For the oil pan, get a stud kit. I like the stainless ones. Just search eBay for 12A oil pan stud kit.

For the stationary gears, get the factory one used from some one. The others are kind of hit and miss,

When putting the water pump housing back on, don't forget the two spacer washers. The go where the gasket doesn't cover so that its even and doesn't snap something.

i have the stationary gears just not the bolts

transmission

what fluid do u use in the manual trans? the trans is out right now and we are going to replace the fluid/gear oil before it goes back in.

rxtasy3 10-14-23 11:39 AM

nothing special. just the usual 80 or 90W gear oil. same for the rearend unless it's an LSD, then u would need oil specifically for that.

KansasCityREPU 10-14-23 06:02 PM

The rear end uses the same gear oil as the trans. If it has LSD use the LSD additive.

concerning our build

so we are rebuilding our rx7, the motor and transmission are out. I want to check all the electrical. can i just connect a battery? will all the systems work other than the stuff that doesn't need the motor, such as interior like windows dash gauages, wipers ect is there an ECU for an 85 GS? aka computer? that controls these systems? i know there is a fuse box. does that get power from the battery?

KansasCityREPU 10-16-23 12:58 PM

The basic interior stuff will work like rado, lights, cig lighter, pwr windows, etc. The gauges like temp, oil, tach will not work because the sensors are on the engine. The fuel gauge will work. Some of the idiot lights will work but not all. The computer for the engine is in the passenger footwell under a plate. It's not like a modern day car computer.

Electrical

I hooked up battery to it when I got it home and there was no power to anything. I did this to see if I coukd roll the windows up or operate the headlight motors. The window motors work cause I took the door panel off and hooked directly to the window motors. Previous owner removed a wire harness but I think its goes to the running lights in the front clip

KansasCityREPU 10-16-23 03:08 PM

The windows should work as long as you have the center console window switches hooked up. That harness goes from the switch, under the driver's seat to a connector, then up the drivers side footwell. The passenger side splits off from there. You do need ignition switch power.

Since you pulled the starter as part of the engine/trans pull, make sure you have a good ground since the major ground goes to the starter.

Paulieboy72 10-16-23 10:11 PM

So previous owner removed the AC. Lines are still there coming out of the firewall. No condenser, compressor, drier ect. Best to just leave it gone?

Paulieboy72 10-16-23 10:27 PM

12a engine harness

Ok o have the FSM and a haynes manual. The previous owner started a emissions delete and removed engine and trans. I will keep the emmissions delete and I'm going to simplify the nikki. I am looking for a simplfies engine wiring diagram. With all emmisions deleted the AC was also rwmoved by previous owner. Just trying to get things to work without the motor and trans in, like headlighrs wipers dashlights, windows, ect. Put a battery in and get nothing. Does ignition need power for lughts wipers and such? What does the ignition wire look lije from the drivers side harness? Have an 85 GS. I have no clue on what pluga go where except for the obvious two large orange plugs on the pass firewall.

Here is the cc actuator. It lives on the passenger side firewall. It has one cable, one vacuum hose, and an electrical connection. There is also a cc cpu in the driver's side bin area.

The top cable is for cc.

Yes. The vacuum attached to it.

So no rats nest no cruise right?

Paulieboy72 10-28-23 06:44 PM

So we have been researching our 84 GS...according to the VIN. Also according to the VIN the GS had manual windows, manual mirrors, drum brakes in the rear and an open diff. I have been checking out our project, so far I have discovered it has PW, PMirrors, 4 wheel disc brakes, LSD, and lug nits instead of bolts....what gives? Accorsing to the VIN it shoukdnt have any of those things...any ideas?

The VIN won't tell the trim level. All of those items, minus the lug nuts, came as an option to the GS. Even the sunroof was an optional choice on the GS. None of the 12A Rx-7s came with lug nuts so someone added those. For the other options someone could have added. The power windows would be the hardest because the non-power window RX-7s did not get the car side wiring harness for those, One big way to tell if it's a GSL, which had all those options, would be the climate control. Does yours have push buttons or sliders? Yes, someone could have added it, but it's not that easy.

I also believe the seat fabric pattern will tell if it's a GSL or GS option but I forget the pattern. From what I'm finding, the S and GS has dots and the GSL and GSL-SE had lines in the fabric.

Climate controls are push button and seats have lines
