1st Turbo FC3S S4 1987

Hello people of RX7club, I have been lurking around since my first FC(1988 N/A SE) but never really touched the car because I had no money to spend on it.
Now that I do have some extra money to put down on a Project car, I didn't hesitate to jump on this 1987 TII FC3S.

(Rancho Cordova/Sacramento, CA area)
So the car cost me $1,800. $1,600 if I return his 350Z rims(lol)

Pros:
It's boosted :)
S5 tailights
Fresh white paintjob
Trust complete exhaust system from turbo all the way to the dual tips(Has a test pipe, no cat)
Re-Amemiya front coilovers with camber plates (Spring rate and height adjust-ability)
Tokiko illumina's in the rears (Only spring rate adjustable)
HKS air filter
All electrics work (Sunroof needs a little help to move)
Short Shifter
New Coilpacks
Ebay Drilled/Slotted brake rotors
Ebay BoV (lol, I need to buy one that recirculates the air back into the system)
Came with Mazdatrix engine rebuild dvd
Also bought a Haynes repair manual for it

Cons:
Rear rotor has 15 PSI compression (Needs rebuild)
Interior is burgundy (Plan on dying it black and buying some nice seats)
Original car color was red, so engine bay, underhood, and door jams are still red.
No stereo or speakers (Plan on installing a double din with a nice sound system)

My immediate plans are to get the car running asap.(My brother and I already took off most of the bullshit that's attached to the engine)
So here are my options:

1. Me and my older bro can watch the Mazdatrix rebuild DVD like 50 times then attempt the task(lol).
Only my brother has had experience rebuilding engines, but he's only rebuilt Honda engines before.
2. Send the 13BT core over to the young boy at Rotary Resurrection, Reasonable price if my rotors/housings are good.
3. Find a forum member willing to rebuild it for me, or help me with the rebuild. (Rancho Cordova, California)
4. Swap another engine in, rotary or not. (Probably not guna do this, way too much work lol)

Oh and is this the stock turbo? MY brother said it's like 3X bigger than his Audi 1.8T turbo lol, probably is stock though.

Yes that is the stock turbo.

Good luck with your build!

Just wondering $1,600-$1,800 a good price for what I have here?
Also on the rebuild bit, what would you guys recommend of the options listed?

Thanks MrGoodnight :)

looks like a decent buy. I think if you put that much into getting it running, then you should have a really solid runner. I definitely see enough to keep you busy until you get it running though, so get crackin'! :)

oh and it is my opinion that those wheels don't even look good on a 350Z, so unless you really like them, get your $200. :)

RicerJ 04-24-13 02:29 AM

you bought that from nick (smogsux) huh?

S4 Vert 04-24-13 03:49 AM

Congratulations on your FC turbo purchase. Looking forward to your build progress.

Agrovain 04-24-13 03:57 AM

It's the same car I think, but I got the car from some one who bought it from Nick(Yuba City). He said he drove it for like a week before the rear rotor blew, it also had a ton of vacuum lines and ground wires that were wired/ran incorrectly. Is this the car? I wish I could view it I need 20 posts lmfao

RicerJ 04-24-13 10:57 AM

you have 20 posts now lol but i know a friend who bought nick's last fc and are sorting out a few things last i heard over a year later

I wish I swooped this up!!

Pretty good deal. I think the tires are fresh too, so if you like the Z wheels I'd keep em for the $200 he'd give you back. I personally like the Z wheels, since they don't stand out, but are clean and not insanely heavy. Don't want any attention from the cops with that test pipe ;)
The engine popped due to the wastegate line coming off, so when you rebuild it make sure all those vacuum lines are tight!

EDIT: I know you have this car, Chobiwan has my beautiful 10AE that I wish I still had :(, and some loser in Socal has/had my other 10AE

Yeah i'm guna redo the entire vacuum system, no offense but this car was very poorly put back together after your rebuild from Lucky 7 :(

I agree with what seems to be the general consensus that it's a good buy. I'd spend a morning every weekend or two looking at the pick-a-part syle wrecking yards around there to hunt down things you need after you spend some time looking prodding around under the hood but it looks like a rad deal for what you paid. Does it already have a fuel cut defender already?

w0ppe 05-06-13 11:00 PM

That's a nice start of things. Are you in Norcal?

Agrovain 05-09-13 01:50 AM

Yeah I think the Rtek 1.8 has a fuel cut, right?
And I'm located up in Rancho Cordova/Sacramento area

And the engine has been out since May 5th, still need to find out how i'm guna get it rebuilt, any recommendations on local shops?

I do believe it's supposed to and so you're good. As has been said before. Proceed carefully once you get her running again but with a FCD you have a bit less to worry about. Have fun!

S4 Vert 05-10-13 01:14 AM

I would recommend Lucky 7 Racing in Duarte California, have them do a nice street port. It will be more then worth to have a street port done during your rebuild .

w0ppe 05-10-13 02:02 AM

Ooo engine's out. Time for Q-tips and degreaser!! Local shoppes wise, +1 for lucky7. Never had an engine built there myself but I've heard good things. Most everyone else isn't really local so...
We're having a get together at my place this Saturday; it's mainly like a mechanic's day; we're tearing down my motor and I guess sort of fixing everyone else's car if they come by. BBQ as well.

erknee916 05-10-13 03:26 AM

Nice! Are you from the sac area? Let me know how you do the double din install. I installed one of pioneers 2013 model. FHX700BT I think is the model. But I have 2 gaps on the side and it was a byatch to put in using the stock brackets.

Agrovain 05-13-13 08:06 PM

So we dropped off the 13B at Evil Genius Racing in West Sacramento, hopefully the boys can make this lil baby run :)

PS: We used a Mexican cherry picker to pull the engine(green bar we found with rope:icon_tdow) then put it in the trunk of my Miata, was a perfect fit(kinda). :)

Yeah if the guys at the shop offer porting, it looks like it's already been ported or at least polished by Lucky 7 in LA.

S4 Vert 05-15-13 03:59 PM

Ah, if Lucky 7 already touched it more then likely it has been street ported. They do things right the first time every time.

rexy91 05-16-13 01:15 PM

I'm also in the sacramento area. If you need anything let me know. I got some very nice used 2pc 2mm apex seals for sale.

Customisbetter 05-16-13 01:28 PM

God I love that photo of a blown 13b in the trunk of a miata.:lol:

Did you rebuild your engine yourself? I think i'm going to get my engine back from the Evil Genius Racing shop, I've heard bad things about them and I don't want to risk it :(

If I attempt to rebuild it maybe you can guide me a bit? :)
