i wish i could still get those flares. i sent them an email a couple months ago and they told me they are no longer available due to low volume and starting to run into quality problems with there manufacturer.
Any idea if there's anybody else that has those flares for sale? Awesome project man, its got me drooling all over my laptop |
What's the difference between the MFR rotor housings and other engine components over the stock parts that were on the cars sold to the public? Are they more light weight or are they different by the size of some of the openings?
Also if you don't mind can you post pictures? ^_^ |

Cool idea and great execution. Nice to see you're going all out, getting all the mechanical parts together as well as the look.

Any progress? Great project!

Well not a lot to report, started to put a few item on. Still waiting on some NOS parts from Mazda...
Trying to use as much new parts as possible. New Tail lights lens and gaskets http://imageshack.us/a/img88/3330/tailltjpg1.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img171/7733/taillt.jpg New vents, connectors and screws. https://imageshack.us/a/img152/4079/newrx7parts.jpg Taillights in, but just still waiting on the new washers, that fit around the lens screws. Oh also a new weather seal for the rear hatch. https://imageshack.us/a/img846/6099/taillightsin.jpg New brake booster and clutch master, aswell a new bonnet latch. https://imageshack.us/a/img204/6429/enginebayf.jpg |
such a sexy beast! are you going to attempt to do the original style seat? i've been lucky to be able to actually SEE the real car in person 1-2 times a year for the past decade, and its got some sparco or something in it now, but it originally had a modified stock seat
|
Here's a pic of the race seat. This was the closed fabric I could find, close to the factory cloth.

Beautiful.
That is all I have to say. |
that looks great!
|
 The rotary gods are pleased
|
A very nice project!
|
Saweeeet!
Keep 'm comin'! |
I figured I would add my project ideas here since I mentioned them a few times. Everyone in the 1st gen world loves this particular car. I have the 1:43 die cast sitting 3" from my keyboard right now as an example. With mine, I am doing a dark blue base paint (lotus color) while utilizing the stripes from this car but instead of the two greens, I will use black and dark gray. However I can not get the big flares you have to do the car. Currently I have Ronin Flares on the car with the factory paint and striping from the dealer. Once I have the money saved up, I will be buying the mariah GTO WB kit and then paintin it.
I like your car, I love the work and major cuddos for getting it done right. |
Thanks for the kind words...

New door handles https://imageshack.us/a/img21/2686/doorhandles.jpg https://imageshack.us/a/img513/8316/doorhandleq.jpg New door seals, inner and outer weatherstrips. Best to install the inner one first. https://imageshack.us/a/img525/8137/newdoorseals.jpg https://imageshack.us/a/img841/2842/...therstrips.jpg Mounted the pedal box aswell and cables https://imageshack.us/a/img525/1672/pedalbox.jpg This is a series 2 pedal box, as i can't find the genuine clutch bracket, for the larger MFR brake booster could fit. Just cut the clutch mount on the fire wall and move it over 20mm. |
yours is gonna be nicer than the original.
|
Beautifully done.. LOVELY car. I have the model of that bad boy from when I was a teenager on my desk.
|
Hey mate, where did you get those new (?) tail lights from? Mazda? Roughly how much did they set you back?

neeeeed updates!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry Guys, the motor will be put together very soon. Been chasing some bits, I can't find anywhere, a new Oil Pump sproket and new front cover smaller bolts (38mm). As this motor will be full of new parts, bar the MFR 12a Housing & MFR Side plates, there second hand. Keeping the New housings for the next motor, in which I'll build it with the MFR Dry Sump set up.
I've put together the bumpers, with new bumper rubber strips and indicator lens. https://imageshack.us/a/img208/4092/photo21ef.jpg |
Ok, bit of an update. Matt Russell started putting together my engine yesterday, after a bit of preping.
Rotor.....both Lightened and Race clearanced. https://imageshack.us/a/img18/2876/photo36r.jpg Started with all new parts for the motor, the only bits that isn't available from Mazda are the 3 shorter front cover bolts and the Oil Pump gear. The rest ALL new, even bolts! https://imageshack.us/a/img4/7710/photo47s.jpg MFR Bolts https://imageshack.us/a/img195/7829/photo38km.jpg Engine..... https://imageshack.us/a/img7/135/photo37e.jpg https://imageshack.us/a/img600/4540/photo39b.jpg IMG]http://imageshack.us/a/img401/9529/photo46m.jpg[/IMG] https://imageshack.us/a/img826/8559/photo40b.jpg https://imageshack.us/a/img850/4412/photo41ur.jpg https://imageshack.us/a/img69/5031/photo42j.jpg https://imageshack.us/a/img407/8629/photo44n.jpg https://imageshack.us/a/img802/4645/photo48h.jpg Now just waiting on some new Oil pump and oil pickup bolts, then finishing with front cover, sump ETC. Then it will be run in on an engine dyno. Can't wait, keen to see it run and that MFR noise........... |
Thx for the update!
