My Goopy, To4r, Ps1000 final build

12 Attachment(s)
Well, after years of halfassing my car, it was finally time to start over and do it right. I stripped my 88 SE after the wiring done by T&R melted my whole main harness and fuse block.
In the mean time I picked up a 89 GXL and daily drove the car till I was ready to swap. I cleaned And painted every suspension bit from my SE black and install red poly bushings.
Once everything was painted, I pulled the motor in the GXL , then it was time to drop the subframe and all the front suspension, I also pulled the fenders and bumper. I stripped the engine bay, power washed, primed, sanded, and had my buddies dad 2 stage the white bay black. Then with the fenders removed I primed and undercoated the wheel wells and under the car.
Once the bay dried it was on, all front suspension was put back in, I bought new oem ball joints and tie rods everything.. I also swapped my mazdatrix adjustable swaybar links out for oem S4 ones with poly bushing due to the noise and maintenance that has to be done
Now that the car stands on its own feet time to put my freshly built Goopy motor into its fresh new home. Which btw was not the easiest feat, my buddies and I usually have the motors in and out in about 20min, but this time I couldn't afford to scratch my new paint, so very painfully it took us about an hour to get it bolted in.
Anyway here some pix of my progress...

I'm running FFE crank trigger kit and fuel rails, along with ID1000 primaries and ID2000 secondaries. The rails are feed parallel with -8an SS lines that are Y'd from a -10 line I have a aeromotive a1000 pump I'm unsure I'm gonna use I might run 2 044's Intank but I'm still undecided.
Ignition I am using aem ign-1a smart coils and I will be making my own msd wires provided by C. Ludwig who has excellent service he also remade my hacked up haltech harness and provided me a PnP harness for the coils. The radiator is a Godspeed with a flexalite black magic fan which is replacing my beatup koyo and fiero fan. Intercooler is from an Isuzu NPR and has always givin me low aits.
Here some more pix...

Had to get creative make my own mount for the coils, ran some fuel line... I also laid all my harness In the bay ... the inside of the car is a disaster.. But yeah this is the last few months of work mostly after work and on the days off I'm allowed to play with the car heres a pic of what I do during the day.. all my tools are at work so this entire carand the other has been stripped and put together completely by hand all I have at home is a 100 piece craftsman set

Well spent most of today cleaning up little odds and ends, got my wires from Ludwig. Spent a bit making my wires I think they came out well.

SirCygnus 10-13-12 06:58 PM

where did you get the plug wires from?

JWteknix 10-14-12 05:28 AM

Got the plug wires from Ludwig. Hope to get a bunch done before football today

JWteknix 10-14-12 07:27 PM

decided to run and 044 intank set up anyone know any thing about the Jay racing pro series 044, supposedly it flows 10% more and uses less amps?

MaczPayne 10-15-12 02:21 PM

I have the Jay racing 044, I ran it with no issues until I seized it by clamping down on it too tight :(. I have another one sitting on the shelf for my next build.

I didn't measure the flow or current so I don't have any conclusions as to whether it performs better than a regular 044. I did get it cheaper than a regular 044 though.

JWteknix 10-15-12 03:08 PM

Yeah I just bought the regular one from them 10 bux more but I feel more comfortable with out the mixed reviews

JWteknix 10-17-12 07:06 AM

In an attempt to finish up the rear suspension I bought some oem rear camber links to replace the shity blown out ones. I also need a right rear caliper, and an outer axle boot to finish it all up. then I think I'm completely fucked on my axles, the dust caps on the back of the flang wore thru and they don't make replacements so Im gonna see if the ones on my NA axles are interchangeable, if not I'll be the asshole who silicones my axles to my diff lol.
Today I have off, I'll get some little things done, should be getting my 044 and fittings today so I can play with making my tank top.

JWteknix 10-18-12 04:22 PM

Got my injector clips all sorted out so I checked all my fittings tightened them and installed my UIM, ran my throttle cable, modified my brake booster line, ran some vacuum lines and a bunch of other small things also took a couple of pix of my interior. I ordered some new skinny wheel locks so I can put my wheels on and finish installing my bumper and fenders. Also plan on ordering a mac 3 port boost control solenoid and bracket from Ludwigs website, I plan on controlling boost with the haltech instead of using my profecB type 2 which is for sale if anyone's interested. I just needed to get some work done before this gay hurricane ruins the rest of the week. I have a week vacation in a couple weeks I hope to get a lot of the car done, its almost there just a bunch of small things left I pretty much have already set up

JWteknix 10-28-12 09:43 AM

Ordered my boost control solenoid and braket engine bays almost done gonna have to drop the rear soon

87 t-66 10-28-12 01:39 PM

nice build. i would suggest moving the O2 sensor further back from the turbo to increase its longevity.

JWteknix 10-28-12 04:41 PM

Thanks yeah when I redo the exhaust I'll be having a better DP made up

JWteknix 10-31-12 11:41 AM

Being this hurricane let up I figured I'd get a little work done.
Installed and tightened my cold side IC pipe all t bolt clamps, and my strut bar. Resealed and mocked up my premix reservoir for my RA adaptor just need to mount it and get some -4 braided line to run. I ordered my boost controller solenoid so I mocked up my lines need to use the extra -4 line to run the waste gate the hose the one I have on there isn't long enough to reach where the solenoid will be mounted. Ran my oil vent line and did some eBay shopping for a catch can. I also tightened down my DP and installed the Godspeed exhaust housing heat shield I bought a while ago which can out really nice. To end today FedEx is up and running so I'm waiting to receive my lug nuts so I can put my nice wheels on and finish bolting down my fenders and bumper. also might be picking up my friends sno performance water meth kit

JWteknix 11-01-12 08:57 AM

3 Attachment(s)
Got my fronts on today, also finished bolting down the fenders and bumper. They have 245 40 18 contis on them. I run tokito blues and intrax springs all around. I had to roll the shit out of the fenders, and there's like a mm between the sturt and the wheel, no rubbing. I know my rotors are on backwards when I took it all apart they got swapped..
here some pix of my dirty ass whip

JWteknix 11-04-12 06:42 PM

Put my pump top on today with new ss hex head bolts. Did a bunch misc stuff, should have my boost control valve this week . Need to order a catch can and -4 line. Will do wiring next week I have off hoping to get this thing moving soon. Also trying to find a new base map for my new mods..

13bdarren 11-07-12 01:02 PM

I am thinking of seeing goopy for my next build. I have all ready talked to Jonathan. I am following your thread closely. Keep up the good work.

JWteknix 11-08-12 05:10 AM

Thanks man, Jonathan set me up well for my first build resurfaced housings, 2mm oversized seals, solid corners and his Coolant Orings. I clearanced everything really tight and got excellent compression #s. the motor is largely ported and has appx 2k miles on it.
I got my boost control solenoid and bracket and ordered an oil catch can and -4 braided line for the wastegate and external 2 stroke reservoir

JWteknix 11-08-12 04:59 PM

Here's a pick of my MAC boost solenoid and bracket I got from Ludwig

JWteknix 11-11-12 06:20 AM

Got a free set of rays 370z rear wheels they're 19x10 +30 gonna see if I can get them to fit on the back.. I just ordered energy suspension bump-stop #9.9101 for a front diff pinion snubber.. also found a Mazdaspeed oil fill cap I had got while working at Mazda It doesn't fit our fill tube but Im gonna see if I can mod the catch can I have coming to use it as a top. I also got my braided line so I'll set up the wastegate- boost solenoid and my 2 stroke tank. It's gonna be warm this week I have vacation I'm gonna see if I can damn near finish this hog...I Got a 300 dollar order to place with Mazdatrix then that's it I can start the rear I'd really like to finish the whole front first before taking more shit apart

JWteknix 11-11-12 01:34 PM

2 stroke reservoir mounted and hose ran. Boost control solenoid mounted and lines ran. Also ran wires for the fuel pump and ignition. Disconnected coils so I don't fry them when I plug in the ecu... I'll be finishing the wiring soon then getting the rear ready

freddyrx3 11-11-12 02:35 PM

Your build is coming out really nice man. Can't wait to see it cruising around NJ.

Thanks man means a lot I can't wait myself to be driving it..got a good amount done today soldered and shrink wrapped a bunch of wires. I'm really taking my time wiring bc I want it as clean as possible I dont want a giant shit nest of wires any where like my other cars here's some pix from today I really just have the gauges left to wire in..

JWteknix 11-14-12 09:13 AM

Today's missions catch can did some work I need the take it to a machine shop and see if they can get this cap to thread in to the top, then I'll plug the red fitting and drill and add the bulk head fitting this can is made of super thick aluminum pretty surprised its from eBay. I'm gonna also install my battery and negative cable, ecu, and check radio fitment more to come...later as once the battery is installed I can do the rest of my wiring and checks

JWteknix 11-14-12 09:14 AM

Maybe I leave the red fitting and runn another line to the other nipple on the fill neck..

JWteknix 11-14-12 12:14 PM

Today,
I got the wide band working, the oil pressure gauge wired, almost wired the coolant gauge. Spent alot of time checking wires for power and what.not...Cranked the engine for shits and giggles sounds strong
I need the find the power wire to the fuel pump on the stock harness so I can finish wiring it up. I also need a base map so I can eventually start this thing. In the mean time the coolant gauge needs wiring, boost gauge needs mounting, I need to make a 2 switch panel, for where the AAS switches used to be, for my line lock and turbo timer kill switch. The 2step is set up just have to figure out which of my 3 wires is a 5v source.. the rears gotta come down I'll finish priming and undercoating, the fuel lines will get ran and all new rear suspension goes up. Just got my poly energy suspension bumpstop for my pinion snubber

JWteknix 11-16-12 02:35 PM

2 Attachment(s)
Well finished wiring for now, all my gauges now work and are mounted. Need to setup 2 switches. Trying to figure out what my single din headunit choices are these days so I can finish up the interior.. Then the dreaded rear I'm such a procrastinator I have to doit In order to run the last section of fuel line

R-X-R 11-16-12 06:51 PM

there may be the answer to my question in this thread. but is that -6an oil feed for the turbo?

JWteknix 11-17-12 05:48 PM

-4 feed w/ restrictor -10 return

R-X-R 11-18-12 12:55 PM

ok, looking gud man. hope it will be done soon. what size restrictor do u use?

JWteknix 11-18-12 04:29 PM

Thanks man.. the restrictor I used is part of the feed flange, I purchashed it from goopy. I dont know the inlet size it was the same as the 2 peice one I got from vosko with the turbo.

JWteknix 11-18-12 04:37 PM

Today I turned the car around and dropped the whole rear plan on fixing, cleaning, painting and upgrading everything. most of its done already I have like a 300 dollar order left from Mazdatrix that i have to buy then it all should almost be done

Slammedblk7 11-18-12 04:42 PM

Looks good.

sharingan 19 11-19-12 11:21 AM

This build is an inspiration, one day I hope my car is half as stout. Unfortunately it's hard to step up to this level w/ a daily, lol.

Thanks a lot guys means a lot. This time around there were no corners cut. When they say doit once, do it right, listen.. Lol Ive also learned soo much over the years it's crazy.
When you look at the work you did when you were 16 and now at 26, your like wtf was I doing? Did I even do that? Lol
Anyway, comments, criticism, opinions keep them coming.
I know the way I attached my pictures sucks but I'm not spending 3hrs to make a post
Heres what I did today at work
Switch panel blank ill do the switches one day lol

MaliciousMD 11-22-12 06:48 PM

Subbed :icon_tup: Interested as I may end up with a similar setup. Lookin' good!

The front one at the very least...better safe than sorry.

I can really appreciate the effort you've put in to this project, it's turning out very nicely.

JWteknix 11-24-12 08:31 AM

thanks im definatly replacing the front with a comp mount and snubbing it but idk if I should replace the rears i dont think its absolutly nessisary

clokker 11-24-12 08:42 AM

Yeah, it's hard to tell.
I inspected mine when the subframe was out and they were fine visually...I don't know how you'd "test" them beyond that.
I'm also unsure what the symptoms of a bad set would be.

bumpstart 11-24-12 09:18 AM

was very tempted to get the comp mounts from mazdatrix but the postage and mess around to me killed the deal

i went for the delrin .. the units i got where OK for the diff.. but need modding a little for the subframe

getting them out has its tricks,, drill bit and a jigsaw with the long plywood blade and a chisel and hammer is the go
.. the trick is in multi drilling then cutting around the centre tube and knocking out just one half side of the bush with a chisel

the secret im sharing though is this little trick i have done with the front diff mount -

the advantages here -
bolt on /off
i maintain a rubberised connection between diff and subframe
.. i still fit the twin 2.5 exhaust and i can quickly adjust the pinion angle if i need to

http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/5001/imag0395j.jpg
oversize the hole in the plate for the vertical rod and eye end.. this will allow the rod to correct its position as you adjust the pinion angle in its arc
.. winding the nuts adjusts the pinion angle and or preload

http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/9938/imag0393u.jpg

http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/9217/imag0390p.jpg

http://img825.imageshack.us/img825/3252/imag0394bj.jpg
.. a few extra tricks ,,, grease nipples, a cross drill .. and grub screwed with m10 x 1.25 bolt

http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/585/imag0386z.jpg
the subframe stud has a 20mm OD shank at the base , theses cheap delrin bushes need a little counter sink
.. i have maintained a 1mm grease cushion .. the factory is closer to 2mm between stud and bush ID

Thanks man, as for the snubber im gonna use a poly bumpstop at the nose of the diff. After further inspection of my rear diff bushings they're torn gonna replace them with the comp ones. I dont want it too stiff due to this being a street car. I placed my Mazdatrix order yesterday, so I can move forward.. Today I finished under coating the rear, mocked up my fuel lines, and scrapped off 25yrs of grease off my tII diff. Noticed its been taken apart by the guy I bought my original tII from the chassis only had about 80k on it but he used to race it. So idk I'm just gonna do the bushings and beat it till it breaks lol.
Anyway yesterday I went with my friend to go pick up a red tII. 70k on it and the craziest parts for 3500. here a few pix it also came with a oem rebuild kit and haltech ps1000 and some many more unreal parts. This is gonna be my boys car now I have some more friendly competition gotta love Craigslist actually picked it up from Ito's cousin or nephew.
The pix are all over the place srry

Bobby M. Loo 11-25-12 12:41 PM

Love the work man. Keep it up.

It's snowing out was abled to find a garage, cleaned and paint my rear sub frame. Most of the rest of the rear is already painted and done.
Also my girl ordered me a new headunit and flying lead harness for the car. It's a new Sony MEX-BT4000P single din with bluetooth for music and hand free calls. I wanted a double din but they're too much money and I run my oil pressure under the radio.. I think it one of the better looking ones got it on sale yesterday for 130.
Also gonna spend some time organizing and making a list of what's needed for my buddy's motor, and clean up his rotors
