Alright, im gonna attempt to write my build progress via a cell phone as I go along so be patient. I bought my first rx7 a 85 gs non runing for 1g back in may I believe. In 45min of work and a spare battery from my zx2 she was layin rubber. I had done small maintence on it, 2 tires, painted it from gold/primer/rust/half clear coat peeled to a flat spray paint black. Also deletwd a couple things off the carb and did the freeze plug mod as the intake was leaking coolant. 1 of the plugs leaked still. It has a rigged efan on it, pump delete, off brand header and rigged ricer exhaust, 2 speakers powered by a amp and cheap radio for the tunes lol.

A month ago the motor went. 60 compression on the best seal on the front 40 for the other 2 and 70 for the rear rotor. I stripped the motor of everything I could except the beehive cooler but cant get anyone to help me lift the motor out. (no idea how much this will weigh so I dont want to do it by myself unless someone knows?) I have picked up a s4 water pump housing and quick polished it and the neck. Bought a rebuild kit for the carb but wanting to know everything I can do for it while its out. Gf isnt to happy with it sprawed out on the kitchen floor. (theres a story behind that).

Im still trying to source a few parts incase I find a short block or if I can afford to rebuild mine because its gonna have to be ported. Kind of hard with winter paychecks and holidays but im doing good right now and not to the point of trading yet. So this is the beggining of project boogy woogie a cheap hard work build to improve and fix all the riggin to her.

glad to hear someone else pulls these engine like i do! i take an 8-10 foot 4x4 lay it across the stut towers and use a strap to attach it to the engine, then get a friend to help and lift it out. ive done 4 engine swaps this way and they are pretty light. just make sure you dont try to pull the engine/trans, that'll be alot harder.

Well when you grew up in the country you learned to work harder and cheaper than easier.

Here is what I have been working on. S4 waterpump housing polished with polished neck. Carb and kit ready to be put together.

Right now im stripping and modding the intake manifold. If anyone has done this to the full extent please chime in. I need inspiration.

Ok thanks to highnitro I took a 6ft pole and 3 ratchet straps and pulled the motor out pretty easily. Took it to a guy to gett the rear nut off and instead they took apart the rear half of the motor and every bolt except the front one in the pully. So im having a hell of a time.

Full extent....... are you the nikki or emissions equipment?

I did the intake. Waiting on my new book to do the nikki. Mean while im working on the bolt in the front of the motor to tear it down.

Ok I found a high milage motor for $150 that I need a truck to pick it up that will go into the car so that I have something to drive while I rebuild the other motor. itll be a ported 12a with coolant mod, emissions stripped, rats nest deleted, modified stock intake, s4 water pump and housing. Still deciding on ignition system as I hate msd products. Also im open for a aircleaner idea on the nikki.

with the mods you plan on doing, two blaster 2 coils will be fine. no need to go crazy on a 12a unless u boost it or perhaps bridgeport it.

as for the nikki air cleaner id get a plenum and run some intake pipe to a good k&n cone filter. if done cleanly it will look pretty sharp.

I have 1 accel coil already and plan on getting another.but I dont know which way I want to go for the rest of the ignition. I love the KISS method for most things. As for the air cleaner I just dont like the rb or factory one so I want to go a little different

Ok guys I have been hard at work the last couple of weeks reconditioning parts, ordering new ones, getting my new temporary high mileage motor and modding some parts. I reworked the factory intake, polished the 4th gen water pump housing (the weight difference is amazing) ordered a gmp water pump and painted it, matched with a stant 180 thermostat. Dissasembled 2 of my 3 carbs and stripped them to make 1 for this motor. And hopefully in a few hours ill have the carb finished after 25-30 hours of work into it.

It aint true without pics. 1 and 2 are of new motor. 3 is mess of carb parts on kitchen floor (and the landlord wants to take a walk through next week). 4 and 5 are the intake waterpump and housing.

Here are some pics of my carb that I just got done. 40+ hours into painting, cleaning, rebuilding, stripping, and modding it. I know its not for everyone but it was a learning experience for me.

So i picked up the high milage motor and cleaned it and did a few things to it. Right now i need a engine hoist to get it into the car and so on. The motor sits now with the homemade omp block off plate, spark plug area ground away so i dont need a new plug socket, 2nd gen waterpump housing with a new waterpump and thermostat, about to have the new rear engine seal in and hopefully later i can pick up a waterpump pully( b/c nobody said you had to have a 2nd gen one to do the swap) and a washer for the eccentric shaft nut so i can put my freshly machined flywheel on.

Am I going crazy? Are there seriously spend bullet casings on your carb?

Yes there is. 243 casings to be exact. And more to come elsewhere when i get the chance. Do you guys Like it or not?

Is that an aluminum waterpump housing? If it's not and just bare metal it's going to rust really fast. I do power coating and live in Liberty if you want anything powder coated or just blasted.

Also, the top of that waterpump housing neck to a perfect place to put an aftermarket water temp sensor. I have one just like it. I also have a tap and die set to put a sensor in. Just let me know.

Kcrepu that is a 2nd gen aluminium housing i quick polished and clear coated. But if you do powder coatingwe may have to make some deals down the road. And i retapped all the housings holes while i was at it. I need to see if i will even need the sensor in the back of the housing or if i can switch that to controle the efan. Im hoping to put the motor in on sunday but i have no idea where to hook a engine hoist to the motor to drop it in and how to install and the distributor and time it as thats a new one for me. More to learn.

I have a couple questions and dont flame me. I have a high milage motor and no funds at the moment. What can i do to REVIVE the current clutch besides that i resurfaced the flywheel since the clutch has a decent amount if life in it and also isnt there supposed to be a washer behind the shaft nut or not?
