maybe excessive egts melted it? maybe time just let it rattle loose allowing exhaust gasses to get behind it.. maybe i had some wonky post detonation and blew it out in one throw.. no idea..

but ill be on it soon enough. in the mean time, enjoy some classy shots

Well, thankfully it didn't destroy your turbine. Nice work you've done there. Care to share any info on the vinyl work you did?

RotaryEvolution 07-03-12 11:33 PM

the only other time i saw a sleeve come loose it was due to a poor repin on the sleeve which was semi loose when the engine went back together but the pins can wear over time as the sleeves do not actually press against anything and rely on the pins to keep tension on them.

wish there was a way to remove the sleeves without tearing the engine apart but there is no reasonable way to do it.

the sleeves are identical to cosmo 13B-RE sleeves, a D shape. with it obstructing airflow it will be harsh on that particular rotor retaining all that heat.

let me know if you want that overhaul kit and some turbo sleeves or another cosmo sleeve.

oh, and there is no more Karack.. :)

stevensimon 07-04-12 11:57 AM

Yeah i think we should go with the turbo sleeves and goopy seals like we discussed. Ill give you a buzz when i get this thing out and torn down.

Are you porting the engine as well during the rebuild?

scrapp 11-27-12 04:07 PM

oh wow... Ive seen your car turn blue... but never realized WHAT it was. Nice. Ill follow.

nah. maybe a clean up if it needs it but i like stock ports. i already make more than enough power for what i want to do.

The few of you who have found 3 rotors.. very proud of yall. You have become something that is unattainable... No idea where to find a 3 rotor anymore.

stevensimon 11-28-12 03:32 PM

its a really great engine but tbh it was a lot of money for what really just boils down to cool factor. i wanted this engine for a very simple reason; the sound. after i got it going however, i wanted to do something else and now im really looking forward and hoping to be able to build a 4 rotor this summer. i have no reason to, dont even have a chassis or even an idea for what id put it in. im almost to the point where id rather work on things than drive them.. as crazy as it sounds, track is frustrating and high stress whereas the garage is just music, problem solving and euphoria. although, at the track people want to talk and hang out and eat food. nobody ever stops by the garage to do these things, and people that drive seem to garner egos and respect from random facebook followers.

That entire post is nothing but truth. You're not alone with how you feel. Except for the engine opinion. Im still searching for a 3 rotor/TII drivetrain. :)

stevensimon 11-30-12 12:34 AM

dont get me wrong, i love the 3 rotor and it brings a smile with just a quick drive through the mountains or even around the block.

here is an engine for you to buy

i still dont get the science of getting housings polished even after trying.

stevensimon 12-17-12 02:13 PM

me neither. its just paint and purely asthetic

RotaryEvolution 12-17-12 04:37 PM

yep, just a very chrome like paint that i use sometimes. polished aluminum is a royal pain to maintain.

2RotorSpeed 12-18-12 08:06 AM

Looks awesome, maybe mine will look that good one day

stevensimon 12-18-12 01:51 PM

i dunno man. i think your stuff already looks better than mine.
either way. ill see you in long beach 2014 ;)

Haha, I'm going to compete in a full PRO AM championship in 2013, but doubt I'll get a licence to compete in FD for 2014

Maybe I'll come out to watch Long Beach anyways, never been to Cali before.

stevensimon 12-20-12 12:47 PM

long beach is awesome. i think its way better than irwindale. do well in pro am this year, get a lic. drive in long beach. go home broke.

then i felt bad so decided to make them feel a little bit better by making them taller

only thing left that i need is a vband clamp. i broke mine. the nut seized on the bolt for some reason. the tee part of the bolt spun out of place and then after trying to be really gentle and slow and back the nut off.. it broke anyway. stupid chinese garbage.

also tried to take video of it humming along but stupid camera died as soon as i pushed record so that will have to wait till this weekend i guess.

how did you get the crazy steering angle. just from the balljoints and tie rod ends? and where did you get the tie rod ends

stevensimon 12-21-12 10:17 AM

ball joints, tie rod ends and knuckles.

inner tie rods are cut down
outer are mazdatrix units. just get the angle kit but ask for the longer bumpstop hex threaded pieces then trim to fit.

insanerxpower 12-22-12 12:23 AM

ah ok. how much did you add to the ball joints and how far on the knuckle did you drill the new hole? and i trim the inner tie rod to fit the outer?
