Some elbow grease and a vacuum

After some work to replace fuel lines, battery, coolant, and some scrubbing, she started and saw sunlight.

Tune up supplies begin to arrive!

Step 1: tune up the car and get her running.
Tuning dual carburetors is not my thing!! But we will figure it out.

Engine finally running “smoother”

I’ve replaced: plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor. Cleaned the carbs and filters and followed webers guide to tuning them. Changed engine oil and filter and transmission fluid.
car runs so much better!

Im fairly sure I have a small vacuum leak somewhere and still need to check the timing and balance the two carbs. Stuff for this arrives today. But the car idles and doesn’t backfire any longer!!

Im also thinking one of the gaskets in the exhaust is shot. I can hear the exhaust echo when I pull up next to something. I’m sure I’ll find that when I do the smoke test. Just hoping I can 1. Find the replacement gasket for the one that is shot. 2. Break the bolts!!

on a positive note, started teaching my son to drive it.

he doesn’t quite understand why you have to keep the clutch in when you’re stopped but still in gear and he keeps trying to start in 3rd gear and wondering why he stalls the car 😂🤦‍♂️

Found “small” leak in exhaust

While trying to tune it and look for vacuum leaks with a fog machine, I noticed smoke coming out from under the car. Both exhaust gaskets were completely disintigrated.
I can tell these exhausts were meant to be worked on off of the car as getting that top bolt off was a real pain!

I'm sure I'm going to be replacing the muffler here soon as well.

Next planned steps.

address wiring rats nest around engine
replace suspension bushings
replace oil pan and gasket
fix internal wiring / stereo / speakers

then start on the cosmetic stuff.

thanks! I can’t help but be singing “East bound and down, loaded up and truckin', we're gonna do what they say can't be done.” Every time I take her on the interstate 😂

and tell me… did you sing that as you read it? I know you did.

How did the recaro seats clean up? Any idea what those are or what they are from?

Is that a mariah mode 1-4 rear hatch? Never seen one of those in the wild.

Agreed, really nice figment and lines of the whole body kit.

Might as well ask… are those wheels panasports/weds/mini lites with a center cap as a faux knock off?

Your Recaro Seats are so 80's looking. A perfect compliment to our 1st gen builds.
