Ultima Pacific Avatar conversion is alive.

Hi, I thought it was time to start to post some pics about the ultima car that I am restoring. An original pacific avatar car, it was done by MAriah motor sports and had a lot of extras. Zack in northern cal has an oriinal car (56K NO WAY) but this PA has 7k ish total original miles. Still, after reading about Zack's enthusiasm I have to dedicate this retoration to Zack's family's health and happiness, Cheers, cliff

Hope the link works as I do not know how to post pics yet. I have a bunch more.

ultima 1 12-01-07 11:01 PM

Well here are some more pics.

http://us.f525.mail.yahoo.com/ym/Sho...ox=CAR%20STUFF

I vowed to replace those hideous rims asap, but they are so ugly and yell retro so loud I may restore them and then decide.

diabolical1 12-01-07 11:07 PM

link doesn't work. really would like to see this Avatar ...

fbatman 12-01-07 11:10 PM

You just gave us links that direct to the Yahoo Mail account, which it says that your session is expired.

ultima 1 12-01-07 11:13 PM

Here is the original post by Mariah motor sports, who customized the car.

http://www.mariahmotorsports.com/project_ultima.htm

I contacted Jim Kennedy by phone and he was excited about a 13b s5 turbo upgrade.
Zack was hoping we could keep it an original 12aT as it was designed. I contacted a bunch of the 20b forum guys and they were cautious.

In the mean time, I am getting a stock 12a smogged by Nick at Rotary engineering, here in SoCal and after california registration, will pursue these options on these boards.

Thanks to the guys who have been helping, the s5 tII conversion guys and 20b guys who have posted, they know who they are. :)

ultima 1 12-01-07 11:15 PM

sorry, I will have time to post pics late sunday, might need some directions I will private post you guys, cliff

alrighty, I'm not trying to offend you, but....have you ever linked a picture before? perhaps you should upload your pictures to a picture storage site, like photobucket.com, they even give you the html tags you need, you can't link directly from your computer, and you can't link directly from E-mail accounts.

Jeezus 12-02-07 01:26 AM

If you want, email them to me and I can post them in the forums.

Jeezusrx7@yahoo

ultima 1 12-02-07 08:37 AM

will do for now thanks, cliff

I am minimally computer literate, no offense taken, as I never seemed to find the time after 20 years in school and keeping busy, as well as coming from a quiet area in Canada. :)

ultima 1 12-02-07 08:05 PM

I emailed the pics to jeezus , hope he posts them soon.
ALso correction = Jim Haggerty at Mariah.
And Zach = Boostedrex

I had to resize them, but DAMN that is a nice car!

AsianImage 12-02-07 08:40 PM

I may be the minority here..but I think that is HORRIBLE...ugh. Totally killed the car. But..hey its only my opinion. I would never do that to a 1st gen. It looks wacky.

wanklenoob 12-02-07 08:49 PM

It's an Avatar they are supposed to look like that, wow, you make the car look really small lol!

aussiesmg 12-02-07 08:54 PM

That is about the rarest first gen, I believe only 7 were made, is this right?

steve84GS TII 12-02-07 09:02 PM

126 total, although the level of trim, engine work and the body mods vary greatly.
The price for a Base model conversion was $25,000....back 30 years ago!

yetterben 12-02-07 09:23 PM

indeed a very very lucky new owner. Congrats

Box_Man 12-02-07 09:42 PM

Keep those wheels, they look really good. If anything, get the lips polished and the centers re-done in metallic gold powdercoat if they're that bad.

Suspension wise, get some coilovers and performance shocks, and lower it some... Hell, while your at it, make the car 100X better and get a ReSpeed Rack & pinion kit.

STM-RX 12-02-07 10:00 PM

Oooh, widebody is teh secks. Keep us updated.

ultima 1 12-02-07 10:01 PM

Wow, I appreciate the help Jeezus. I have flunked CompuPics101. Thanks.

Well Steve, This is the car you have been helping me go s5 Turbo with. Thanks. I need the car smog legal to keep it alive or who knows where it will end up.

Mr Asianimage...You have excellent taste. The first gen is so clean I have a tough time with the wide fenders. But They have a purpose...BIG ASS tires and wheels. I will solicit your opinion about keeping the antigue rims or going to nicer ones? :)

Also, I respect Jim Haggerty's efforts at Mariah for doing the car. Nice guy.

Also Zach, Boostedrex's PA has the stock fenders. It has the clean look. I am a convertible freak and also love the fb, so this car was a natural.

I will include the specifics of the ULTIMA car, later, as it was a unique build by Mazda North America to showcase the PA car (convertible FB) with sponsorship by recarro for the seats, connolly leather for custom seats, dash etc, Alpine for 12 ? speaker amplified sound system( still intact), and an alarm company for a high tech 1983 electronics setup, the mariah widebody kit and 14 coats of polished ferrari red paint. Also a 12aT motor which flunked smog so bad it hasn't been registered in 7 years (check out the reg stickers on the plate)

mikewoodkozar 12-02-07 10:04 PM

So did you buy it? And how much did you pay if you dont mind, its so rare!

yetterben 12-02-07 10:04 PM

you can send that 12at turbo and mani my way hehehe!

mikewoodkozar 12-02-07 10:07 PM

yeah, actually i was just thinking that, waht are you gonna do with the 12AT motor?

ultima 1 12-02-07 10:12 PM

Boxman....agreed. Already has updated springs and sway bars. I have researched Billy's respeed R&P and without an engine choice yet he has assured me the kit will be okay for my engine choices. Great addition to strengthen the weak front subframe due to cutting off the top !!!!
OK, on the rims, I also thought they were the ugliest things going but they look so retro they grow on me. I already started polishing the rims and they are in great shape. This car was shown at car shows with a black centered rim because Mariah thought the wheels were so ugly, as well. Geeh, my tire guy will freek when I order peformance 14" tires, tee hee. He is going to measure the wheel offset and thinks I should roll with an updated 17" rim as well as keep the original ones on standby for originality.

ultima 1 12-02-07 10:39 PM

No word on the motor. Not legal for smog in california...non registered for 21 years!!!!!!

Box_Man 12-02-07 11:08 PM

Move to Florida, the magical land of no emissions testing.

Your sig car looks weird....lol

trochoid 12-02-07 11:36 PM

Very sweet car, you scored a great one. As far as the wheels, keep polishing or have them done professionally, it will make a big difference. If you do upgrade to larger ones, 15" is my preference. I have two different sets, Epsilons, and SSRs, both are 15". 17", imho, are way to big. By the time you get a tire profile, probably 30-35, to keep the speedo somewhat close, the car will look like a toy car with the tire/wheel combo.

I'm running anywhere from 7-10" wide rims between the 2 sets. With 245/50/15s on the rear, my speedo reads 8-11% off. i.e., I was stopped doing 87 while was holding the speedo at 78.

Personally, I would keep the car as stock as possible, both mechaically and appearance wise. I can, however, understand the need for smogablility and with Steve's help, an S5 engine is a great choice.

Have fun with the project and keep us updated with lots of pics.

diabolical1 12-03-07 03:25 AM

lookin' pretty damn good, there! :)

i agree with Trochoid. i'd keep it as close to original as possible in appearance, but mechanically, i'd have no qualms about upgrading to the 13B-T setup. i think the key for pulling it off though is meticulous attention to detail. definitely post as you progress.

Cliff,

I'm glad to see that you finally posted up a thread on your PA. I have that car on video from SevenStock '06 tuning day at the shop where it used to reside. It's great that it went to a good home!! If it ends up half as nice as that classic Vette you're selling then it will be one incredible car. I've subscribed to this thread so I can keep up to date with things.

Zach

ultima 1 12-03-07 03:42 PM

Thanks, Looks like 15" rims make sense. will polish these up to start. Would like to see pics of your rims, cliff

Later this week we will get a stock motor running and head to smog and registration. I made a promise to the old owner to register the car , otherwise he might have sold it for more money.

hey, Zach, post the picture you have of my 1962 corvette that Iam selling to fund this project. :)

85 FB 12-03-07 03:48 PM

Wow, that car is nice. I like the wheels.

BoostedRex 12-03-07 04:26 PM

Cliff,

I'll post up the pics of your Vette within the next 24 hours. Though I'm quite sure that pics don't do that car justice!

Zach

BoostedRex 12-03-07 06:08 PM

Cliff,

Here are the pictures you asked for.

To everyone else, this is Cliff's classic Vette that he's selling to fund the Ultima project:

Hopefully more than 20 :)

ultima 1 12-03-07 09:32 PM

Thanks Zach, the vette is a car one should be able to appreciate.

When the vette goes, I may add a 94ish Cosmo to the stable for awhile.

yetterben 12-03-07 09:42 PM

What size motor man. 327 or what? jumping from a fb to a f body :) Do your self a favor and get a 97 so you can have the ls1. I had a lt1 94 and i was not happy with it at all.

ultima 1 12-03-07 09:51 PM

Thanks, Jeezus, I got an unsolicited offer for $62K :) last week, let's see if the guy follows thru. I am being lazy trying to sell it as I am really busy at work right now. I promised Zach I would get it listed if he needed to move his PA for sure - which I hope doesn't happen.

I have done a bunch of cars and the thrill is in the process and experiencing new cars.
It is more difficult since i got married 7 years ago. :uhh: I have done a 66 230Sl mercedes. a 57 porsche speedster replica (too small) and a bunch of other cars.

ultima 1 12-03-07 10:15 PM

327 motor built to about 375HP. No smog. That is why I wanted the 3 rotor 20b for the ultima. I am a little wierded out about a turbo s5 as i drove a 94 FD and found the sequential turbos pretty smooth and hope the s5 powerband is as smooth. I am sure the 20b is like silk.

'94 Cosmo.

ultima 1 12-03-07 10:42 PM

You read my mind....nice ride on your avatar...I need a vert.....so I would have to have a convertible 94 cosmo :) as my next project. I am a sick human being....:uhh:

Oops, he thought I meant 94 corvette...nope Mazda Cosmo....unique, nice. I like.

twinkletoes 12-03-07 11:17 PM

Nice vette and convertible fb. Loving it. keep us updated.

ray green 12-04-07 09:12 AM

Very nice cars Cliff, want to trade?

Ray

BoostedRex 12-04-07 09:35 AM

I'm not surprised at the offer you received for your Vette Cliff. I figured the listing price for it would've been around $60-65Kish. A '94 Cosmo huh? Let me know if you decide you want to do that as some of my friends in Australia should be able to source one for your pretty easily.

Zach

ultima 1 12-04-07 10:31 AM

See if this post works: it is part of the sales brouchure on the ultima new. I have the original brouchure. I will see if I can scan it and post (yeah right, don't bet on it), but for now here is the ebay listing:

eBay: 1985 Mazda RX7 Ultima Convertible Show Car PR Release
eBay: Find 1985 ? Mazda RX7 Ultima Convertible Show Car PR Release in the Collectibles , Advertising , Cars , Asian , Mazda category on eBay.
cgi.ebay.com/1985-Mazda-RX7-Ultima- Convertible-Show-Car-PR-Release_... - 71k

Zach, you are killing me...cosmo.....yes, I am researching models, options, RH drive, etc between work flurries. Also, a friend of mine imports JDM stuff into vancouver, my home town. But think of how much pain it will cause you trying to talk me out of making it into a one only Pacific Avatar Convertible Cosmo. I will start a thread asking for input after Xmas, however, I will limit this to research only until the money tree grows back, in the back yard, or the vette money comes. I better not need a spot in my garage to store your car!!! cliff

ultima 1 12-04-07 10:34 AM

Oh crap, I don't think it worked! later. Hey can a moderator delete all of my posts that don't work? so sad....back to work....yech.:wallbash:

ray green 12-04-07 12:45 PM

Cliff, we need you to pass computer pics 101. Post your picture on cardomain or someplace like that, it is free and even a cave man can do it.

Then link to that pic in your post here by using this format:

Here is an example of my sweet daily driver, the White One (the car I'll trade for either your vette or that strange looking and deliciously rare Avatar).

First, the format looks like this - it won't show the picture this time because I've added an extra "/" to the first [img]:

[/img]http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/11/web/479000-479999/479957_89_full.jpg[/img]

Now here is the picture that will appear because I have removed the "/" from the first [/img]:

http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...57_89_full.jpg

Thanks for sharing your good fortunes and impeccable taste with us.

Ray
