My radiator came today, will be putting it in shortly after I'm done posting

https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...81a269ccac.jpg

This thing is huge,i have the same one on my tan car,and the temp gauge don't go above 1/4 of the way up

https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...9e2b7805d4.jpg

This is the fan that came with it,im not sure if im going to use rhis one or the one tjat came with my other radiator, that one has an aluminum shroud on it tjat fits perfectly on the radiator

craaaazzy 06-24-16 08:15 PM

Glad to hear you are feeling better. That is a nice looking radiator u got there. Hopefully no fitment issues. If u are not using the fan, hit me up...I may be able to take that off ur hands if ur interested in selling it.

erick31876 06-26-16 05:28 PM

Got the radiator mounted up,the only fitment issue I had was on the aluminum fan shroud I have, all I had to do to fix that was,cut out notches in the sides where the mounting tabs go on the shroud, easy enough
https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...98e78e1bb5.jpg

I had this for about 4 or 5 years and never even opened it,to my surprise, it has a blue fan,i ordered it with a black fan, luckily i had another new one the same size laying around

https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...ba7c8b450b.jpg

Here it is with the black fan mounted, and all trimmed up and fitting nice

https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...b08c12ea47.jpg

Here it is installed in the car,im surprised that there is actually a good amount of room between the fan and water pump pulley.the reason the pressure tester is on the radiator, when i filled it up ,i noticed a couple of small leaks, luckily it was nothing major, just 2 leaking clamps, and the piece of heater hose that goues from that pipe that runs along the frame rail to the radiator, i painted the pipe, and when i put it back in,i didn't notice that i didn't change the hose

https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...25e29010c7.jpg

Craaazzzy, these are the fans i have left, the blue one is 16 inches at the ends of the cover, and the black one ,which came with the radiator, is 13 inches at the ends,if you need one ,let me lnow

I also put the intake manifold back on,mounted the boost sensor and variable resistor, and ran some vacuum lines, my phone died so on couldn't take pictures

mazda1200 06-26-16 05:30 PM

looking nice

erick31876 06-27-16 08:58 PM

Got some more work done on the car tonight. I reinstalled the alternator, ran like 90%of my ground wires, and figured out how to run the blow off valve and the rest of the intercooler pipe
https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...740314ddd2.jpg

This last part of the intercooler tube was a pain in the ass, this is how it is going to look, i didn't put the clamps on it yet, just in case i have to remove it to install the spark plug wires,or anything else

woodmv 06-28-16 05:40 PM

Wiring escapes me... I was never good at it. I have to admire the ambition and hard work that you've put in to this conversion. I've seen it done a couple times on here and each time it looks like a LOTTTTTTTTT of work. Great job!

Qingdao 06-28-16 08:19 PM

I was conversing on BOV location with a buddy of mine at work the other day. We both agreed (with no actual data, testing or research) that the best location for on is as close to the throttle as possible.

The idea behind our logic is that after throttle is closed the air rushes out of the BOV. Once the BOV is closed and the throttle is re-opened air continues along the IC piping into the engine. All of the air in the length of IC piping between the BOV and the throttle will move backwards away from the throttle when the BOV is opened. Seems like you would want to minimize any backwards air travel.

Like I said I did no research or testing.... just being a bullshit artist at work.

erick31876 07-03-16 04:11 PM

Got 99% of the wiring done ,and ran into a problem, the fuel pump relay/ resistor that I have is from a s5,and the harness/ecu I'm using is a s4
https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...03c9368fd9.jpg

This is the wrong fprr

https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...70f47eb67c.jpg

Notice the difference in the plugs, i need the round one,my fprr has a square plug. You can't stick a square plug into a round hole, believe me, i tried:banghead: :wtf:

I searched all over, I know I have another one,but can't find it, but luckily I found someone else who has one ,but can't ship it until Tuesday, damn holiday weekend. If anyone knows how to bypass this just so I can start it until my other fprr gets here ,please let me know, I searched and found a couple different things. But they just ended up confusing me
https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...464dc1ddb1.jpg

This is how im mounting the battery, under tje driver side storage bin frame

Qingdao 07-03-16 06:38 PM

That's a tinnnnnnny battery. :icon_tup:

I know all about the holiday weekend. I ordered a distributer for my Ghia from rock auto...... GOTTA WAIT TILL TUESDAY! Now I'm gonna be bored as shit tomorrow.

All I can say about the FPR is that both the S4 and S5 fpr's do the same thing. There has to be some common wiring there. Dig into the wiring diagrams and good luck.

erick31876 07-04-16 02:16 PM

Ok I figured out how to bypass the fuel pump relay/ resistor, did that. Finished up the wiring, went to start it and heard something leaking. I have a bad fuel leak from somewhere near the tank, time to drop it and see if I can get this thing running today

erick31876 07-04-16 09:02 PM

I found the fuel leak,it was the one line i didn't change, the little piece of line about a foot long right above the rear
https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...7cd5bf451a.jpg

As you can see it is rusted really bad,i guess from the extra pressure, it blew out. It was so bad that when i removed the hose from it ,it broke

Qingdao 07-04-16 09:34 PM

just throw some duct tape on it and go for a drive!!

erick31876 07-06-16 08:53 PM

Fixed the fuel leak, tried starting it,nothing. Checked over the usual suspects, wasn't getting spark, had fuel at the regulator, took plugs out, didn't smell any gas, checked the wiring at the main relay ,turns out that i hooked the black with yellow wire up to a loose piece of wire that was laying there, fixed that. Now I had spark, but it was random, went over the wiring diagram, decided to hook a extra cas that I have up and spin it by hand heard the injectors clicking And the coils,so now I'm scratching my head,I was going to try actually swapping the cas out with the extra one, when i disconnected the plug,in noticed that the wires weren't all the way in,took a closers look and noticed that they were turned wrong inside the plug so they weren't locking in.fixed that. started cranking it again, and it fired right up!!!!!. After running for about 5 to 10 seconds it started gushing oil out of it it was coming out of the oil feed line for the turbo at The Crush washers so I ran to AutoZone and got some new crush washers and fixed that.

https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...170f82549b.jpg

Oil all over everything

https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...5cb3dd2db4.jpg

Coming out of the crush washers

https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...768ae96b3c.jpg

The dn oil shot almost halfway across the shop, now I have to clean it up before I go home

I took a video of it running, but I can figure out how to insert it,it won't let me do it the same way as pictures
Now I have to hook up the alternator, and clean all of the wiring up,and get a exhaust, it doesn't sound too good with a open downpipe, I have a racing beat muffler, I just have to get it installed

craaaazzy 07-06-16 09:14 PM

Awesome but not awesome! What a mess...I don't know how I'd react if that happened to me.

Qingdao 07-06-16 09:45 PM

haha when I first fired mine up same thing happened with the oil leak.

Rust prevention at its best!

At least I know I have oil pressure, lol:crackup:

erick31876 07-17-16 02:05 PM

Ivery been really busy with work for the last couple weeks so I haven't had hardly any time to work on the car, except for a little bit each night after work, last weekend I met a guy on Craigslist that was selling all kinds of parts,he used to race first gens back in the 80'side, and had a whole hoard of parts so last weekend I borrowed a truck and went to meet him, turns out he has a machine shop,so I took him my big brake kit that I got,and he is going to make copies of it for me. Also he makes short throw shifters,
https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...c5ad596025.jpg

Here is what it looks like,i installed it in the car,it feels loke flipping a toggle switch,no play at all.he only chargede 60.00 for it,and said he has enough materials to make 4 or 5 more, and enough materials to make 8 to 10 shift knobs if any one is interested in them

https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...27b5a76b4e.jpg

Here is how it looks installed

I also have been starting it and working all of the bugs out.I can't stand how it sounds with the open downpipe so today I made the world's most ghetto exhaust, well as piece to connect the downpipe to the rest of the exhaust
https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...d1a0ad39af.jpg

I cut one of the flanges off of the presilencer that i have and welded a pipe adapter to the inside of it and clamped a cheap AutoZone flex pipe to it

https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...741c574279.jpg

Bolted the fron up to the down pipe and slid the back over the rear pipe and clamped it down. This will have to do until i can take it to the exhaust shop and get my 3 inch exhaust installed

And right now I'm working on cleaning up the wiring and wrapping the harness and routing it good

craaaazzy 07-17-16 08:49 PM

Erick, clear ur inbox please.

Been a while since I've been on here, but this is looking great Erick!

woodmv 07-29-16 07:14 AM

Eric, did you build your cart yet? I can get you better pics and dimensions of mine if you need them.

Thanks Shawn, I got a lot of the wiring cleaned up and wrapped, also got all of the gauges and warning lights working. Also figured out the reverse lights.just have to finish them up,then I can finish routing everything the way I want to and wrap the wiring up.

Wood mv,that would be great if you could send me the measurements for the cart,I have to make one soon, that guy that I got them shifters from, has a 85 shell without a sun/moonroof that I'm getting,so I'm going to need something to put it on:nod:

Added a couple shots so you can see how it sits inside the upper 2x4 runners

erick31876 08-17-16 08:16 PM

Got a lot of the wiring cleaned up,also have been starting the car up every day to make sure nothing is wrong, hooked up my boost gauge and noticed that it wasn't making any boost, found a few videos on YouTube on how to check for them, and found a whole lot of small leaks at the couplers,in one of the videos it said that hairspray works like a adhesive to seal them up,so I figured that I would try it out.I'll be damned,it works,a couple snaps of the throttle went up to 6psi .

In case anyone is wondering, this is what it said to use

Mounted my boost gauge and wideband gauge in this gauge pod that ive been saving for 3 years
