No offence, but I don't think your car will be quite fast enough to necessitate a trans cooler or diff cooler. Not in present form, that is.

Good synthetic gear oil and regular changes will get you further IMO

Now that you're caged, how do you think street driving with a helmet is going to work out?

I think a bolt in cage is a loose definition of what a safety cage should be, but there are always pool noodles to be had.

I don't mind bolt in roll bars, but I think that if the cage does not go through the dash as close to the A-pillar as possible, it's probably not going to live through a roll over. The wrap around the dash, in my opinion, looks a touch flimsy.

A good bolt in cage is fine... This is not a good bolt in cage. It's more for aesthetics than anything.

I really like what your doing with the car though! It looks great with the wing and the skirts.

There's a ton of debate in this realm, but I will put in what I have read and found to be true about bolt-in cages.

1) Most bolt in cages are not NHRA legal. You won't be able to show up at a track and pass regulation with that type of cage. I have read through a couple rule book chapters on the subject because i wanted a cage at first.

2)What I found was that a legal bolted in cage must have thick floor plates, that are often times welded in to the floor.

3)The cage generally needs a continuous hoop of a specific thickness, usually DOM steel. If the cage doesn't meet the thickness, diameter, and tube type; you're not legal.

4) The dash bars usually need to be straight sections that conform to the a-pillar. The wrap around bars on must JDM cages are generally not legal. They provide almost no true protection in the case of a rollover, which is what the cage needs to protect against.


Now, I am just a keyboard warrior on the subject, so take whatever I say with a big, grainy, salty margarita. I would recommend you figure out what class you are going to compete in, find out if that cage you bought is SFI approved, and go from there.

I do not care for that style because they look a bit "flimsy". A bolt in rear roll bar I think is ok. They usually mount to the frame rails and are rather sturdy. They also have the benefit of not having a thick metal bar going right past your head. The worst thing that could happen is you could, let's say, leave the track "creatively" (STYLE POINTS) and get killed by the thing that was supposed to protect you. I'm not exactly certain what color brains are, but I have heard they are greyish. Report back after your first rollover. I'm curious. ;)

Here's a good bolt in cage. It's in my car, and even though I'm trying to stick to a tight budget with my car, I paid a reasonable amount to have it done. If i'd had more cash available, of course I'd have gone for a weld in cage, but budget was a factor without compromising safety too much.

It's made to meet the regulations of 'national level' competition by the Confederation of Australian Motorsport. There's a strict set of rules to be followed to meet that.

One of those JDM cages might save a life, but the way they're made means if you roll it, it's just as likely to be the thing that seriously injures or kills you!! The front legs with all those bends will just collapse on themselves. The main hoop is way to far forward and has one too many bends too!

It's just one of things I'm a dick about because it's important if something bad happens at high speed!

Safety is #1 when it comes to tracking a car. This is why I become a real prick at work about wearing shop glasses. I wear them constantly, even when I'm in a car on a road test. I get to the shop at 8am. Put on my safety glasses. They don't come off until my shift is over at 5pm.

I know shop glasses and cages are nothing alike, but they are still safety items. You need to be safe, especially on a track.

I did feel like that forward hoop was a bit far forward, but I'm not a cage builder.

Everything I have done so far since the last update, I have installed the energy bushings, I'm currently waiting my front splitter that's being made by built 2 apex, removed almost 90% of my interior, I lowered the car about 1", tomorrow at work I'll be doing the alignment. Need to tune the carbs and hopefully the car will finally be able to see some track time.
