ok when you look at the pics you can see why i was leaking compression into my coolant
also that screw that im holding i have no idea where it goes i believe it belongs to the oil pump system. i found it behind my rear main seal !!!! wtf did they drop it in there while building it !!!! i also found another stange piece of metel in a cooling jacket i will post pics of that tommorow i could use advice on the housings too i will be checking to see if they are in spec soon how does the crome look ? the only scoring on them is around the exaust ports . |
also can you name the porting on this exguast or wtf that screw is ?
could really use advice asap i have some money to throw at this but no time also its my first rebuild so i really need advice lol |
That "screw" looks like an eccentric shaft oil jet.
I wouldn't use that busted iron or that chrome flaked / gouged housing. |
The e-shaft oil jet is bigger with a hole in the center and a shallow notch in it. I don't know what that screw is. I don't recall seeing anything like that on this engine.
Hard to say about the housing... It could work if the gouges are near the exhaust and are light. However, when in doubt get a "new" part. |
The screw might be the set screw from the oil pump shaft?
|
I think its that set screw there is one missing from the oil shaft but i cant figure out how it got behind the rear main seal!!! Thats a long way from the oil shaft
|
Aaron think i should reuse housings those gouges are only on the exhaust ports the rest is clean

more bad news looks like a toast rotor !!!

last pick spark side of housing no gouging but some real heat spots !
|
so what does anyone think that hunk of metal is ? found it in a cooling jacket that gouge in the rotor means its toast correct ?

okok look at these pics tell me what you guys think ! The shape right at the break suggests a round opening, perhaps it went on a shaft? |
well it was abvios that it didnt belong in a cooling jacket and between that and the set screw i found behind the rear main seal
i have no faith in the company that built it in so cal ill call them in the morning and see if they will help me out hopefully they can see where that screw had no right or way to be where it was and that hunk of metal propably led to the overheating and destruction of this motor |

Scratching around the exhaust port is common and not really too much of an issue, as long as they aren't deep. 1MM is about the limit I would recommend. Other builders will have different opinions. As for the damaged rotor, I'd not use it. In a stock NA, sure. Flatten out the damage with a file and go nuts. But in a turbo engine, no way. Probably fine on the stock turbo, but what happens when you decide to upgrade or jack up the boost? Hot spotting around the damage. It would suck years down the road to forget about the "fixed" rotor, install a GT35R and blow that very side of the engine because edges of that damage were running red hot. Again, every builder will have a different opinion. |
That broken piece of metal looks like the thermowax cam on the throttle body.
|
more pics coming soon hopefully ill have a day off and i will be able to share soon pics of possible replacement parts as well thanks guys !
|
you guys are really going to want to read this shiz when i post it kinda hardcore
|
I think a piece of your throttle body fell into your engine somehow... Like others mentioned, there is a piece of the thermowax idle cam in there, and I think that screw was the idle/butterfly screw!
Someone effed up! |
