The rack seems to make contact with the harness hold down by the oil filler neck and I am unable to bolt the rack down. This could be an issue, lol.
we both started at the ECU end, and i think if we had gone the other way, we would not have had this problem i have pics, but it will look like a wiring harness on an engine have fun with the rest of it! |
That does make sense and is great advice! I'll give that a try as I haven't tackled that portion of the car yet. I've been getting the body sorted out and checking to see what's working and what's not. I still have to get an oil metering pump and a turbo inlet duct and clamps. I ordered some original 88 injectors and a resistor box last week and I will grab a seal kit for those as well as a few gaskets that I need. I n the mean time however, I'll try and tackle that emissions rack. If you have pictures feel free to post them up. Any little bit will help. And you're right, I did start at the ecu end. Seemed logical as I was buttoning up the interior at the time but in hind sight it may have been easier to run the engine harness first and then run it through the firewall.

I'll be... That actually worked. I pulled the harness back so that the metal loop was no longer around the section with the white and everything kind of laid down into place. Now I need to get an intercooler bracket. Realized a few days ago that the car did not come with one.. Once that's in Things will start moving in the right direction again.

Not a ton new lately honestly. Waiting on a shipment of parts to come in at the dealer. Some parts were a week out. I order some oddball stuff, lol.

Excited to see this build! My dad and I are working on light restorations to our 10AE that he's maintained pretty well since he bought it in '88! We're just looking for a bronze windshield as the current ones been cracked for over 20 years since some kids were throwing rocks around it. :/ Glad to see some people who want to keep cars like this stock!
|
Finding a windshield will be extremely tough. One of the reasons why I decided to restore this car was because the glass was good. The car will be painted anyways so I really didn't care that someone painted it black. Only going to look that much better when its done. The plan is to keep the car as stock and original as possible. I may have to bend on the exhaust as finding an original TII exhaust in good shape will be like finding a needle in a haystack. I'll only go with a Racing Beat exhaust if I cannot find an original exhaust. Best of luck with your car. If I can be of any help please let me know. Also, feel free to post your vin number in the 10AE registry I made at the top of the 2nd gen section. I've been keeping track of the 10AE's since 06.

There's a roller 10AE in Houston about 3 hours out from me. It's sold by a guy who has his own 10AE that he's modified, and the roller's been on sale for 2 years! He's selling it $500 and I'm almost certain it has the bronze glass. I asked him to send pictures, and he said he would, but hasn't so far after a few weeks, so I gave up. I'll try again soon because I want to get the glass for my dad, and it comes with a TII rear end, which I can swap into the drift FC I'm hoping to build soon!

Haven't shared too many pictures lately so I figured I would post a couple. I ordered a brand new oem shift knob/boot for the last 10AE that I restored and decided that it will go on this car once it's painted and complete. Turns out it was the last one in existence and I paid quite a bit for it from Mazda. Worth it though.
As the car sits currently awaiting parts from Mazda: Attachment 749724 Current mileage. Not terrible really: Attachment 749725 The new shift knob waiting to go on: Attachment 749726 |

Wanted to share a few things as not much is new.
Here's what I have of the original owners manual. Its mostly complete which is nice: Attachment 749701 Here's how the car sits currently. Waiting on more parts, lol: Attachment 749702 |
Great job on the build!

I have another lot of parts on the way for the car. This car has been somewhat tough to find parts for compared to my last 10AE. Perhaps some odd parts are getting tougher to find.
|
Do you have the PN for the MOMO shift knob leather handy?
|
F057-64-331 is the part number. When I bought the new one I have the Mazda dealer told me it was the last new one in the country. Perhaps there is another one out there. List price in 2010 when I bought it was $341.73. Honestly I didn't care and I bought it and a new set of 10AE floor mats as well. Those set me back $250. I still have both items sealed away waiting for this car to be completely done.

Those are some prized components.

Made some progress recently and haven't had much time to update this thread. I snapped a couple pics before bed the other night and figured that I would share them here to let everyone know that I'm still plugging away slowly. More to come!!

i think FC's are going to get really rare really fast. around here everyone expects to find everything they need in the junkyard, but we are out of cars to scrap.. |
You couldn't be more right!! Mazda has been phasing out some parts that I need and I will have to get creative in finishing this car. Parts such as the hose that runs from the rear iron to the throttle body. NLA...UGH! I want this car as original as possible. I don't want to have to cap that line off. Its a bummer really, because I feel Mazda should still support these cars as they know there is a cult following for them. These cars are getting harder and harder to find in a clean and unmolested condition and its a shame because they are great cars.

I got my TB hoses for the GTUs through Worldpac at work. They came in genuine wrappers.
|
I'll give them a shot and see what I come up with. I appreciate the lead.

Progress have been a little slow as of late as I have been parting out an RX-8 that I bought for parts for my other two 8's.
Attachment 748843 Attachment 748844 Attachment 748845 I have made some genuine progress however and I will try and get some pics after work and get them posted here on the forum. |

Finally able to spend some time on the car yesterday and got a lot wrapped up in the engine bay. Still need to order a couple things but its coming along nicely. Upper intake will go on as soon as I figure out where two connectors go. I know where one goes and the other I'm not sure. I have so research to do to figure it out. Hoping to be able to start the engine by my birthday on November 9th. That's the new goal. Took a few pics last night to share with the group:

Been putting in some hours on the car after work as of late. Made more progress last night and I feel like the engine is very close to running. I could have made it run last night, but I want everything wrapped up before I try to start it. Took a couple pics to share with everyone:
