Great work on all of that! Its time consuming but well worth the time and effort put in! Its not surprising how well these cars ride with new suspension components! What brand of braided stainless brake hoses did you use?

The stainless brake and clutch hoses came from Mazdatrix. I update the bill of material above. When I have a chance, maybe I'll post all the part numbers.

Agreed about the quality of ride. The new brake system, including the stainless, made a huge difference as well. I initially thought my brake booster may have to be changed out but I think mine is fine now that I have new brake parts and stainless lines to remove the spongy feel.

I think I should have posted this on the build thread... can one of the moderators move it before I add too much to it?

I moved it for you. My next purchase for my 85 is going to be a set of braided stainless brake hoses. I've been weighing some options on where to get them.

Pronkie1,
Beautiful! I plan to re-paint back to the 3A Royal Maroon soon. Looks like you have a late production '85 too. Just curious... what is the VIN? With the painted mirrors it has to be an Apr/May 85 car - one of the last produced.

Thanks for the info.....I found this one in Sacramento CA on Super Bowl Sunday of 2020....I was the third person to respond to the Craigslist ad...Had been searching for over two years for one....The two previous people bailed, one went to a Super Bowl party and the other didn't have the funds..Flew up to get it, rented a truck and trailer and brought it home...Whoever owned before the seller took out the a/c and relocated the battery to the passenger bin...Also added those hood vents from a Datsun 280zx...Hasn't ran in over a year due to the fuel injectors not getting a signal....Had two shops look at it and now going to a third shop for all new ignition.....Hopefully this month it will be done.....

Suggest getting the wiring diagrams (Factory Shop Manuals can be downloaded) and following along with what could cause injectors not to fire. I went through the same process about 2 years ago. One thing that is easy to check.... when the car is turning over, do you see the tach bounce? Make sure your mechanic knows what they are doing - had that problem too! Wiring diagrams will tell a lot. I think the airflow meter can also prevent the injectors from firing.

Interior Work

Happy with how closely the paint color recommended on this forum matches the original maroon. Can't wait to get this stuff re-installed.

Any suggestion for dying or replacing original maroon carpet?

Nice job on the trim pieces....Here a link for the carpet....I've used them twice for a 71 Ranchero I had and a 1990 Mustang which I still have....Very happy with the items both times......https://www.accmats.com/commerce/198...Flooring/1931/

Jkmcafee - i love the car, and i love what you're doing with it. the time and effort you spent on the front and rear suspension systems is very evident and even more impressive. as for the interior trim, the restoration (so far) appears phenomenal to me.

did you ever get them? if so, what did you think?

i got the ones from Mazdatrix for my '84, and i swear, next to my RB exhaust, it was probably the single best thing i did to the car. it was a night and day kinda thing.

GSL-SE Rear Caliper Rebuild

Found some pics of the GSL-SE Rear Caliper Rebuild. If you've never rebuilt one of these, there are some interesting challenges, but it was fun!

That's fair. Come to think of it, the fact that I had to build a special tool to compress those washers in the vice was a royal pain in the ***.

Coolant Leak

Drove the GSL-SE last time I was in Georgia and noticed a coolant leak. Hoping it isn't engine related. It is a mist of coolant under pressure and it looks like it is coming out of the oil pressure sending unit!. I know there are a couple of coolant hoses down there so I will look more carefully when I'm back in GA. No white smoke or anything, just interested in knowing your thoughts as to likely causes. Need to swap all the coolant hoses anyway.

More than likely just a coolant hose. Likely the lower hose on the rear iron that connects to the heater core.they commonly leak due to oil dripling from the filter during an oil change and softening the hose over time. I wouldn't drive it until you've found and fixed the leak. I lost an engine this way once. Had no idea I had a leak and the engine overheated on the highway.
