DcinPa 12-11-12 04:56 PM

Any updates???

180sx-x 12-25-12 10:54 PM

Yes, update please. I'm curious how the suspension sits when it's lowered.

And I 'work' at Home Depot also (on a military LOA at the moment). It's a good place to work.

Hate to bring this back from the dead, but this is a pretty good thread and hardly shown this well.

Any progress? How's your landlord? Hahaha.

Update

Hey guys!
I have a set of K sport coilovers on the car now.. I'll put some pics of it on here later so you guys can see how it sets lowered.

Here are a couple pictures of the car after installing the K sport coilovers..
I have been slacking on the car real bad for the last few months

You are now officially my *Hero*/ I have been trying to find someone that can actually do this conversion PROPERLY for YEARS!

I can help myself and do a lot of work and mods for myself as I was a mechanic, in a past life. I can also fool around welding, .

Now with the solution of this FC front subframe swap, the and rack and pinion (wonder steer) can be fixed, along with a bigger selection of wheel/ tire combo.. Bigger brakes (ABS???) I can now getting rid of that heavy assed TIIs that I own and build a FB project car.
I have 2 questions... Since I drive wretchedly fast cars wretchedly fast, I am keenly interested in the alignment of the rear and front end, and also the associated tire wear, if any -especially if the car is lowered significantly.
how much does the car weigh now? I would really like a 2100 - 2200lb finished product.

Rx7Turbologic 05-23-13 03:52 AM

You, my friend, are now *officially* my hero! For years I have been searching all over the internet trying to find someone who has done this and documented the swap with pics and a writeup.

As soon as I get home I will attempt this or find someone who will get this done for me ASAP. I have 2 special project engines that I was unwilling to put into a heavy assed TII, I did not want to put them into a FB sither due to the (*Wonder Steering*) small brakes issue and also the weak axles / weak mosler axle and limited handle of the first gen Rx7.

I should build and document my project once I start/complete them...

Thank you Very much!

I have been slacking big time on the project. I just got a new fuel cell for it. So Im going to get my butt in gear and get it back on the road.

As for alignment.. I dont think there will be any issues with tire wear or anything like that. I have it pretty low right now and it seems like there is no real camber problems. I have purchased the racingbeat "camber bar" as well..

As soon as I have it on the road again I will go get it aligned and put her on the scales and give you a update..

Thank you again!

That's a ton of toe in though...

Please inlighten me how the toe in differentiates from a FC?

RGHTBrainDesign 05-27-13 02:20 PM

According to your picture, it looks very different. I'm sure you can still align it effectively with your adjusters though. Could have just been your camera angle too.

Ok.. It's been a long time but I thought I would make a update. The swap was a success ! I just had it up on the alignment rack and everything looked good.

The car handles great! It Feels very stable in the corners.. The snappy oversteer It used to have is gone!

I have yet to make it to a set of scales to find out how much it weights now.

dbragg 08-21-14 07:58 AM

Nice swap and car. I'd be very curious to how this drives.

X-ELE 08-21-14 08:55 AM

Excellent! I Will make this sometime

DreamInRotary 11-04-14 10:14 AM

Subscribing so I can find it later, great looking swap!

Lemme be the devil's advocate here for a sec, as I'm not blinded by brand loyalty.
Admittedly IRS has advantages for handling, but I would oppose this particular swap. I never liked the idea of the FC's floppy hubs, above all other considerations.
Probably the most readily available, most versatile, best supported IRS to consider would be from a Z31. That's an '84-'89 Nissan 300ZX. It would need the camber mod, but offers the same lug pattern, big brake options, more different LSDs, more different gear ratios, a stronger diff assembly, and no floppy hubs.
Better yet, just make the Z31 your handling car, and make the FB your drag car.

this is awesome, we both did the same swap around the same time period and pretty much did the same thing. I had to fab my shock towers from scratch because I had no donor FC to work with.
hands down the best mod I ever did for my first gen. I currently have S5 subframes and Fortune Auto 500s and just popped a Kaaz 1.5 way in place of the open Oem unit. definitely my next project involves camber and toe correction, the rear steer bushings also make a difference when deleted. PartsShopMAX has great prices for those correction kits imo. I may look into that.
I Autocross my car, been doing it almost three years with the swap and never had a problem. even with the RB20ET motor in front, distribution is still 51:49.
sorry for bumping an old thread, as soon as I figure out how to post pics I'll share some of mine
