Update on the Limited......she has been sitting in the workshop for basically a year and a half at least....would crank her here and there to keep the battery from dying and the gas from messing the carb up. I have simply been too busy with other stuff to mess with the car at all. I decided the other day that this spring I was going to get the car back on the road, get her finished and enjoy her. That started today.....charged the battery, got her running (surprised me how easy she started after sitting for months)....took her for a short shakedown cruise to get gas and clean her out a bit...ended up putting about 10 miles on, then came home and washed her and took my daughter for another spin in her. Total today of about 20 miles or so on the road, no problems....
Now, to get myself motivated and get the other 3 extra LE wheels painted and put on so they all look new and I can get this set off (all of them need redoing) and sold or in storage one.... Anyways, a few pics from today.... |

Looking good Barron! I just joined the 83 LE club, sort of. Last summer I picked up a nice set of LE wheels.
Then as luck would have it, a few weeks ago I came across a decent 83 GSL that now sits in the driveway. So I'm going to put it together as close to the LE specs as I can, although the color will have to remain white (I do like that silver however!). We need to get together and compare notes, especially on the LE wheels and those little things that make in an LE. I plan to refinish the wheels sometime soon and want to quiz you on how to do it. |

Ray- Yell anytime, I can fill ya in on the wheels...they aren't too bad to restore at all....as far as the little things on an LE, most of the little stuff I know, they are about the only 7's I have ever been around.... |

Car is still for sale. I rebuilt the carb, and now has the dreaded vacuum leak and wont idle. I have no time to track down and fix. My loss, your gain, so I am dropping the price on this car to $3500. Need garage space....you wont be disappointed. This is one of the nicest LE's you will ever see....

As metioned in the classified, the car wasn't running right and, much to my dismay still needs some love. I've been busy in an effort to get things smoothed out with the engine but fixing cars is not my forte. I've had the carb off, cleaned, adjusted and reassembled it following the excellent guides out there. Ran smoke to find vac leaks and replaced hoses after finding some. Replaced Clutch master/slave and lines. I'm getting to know the 12A a little better now but still it's not right and I'm not ashamed to call for some advice ... Today I pulled the plugs and they're sooty. I guess this is the sign of a lean condition? It seems to make sense to me because the engine runs much better when the choke is engaged than when not (richening the mix). The carb looks to be operating fine - fuel bowls 1/2 full to the line and even streams from the jets. I'm thinking that there's maybe still a vac leak somewhere which is leaning out the mix ... does this sound plausible? Also, while the plugs were out I cranked the engine over to hear the compression on each rotor - sounded like clockwork so I can assume that seals are ok in the block? One thing maybe worth mentioning on the engine is that the shutter valve is wired open (holes plugged etc). I'm not 100% sure how this affects the engine's operation with it wired open all the time. Is this valve closed over at idle normally, and if so would it not have a serious effect on the idle mixture if it were to be open at idle and drawing fuel? After being sent this build thread today I’d like to introduce myself as the current owner!
The car now resides in the North-West of the United Kingdom. From Georgia, to Massachusetts to the UK. Reading through and learning the cars history has made me incredibly happy, I feel lucky to of owned such a wonderful car. I will be looking to sell soon but I have enjoyed every second of ownership. In my ownership the radiator has been replaced for a new Koyo aluminium radiator from Japan. A perfect OEM fit with original fan and cowl but more efficient cooling. The suspension has been changed for BC Racing Coilovers and was even featured on their recent Instagram post! The steering wheel I changed for my Nardi steering wheel I’ve fitting to most of my cars and is also very special to me. I’ve also changed the 14” LE wheels for a set of 13” Advan A3C wheels I imported from Japan, also dated from the early 1980s. Other than that I’ve also tried to tidy up the car wherever needed and gave it a service and fresh battery. All parts I removed I have kept and will be refitting when the time comes for me to sell. The car won an award from the show organisers of Exclusive JDM show in 2023. Slightly ironic with the car being USDM but I was ecstatic to win an award. It’s been featured on BC Racing and Caffeine & Machine’s social media as well as many other Facebook groups. My Instagram account is @luke_g40 for anyone wanting more photos. Essentially used the instagram as a build thread. I also spoke to the Homologation department with Mazda UK and got a letter stating the cars original date of manufacture. I’m hoping to come out to America this year to see my best friend in Atlanta. If Joe or Barron, the previous owners, want to meet up and aren’t too far away it would be my absolute pleasure to buy either of you a beer. If anyone can get in touch with Barron please do so I can thank him for him care and attention during his ownership. I bought the car of Joe so already have his details and thanked already.
