Project: 300hp, 30+mpg

Heyyy yooou guys! Most of you don't know me so I'll get to it. I'm drew, I just picked up my first rx7 in Feb. It's a 1990 n/a. It is white with a black hatch and whale tail, should go nicely with a black aluminum hood I'll be getting soon. All resting on convert. BBS wheels. Current I guess modifications in progress: 4 piston caliper conversion, picking up the other two BBS rims I need and possibly the motor for mock up.
Ohhhh yeahhh the motor, I didn't tell you... It's a Ford 3.7L 305hp V6, you know the one in the Mustang? Yeahhh I've been doing a lot of research as far as dimentions are concerned and it looks VERY promising. I have a few secret bits of information I will make available after I acquire the rest of the parts I need as I don't want the price of them skyrocket before I can acquire the rest. Transmission, ecu, harnesses, cluster and pedal sensors etc. I do have picturea, I promise, I just have a 21mp camera and limited data. They will be uploaded when I get home. Thanks for reading -Drew

OK, I'm in...at least till the first set of pics.

If 30mpg is the goal, are you changing the diff?

Most likely going with the Ford solid 8.8.

Moved the 2 BBS wheels to the rear, going to Kissimmee to buy two more after work.Attachment 626695
Single piston calipers removed and awaiting the 4 piston replacements that should come in at around 7pm.Attachment 626696
This was a pleasant surprise, aluminum hubs, OEM looks like.

I plan on turbocharging it after about 20k mi. I'm a little worried I won't be able to find a qualified dyno shop that can reflash a new ecu that has variable valve timing. I don't want some douche to just dump fuel when the turbo kicks in and advance the timing a little. Well it's 5:50am EST and I got to get ready for work, on the bright side I may be scoring a motor for $750, woot!

By going off your posts I think you need to re think most your build and take it one step at a time.

What year mustang does that v6 come out of?

30mpgfc 04-18-15 06:18 PM

2011-13 mustang 2012 f150 and 2013+ explorer& edge

3.7l specs:
length (main pully to tranny bell):24"
width : 31" (29" for 3.5turbo)
Height (oil pan to top of intake) 29"
Oil pan dimension: from the bottom of the front of block it drops 1" for about 1' then drops additional 5-6 for oil pickup(6" long). The ford f150 engine bay rails are exactly same width as the rx7(give or take ¼")
Edit: all measurements are approximate based on my boss' 2012 F-150

Items required: either f150 or mustang v6. F150 is cheaper with input/output oil feeds located @ pump for easy turbo & oil cooler application, plus f150 engine costs less usually.
2011-13 ford muatand ecu & engine harness unless you go for a different EMS but I'm not sure any can program in Ford's variable cam timing.
Not 100% sure but probably throttle pedal actuator, w/e it's called. I think it's drive by wire.
I'm going with a fox 8.8 solid axle because I don't think the na diff can handle the torque.
Turbocharged @6psi a guy got 425hp, look for it on YouTube. 10psi w/ 80% intercooler efficiency calculates to about 480
