ummmm......BONER! The body looks flawless, of that I am jealous. The wheels are a bit big for my taste but hey, I'm just a lame-o rolling on 13's.

More pics for sure! Two years of work, I hope you were taking pictures throughout....

lilmazdarx7 02-26-12 10:38 PM

i dont have many pics but heres a few

I do body and paint myself, so I can appreciate what you have done - it looks really nice.

I did the polished brightwork myself when I built a convertible back in 1990. I used early GLC door handles, which are chrome plated, and found some chrome wiper arms. I also used chrome bumpers and some body parts from an RX-2.

Are you running a stock motor?

777CheekZ 02-27-12 09:55 AM

BEAUTIFUL!!
Love those wheels..just need come fender flares and maybe a bit lowered for a perfect stance..good on ya!

lilmazdarx7 02-27-12 12:31 PM

I just recently went alittle lower on the rear. I thought of fender flares also but I would have had to get them before the paint and my budget didn't alow.

i thinks it's perfect. you did a great job

Adsy01 02-27-12 02:32 PM

I like it!
I love the colour and body work, it looks great.

The offset and the tyre size is all wrong for my liking, but I get the look you're trying to achive.

I love those rims, it just would look better IMO in the offsets of your old rims.

if u say u lowered it now..must look amazing..cnt wait for more pics!!!:score:

lilmazdarx7 02-28-12 12:06 AM

since lowering the rear of my car im now geting a vibration from my driveshaft.I took it to get balanced and still have the vibration. so i checked my pinion angle and now its off so im thinking of making some adjustable lower arms for the rear to corect the pinion angle. heres a pic of what im thinking of making.

Jibaro 12A 02-28-12 06:40 PM

are you still 4x110 or 4x114?

lilmazdarx7 02-28-12 07:36 PM

2 Attachment(s)
im no longer 4x110 i converted to 4x114 but not with the SE stuff. I redrilled my axles and pressed in some ARP studs for the rear. For the front i redrilled and tapped the rotor then used some threaded studs from mazdatrix. heres some pics.

mojave 03-03-12 12:19 AM

How about a little bit more about those wheels in the very first picture?

Are they 17's? What size tires and what kinda backspacing? I'd guess like 4" but i cant tell how wide the tires are

Either way, clean car. :icon_tup:

carbwiz 03-03-12 05:42 AM

you did a great job! not sure about the vibration, i'm sure you'll figure it out soon. car looks amazing

lilmazdarx7 03-03-12 01:36 PM

the specs of the gold wheels are XXR 527 16x8.25 with a 0 offset or 4.625" backspace. The wheels have dual bolt patern 4x100 and 4x114. those wheels also come in 15x8.25 and also they have their 522 series thats 15X8 0 offset
im runing some falken 195/50/16 tires.

heres a pic of the 522 series

lilmazdarx7 03-08-12 08:46 PM

Did you drill the axles and hubs your self or have a machine shop do it? If you did could you explain, did you just measure and drill? Build a template?

craaaazzy 12-20-12 08:54 AM

good work on the control arm. what will u be using for spacers to keep in centered?

dbragg 12-20-12 09:31 AM

Nice car and work. I am really digging the XXR 527s.

I assume you either have machining skills, or a good shop, but I too am curious about how you did the axles and rotors. When I went 5 lug years ago, I couldn't find a shop that would touch drilling my GSLSE axles to 5x114.3, but I solved that with a pair of Moser axles.

How about some more pictures of the interior and some engine bay shots? Out of curiosity, is the car built for any particular purpose or just enjoyment?

I have acces to a machine shop at work so on my brakes i hung the axles off of a conventional mill found center and drilled the holes 2.25 from center. As for the hubs i had a friend at work stick them on a CNC mill and drill the holes for me

red94yj 12-20-12 12:28 PM

I like the ideas you are going with on your build. Especially the your new bolt pattern idea. Keep up the good work!

red94yj 12-20-12 12:33 PM

I don't think I have ever seen this color on a car before. You have done a great job with it. I like the build.

jaman 12-20-12 01:26 PM

What product did you use to coat the interior of the car? I have some rust that I want to fix and then coat but not sure what to use.

I finally got a chance to do some more work on the car.

I installed the lower control arms and did the alignment. I set the arms to -1.5 camber. I probably could go up to -3 degrees. I did the alignment in my garage.

lilmazdarx7 03-28-13 05:12 PM

thank you.

Im glad they ended up fiting.

neektar 03-29-13 06:46 AM

How'd the finished product of the rear lower link come out? I'm interested in a similar solution, possibly using off the shelf parts meant for another car. I do like this way better though.

Car looks great too. I love that color.

lilmazdarx7 03-29-13 10:02 AM

The rear lower links worked out great. Iwas able to get my pinion angle back to where it need to be. no more vibrations at freeway speed.
