The motor went in today and I have some new power steering pulleys to add a little bling to the engine bay.

Using my holiday vacation time efficiently. Oil cooler is in with custom AN fittings and I dropped in the KoyoRad radiator. Funny thing, they didn't give me a cap for the radiator and the stock one doesn't fit. They also moved the temp switch #2 to the top instead of the bottom. I think the factory wires will fit, but seems like an odd thing to change. I'm also a little bummed that it was scuffed during the packaging. It came out of the box with that very slight scratch across the fins.

Long day today. Let me see if I can remember everything.

I got the exhaust header back on, nothing exciting there except I forgot to put the gasket so I had to take it off and reinstall it. I did however test fit the Racing Beat heat shield to see how that was going to look.

Next I plumbed all the coolant hoses. I'm hoping this aftermarket silicone stuff will work but that heater hose is tricky. I put one of those springs inside it to prevent it from collapsing and pinching. Not sure if that is kosher with heater hoses, thoughts? Anyway, it did conform to the path I wanted it to take with some coaxing. If it doesn't stay, I'll just order an OEM hose.

I also did the final assembly of the power steering system. New seals for the pressure sensor (or whatever that thing is), a fresh coat of paint for the pump, and some new shiny bolts because I couldn't have the rusty ones anywhere near that new pulley. There was a slight clearance issue with the bracket that I solved with a quick cut.

Painted the stock alternator tension bracket and got that installed too. I had to shave 15mm off the long alternator bolt because clearance was very tight with the throttle position sensor.

I almost mounted it backwards. But then I realized I would have to remove the intake if I needed to replace the alternator.

Double checked to make sure I had the right fitting for the brake booster. I'll push this hose on all the way during final assembly. The intake is going to have to come on and off a few times before it's done.

Up next I think I'll figure out where the fuel pressure regulator is going and fab up a bracket and cut the fuel lines. Overall it was a good day of emptying my box of parts. I still have some more things to order like an electric fan and a fuse box for all the new circuits.

Keeping with the street car theme, I grabbed some parts and cut off a section of the rats nest so I could keep an EVAP system with my EFI upgrade. I think I mentioned above that I will just use a solenoid to enable it once the throttle is depressed. This is how it works with the carb by using one of the port air vacuum sources.

Awesome work, great build.

Had a bit of a challenge to get the OMP working with the aftermarket throttle body. The front side of it has very little clearance with the alternator and the throttle position sensor goes on that side anyway. I think this should work. I noticed the Jenvey linkage kit articulates in the same arc as the OMP so I bent a rod, heated up one end and hammered it flat, then with some locking nuts and washers managed to get it working. I will still premix at the track, but for cruising around, road trips, and commuting I didn't want to be messing with funnels and premix fluids. Last step will be to tap the intake for the lines. I've got some nice fittings for that which I will share once I'm done.

Thanks! Taking my time and making sure I do things right the first time. Nice enough to feel proud popping the hood at car meets, but not so nice that I won't be afraid to drive it. All suggestions and criticism welcome...I was about to just hook up the factory hard lines before I was steered toward a complete fuel system upgrade. Possible overkill for a 175-200hp build but if/when I decide I want more power later it will be a lot easier.

Quick evening job replacing the rest of the EVAP lines under the car.

nice work so far.. as far as heater hoses I dont think it matters to much.. yours look good to me.. I did a little different but very similar.. I bought 90 bends and some adapter nipples etc and made mine work... but I could also hide mine mostly because of the REW plenum

I forget if I mentioned it above (when I scroll in this GarageTalk app not all the photos load), but I was worried about the heater line between the motor and firewall. I took a chance and ordered the FC kit and used the pieces in it to make a much nicer line with no kinks. I didn't have to put anything inside to keep it from collapsing since it pretty much followed the path it needed to go. I used the piece that was supposed to connect to radiator with a joiner to get the final bend in.

You should, I've been doing SCCA TNIA events for a few years now and plan to hit up Canaan with the MassTuning club as well. I'd like to get up to Tamworth too but I haven't researched clubs that I can join for the day. My wife will be joining me for some events too, we just finished a minor restoration of an '85 MR2 for her. I tried getting her on the track with her base-level Focus but she wanted something she didn't care so much about...hence the cheapest sporty car we could find that wasn't a Miata (she didn't want one).

thats sweet, im hoping to hit thompspn and palmer first thing this year, i wanna establish a baseline while im saving for some suspension goodies. will prob do racing beat springs and MR2 struts out from with the mustang rear shocks, seems to be the common place as the tocikos are MIA. had a chance to drive mine this weekend, smiles for miles. getting married this year me and a group of friends are considering renting canaan for a day

Check out the MassTuning events if you want to get to Canaan. The first event is in May. The group on Facebook is a lot of posers but the guys who show up to the track events are a good bunch. Canaan is a good first track experience as it's slow with tight corners. Perfect for bridging the gap between Autocross and road courses. Thompson is a good second as it opens up a bit. Palmer was my first track and it scared the crap out of me.

I have a few lap times from Palmer I can share with you. My first trip I just had the RB springs and Tokico Blues, the next event I quickly put the RB sway bar in and that really helped. Later on I added the exhaust. I think you'll have fun without any upgrades...although tires are kind of important. What are you planning to run?

I was going to offer riding along with you but I just got an email from the organizers of SCCA TNIA and this year they are banning passengers. That really sucks. I may seriously consider some other events because that was a part I really enjoyed...getting help from drivers better than me and passing along that info to drivers who needed a little instruction.

I currently have falken azenis on there it’s what came with the car. I heard about the no passenger rules. My
buddoes run Palmer and Thompson they are pretty bummed, you’ve probably seen them out there. 944turbo and a 2013 mustang gt red racing stripes.

I cant wait to get some seat time and see how she does. I hope to catch a glimpse of your car in person as well.

I'll see if I can get the car back together and tuned by then. Last year was a bust for track days for me. I had a good day at Limerock but I think every other event I attended was wet and rainy and the Nitto NT01 tires didn't work so well. Here was my worst session at Thompson where I learned what it's like to not have ABS on a half-wet track. This year I'm getting some tires for my 13"s that I can use if it's rainy.

Toyo RA1s come in 205/60 for 13" wheels and are supposed to be a good wet track tire.
