I still can't get over how wide your tires are... That car looks so mean!

Excellent driving as always!

Thanks!

I got my replacement windsheild wiper linkage from mazdaspeed. installed it and now I have working wipers again :)

installed the new wideband... then uninstalled the sensor because I forgot to free-air calibrate it haha.

the controller box doubles as a gauge which is nice, I didn't really like not having a AFR readout after I got rid of my gauge cluster. I moved the controller up to the glove box with the water pump controller.

free air calibrating the sensor... it gets hot :)

all calibrated. nice view from the driver's seat with the glovebox open.

Have you noticed it reading different AFR values than your previous setup?

Good question... one I'd like to know the answer of too :)

I went to drive the car to work today and.... no crank at all. Thankfully I tried to start it before Sunday morning before the autocross haha.

I'll poke at it tomorrow, I'm assuming it's just the relay I added to the starter circuit to boost the signal to the starter which was hanging out in the rain at the last event... if not it might have a bad clutch switch or something else along the way. it'll be easy enough to bypass everything if I need to.

eage8 06-02-17 05:15 PM

So, I traced back the starting problem to a bad relay as expected.

replaced the whole starter booster relay with a weather proof relay with adheasive lined heat shrink crimps so it should last a whole lot longer.

I also drove around a bit today. AFRs appear to be quite a bit richer. probably an entire point which makes sense. it looks like my higher end breakup was due to overly rich mixtures. it was richer than 9:1 according to my new wideband... leaned it out and it's much better.

I also re-did my injector dead times (after seeing the changes from the new wideband) with the actual Injector dynamics info:
Megasquirt : Injector Dynamics Support

So I'll have to re-do my fuel tables a bit again, but the car should run better

eage8 06-05-17 10:14 AM

Drove the car around a lot and cleaned up my fuel tables. My VE tables have a huge spike at 4500-5000 which is interesting. that's definitely where peak torque is :). it falls off after that, but doesn't seem too bad at doesn't really fall on it's face up to 9000 rpm which is nice.

Sunday was event #3.... and I lost to the dumb 600hp STI again by 0.1s. I had the speed to beat him on the last run, but had a "moment" and lost a lot of time. Some bad habits from rallycross are starting to show up again (tossing the car around). I definitely have stuff to work on.

The course was amazing though, lots of high speed elements.

I finally got tired of dealing with magnets that fall off (because apparently my doors are half bondo), so I put some real vinyl numbers on the car. This also helps justify the wing when I drive around on the street :P

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/r3...=w1679-h944-no

I also got my replacement EGT probes in. These are 1/4" probes (up from 3/16") and enclosed tip. Both of which should help them last longer, but respond slightly slower...

Apparently the 2-stroke oil can cause the exposed tip probes to become brittle and crack.

Coinshark 06-13-17 07:39 AM

I'm really going ham on your wing. What brand/style is it?

eage8 06-13-17 08:35 AM

It's made by a company called ciro design:
Wing | CiroDesign Racing

He gets his elements from APR, so they're legit. It's basically APR GT-1000 elements with different brackets/endplates and custom uprights made to your requirements.
GT-1000 Dual Element Adjustable Wing | APR Performance

trying out a spring change for the up coming autocross....

raising the front spring from 900# to 1100#.... rear is staying at 600#

we'll see how it feels.

Do you run 6 inch spring lengths up front?

yeah, I switched to 6" all around a while back so I can swap springs around if I need to (back to front or vise versa), and they're lighter...

my car doesn't use enough suspension travel to have to worry about spring bind.

I run 6 up front and 7 in the back.

On amazon prime day I bought the rx7 a new modular removable lightweight stereo system w/ bluetooth :) :

First impressions is it's pretty decent, hopefully it's loud enough to here over my car on the highway haha.

I also finally bit the bullet and got a new set of tires... the last set is ~3 years old and was starting to get grumpy. I'm saving them to use at a test and tune or something.

Also, my rota's are reverse mount wheels (you mount them in the machine backwards) and are a complete bear to get tires off of, changing tires really sucks and I'm glad I don't have to do it again for another 2+ years haha

Wow, more power (I assume) from a better tune, plus new Hoosiers?? Damn this thing is gonna fly. Go get 'em Mike!

LargeOrangeFont 07-14-17 09:18 PM

This thing is set on kill now! I'd run the same setup as you if I could keep a set of tires on the car for 2+years!

eage8 07-16-17 10:36 PM

The car is completely silly on fresh tires. This is the first time in a while I thought more power would have actually made a decent difference.

my last 3 runs (out of 4) were all within about a tenth, which was aggravating, I kept making different mistakes and ending up with the same time haha. but it was still good for 3rd fastest time of the day behind a really fast DSP car (multi time almost national champion :) ) and a lotus 7. 20th in PAX index out of 250+ cars.

I can't tell if the springs made the car better or worse... it's more stable, but there is definitely still a push when the tires heat up. Still need to work on that... I'm doing some things with the front suspension and I'm going to start looking into ackerman to see what's going on.

Got a new LRB undertray with slots in it to let the v-mount breath a bit better:

an out of town evo came to our even that got 3rd at nationals a few years ago. I was about a second behind him, which I'll take.

the car still doesn't have enough lateral grip in the back... I'm going to try to increase the rear camber (it's at ~-1.7* now)
