What does the car weigh ? We are completing a D/P build for Rocky Mountain Vintage Racing. We have yet to put in the lexan windshield and rear hatch and we are not gutting the doors down as far as you did otherwise we should be similar in weight.

2195# is my min weight with my miata gears. At close to empty with me in it I was under that by five pounds. Added a 10# weight where the passenger seat would be. Will probably remove that when I convert my muffler to lava rock.

lava rock? will they be left as rock or crushed? interested to here more about this.

I was planning on getting the smaller rock size, sold for bbq and fire pits, but would appreciate feedback from those that know.

I blew out a stainless muffler with steel wool in two sessions at the Runoffs. Then blew ithe top off during the race. I have since installed a Burns stainless round unit with fiberglass scrubble but can tell that the fill is blown out as well after three weekends. The rear or the canister is removable so going to try the lava rock next.

The smaller stuff for a grill is the stuff to use - bonus would be used rock from a grill so your car smells like BBQ! Fill the muffler can about 3/4 of the way full and reseal it. When the rocks break up they will start coming out the tail pipe. Seems like we could get 2-3 years out of the rocks.

I noticed you are not running the brake dust shields on the front. Did you just mount the parts without them on or did you cut them?

I have the parts to convert to GSL-SE but the dust shields I have are all beat up. I was thinking of not trying to repair them if its possible to not use them.

On the GSL set up shown there I cut the shields down to almost nothing and welded some short 3” exhaust pipe for the flexible brake duct tubing. Not shown in that pic. When I converted to the KC rotor/hub set up I did not have the correct shield to cut up so now I have no modified shield/bracket and just zip ties holding the flex duct in place.

Racecars really dont need the dust shield.

Next question.....we are going to 15x7 race slicks. Front end wheel wells are all stock, ride height is stock. The only difference is the 3 inch cooling hoses to the brake rotors.

Looking for 15x7 4x110 wheels. I found some Rota OS style to fit. They are listed as 20 offset. Will that work ? If not, what offset do I need ?????

Any opinions on the Rota OS wheel ? We are vintage road racers (Car pics in above posts). We want the classic retro look of the old GTU days, would this wheel work well on a vintage racer ? I would love Enkei 92 but cannot find them in 4x110 anywhere.

I can’t say I have any experience with the wheels you listed in that application. I lot depends on the tires. If you are going to run cantilever slicks like we do in EP, I doubt that will work unless you use spacers to clear the struts and cut your fenders. Looks like you have flares so maybe that is possible.

I run 15x7 Panasports with 0 offset. Hoosier slicks just clear the Mariah fiberglass wide body fender. I ran some 225 R7 Hoosier r- compound tires that had much more clearance. I bought my wheels directly from the distributor and the service was excellent. Contact Mas@panasport.com.

I think you’d get a better answer from those that know if you specify the tire you plan on using.

Here it is rusting away on the side of the house, not impressive to look at but sure worked well for me. Used salvaged 3” & 3.5” tube steel. I added some 1/2” all-thread studs and some extra uni-strut once the car was done and drive train installed. Held the 2000# load quite well. I would add jack stands when working under it once I was at full load. Wasn’t a concern in the early days. Could spin 360 deg. by myself no problem. If I would do anything different I would get larger casters. Was in a hurry back then and what was available at supply store. Has two height settings but only used the lower one.

Sorry don't have part #'s. Upper hose is from Atkins or Mazdatrix. Lower is made up of four pieces...90 bend, maybe a 45(i think) bend, straight tube for splice and a a rubber adapter bushing to go up one size at the water pump neck. I picked up a bunch of hoses etc. at a performance shop in Sacramento and just sort of pieced it together until it fit.

Runoffs ended well for me but had carb issues when I arrived. Austin killed it in qualifying, was just amazing. I don't know the details of the race incident he was in, just saw him going off to the left around turn 10. I feel really bad for him. Didn't get a chance to talk to him before we left.

Hopefully the Rotary Reunion can happen next year and you can being your car!

No problem, I appreciate the info. So, Austin got hit by one of the Z3's that turned into him as it was avoiding a car spinning in front of it. Broken the left rear wheel and he was done.

I had my car at the reunion this year on display, didn't race as I don't have a conference license...maybe next year
