

Awesome picture John...... Garage looks huge!

Not bringing either of my rotaries. 10AE still to put together after paint and 1989 Turbo II blew suspension at Sigma and is back ordered for months for repairs in California!! Either way gonna be a fun weekend. See you all in one week..

Bass 07-20-12 06:35 PM

Just one week to go! I'm out shopping for some more door prizes. I'll be sending out a PM to all those who have registered tomorrow when I get back home to my computer.

Double_J 07-23-12 03:43 PM

Out of all you rotorheads are any of you familiar enough with a datalogit to show me the basics? I've been curious so I ordered one, and I hope it will arrive soon. If so whose up for sharing some brain power.

I'm not looking for anyone to tune the car just trying to see how all the pieces fit together. I can bring a laptop with me if need be.
