Mind if I ask what? You're the third person I've heard this from and I'm getting worried haha

82transam 04-15-13 09:07 AM

Fram is fine..... Looking good.

mstrmnd 04-15-13 03:28 PM

great starting point

Qingdao 04-15-13 08:23 PM

Cut the Fram filter in half...

Less paper element. No check vavling, and that might be a REAL big issue with a filter that is upside down.

But I'm not gonna start a filter brand war.

Wix @ Walmart for an Integra fits. $3, lol.

Well, newest updates.

Attachment 674459

This is what I've been looking at the last week and a half. Two blizzards later, I'm waiting for the snow to melt. Today most of it has melted and the car is ready for driving later this week under Nikki power. No turbo swap until after May 11th it looks like because I'm getting the windows tinted and need to be able to drive the car to the event. Now I think I'll wait until after that date to swap the engine in.

It's all good bro that's how it often goes. I just cracked my windshield installing my a-pillar gauges - rock chip right near the edge and exactly in the spot of the screw hole. So, shiney new radiator fund just became shiney new windshield fund. Everything in due time. Actually in my sitch it works out, this glass is hella scratched up, and had 5 rock chips in front of the driver!!

That tint situation is a one time gig - you can do the TII swap any time.

I can't believe your weather!! It's finally thawing in the NW, trees just started blooming 2 days ago!

riceburner1r2001 05-07-13 06:29 AM

how much boost do u plan on going with

notveryhappyjack 05-07-13 12:47 PM

Lol @ painting individual bolt heads.

Sr flywheel! Super nice part. This project is shaping up nice, good work.
Did you remove the pressure plate and check out the condition surface / thickness of the disc?

The power of suggestion!! I just busted my windshield as well!

Drilled the bottom hole in the Mazdatrix A-Pillar gauge pod, put the screw in and all was well. Went to work the next day, fine on the way there. Grabbed something from my car in the middle of the shift, still OK. Went to leave - CRACK! :( Good thing I added glass insurance on the car this year, so I'll be making a claim soon to get a new windshield, there's no way they can fill the glass in that crack.

I'll be going in two days to go get the windows tinted, pretty stoked and ready to meet some local Mazda owners - super cool. After that I'll start the swap.

Will be leaving the stock boost limit in the FC S4 TII ECU N332 at 8.5psi of boost.

I bought a Knight Sports Fuel Cut Defender for the car within the last few weeks so I can run 8.5psi of boost and not get the dreaded fuel cut in Rotor #2. I know it's not a good fix, but it will help in higher RPM's. I got the boost gauge and AEM UEGO wideband controller to make sure I don't run too lean.

Eventually with a Haltech (hopefully Sprint RE, but maybe E6k) I'll run some more boost. But by then I'll want a Cosmo 13bRE anyways

Haha and then I covered the screws up with the plugs provided in the kit!

I did take them off, I believe that I took a few pics...

Argh. Well, I lost my slave cylinder on the interstate on my way home last night from an hour South of my house with the fiance. Was able to limp it for an hour with no clutch but they closed the interstate and I got stuck on the off ramp with every North-bound vehicle passing me. So had dad come and tow me home, luckily was only 15min from home at that point.

So now I am going to go out and fix the slave cylinder tomorrow morning after scrapping the FC. Will get it running and driving fine so I can go to the tinting day on Saturday that I've had scheduled for a while. Will get to meet some other MN Mazda guys so it should be all cool.

As you can see, I took everything I wanted from the FC:
Complete front subframe
Swaybar
Hubs, rotors, calipers
Steering rack (15:1 non-power ratio)
Steering column
Rear calipers

Pretty stoked about the turbo swap coming soon, I plan on starting on Monday afternoon. Old 12a will be coming out, 13bt going in. Will need the fuel line, fuel filter, modify the gas tank, modify transmission mount, wire in the ECU, and I can start the engine!

Lots of work left, but excited!

DreamInRotary 05-13-13 11:35 PM

No pic updates:
1. Put a deposit down on a TII to S3 driveshaft that has been used and tested working for cheaper than it would be to have one custom made here, and this way I can keep the TII shaft, 12a shaft, and have the custom shaft for different projects and such that I have along the way.
2. Spent 4 hours on wiring harness double checking last night to ensure I can get it in there the right way. Don't want to do this twice. Will be wrapping up with that here hopefully soon so I can move on to actually putting it into the car and getting the whole swap going.
3. Made plans to have the car done by June 1st. I'd love to have it done by May 29th so I can roll down to the Minnesota Garage Geeks MNGG meets at Sonic to meet some other rotary guys in the area. We will see though, don't want to rush it.

List:
Remove 12a and trans
Run aluminum fuel line
Modify gas tank for FC in-tank fuel pump setup
Wire in ECU and harness
Drop in 13bt and trans
New hockey-puck modded engine mounts
Custom tranny mount
Test fire engine and make sure everything is working correctly
Get driveshaft in mail
Install driveshaft
Enjoy :egrin:

Thats a really good plan. Inspiring for me to get off my ass and get the EFI installed. :D

I also see there is significantly less snow on the ground now than there was previously!

Yeah, I find a plan to be much more encouraging than thinking about all the things that have to be done. I have the tendency to get overly stressed thinking about it all at once so I've learned to go in a sequence and it's definitely helped :icon_tup:

Haha no more snow now! Just had our first 90*F day as well, getting towards summer now - yay!

Thanks, your car is looking awesome as well!

Tonight's update for now:
Ordered the following from Summit

http://static.summitracing.com/globa...800-170_PC.jpg
http://static.summitracing.com/globa.../SUM-G2538.jpg

Accel Fuel filter
Fuel line fixes to adapt an inline fuel filter
25ft roll 3/8in aluminum fuel line

So I can hopefully get that in on Monday or Tuesday. Want to start swapping the engine in but not sure if I'll be able to have everything I think I need at my disposal to have it up and running sooner.

May have another or returned hernia from November, so that may slow the progress but hopefully I can avoid the pain and surgery for long enough to get the turbo engine in :egrin:

jonzie04 05-16-13 02:08 AM

christ, where do you live? thats a lot of snow. haha

Super happy with the progress - goal is to have the engine and transmission mounted tomorrow evening and start wiring and fuel Monday :icon_tup::egrin:

A big step like that is quite gratifying. 103 little ones and you're Rollin'!

Making great progress man, keep it up and you'll be done soon. Just a bunch of plumbing and wiring stuff now, most of the big things are done...

Haha yeah, and 100 of them are wiring! Shouldn't take too long though, going over the harness tonight and will hopefully be getting it in within the next few days.

Got the coolant system plumbed today, without the beehive it's a little bit simpler:icon_tup: But yeah, fuel plumbing and wiring harness and getting everything where I want it and I should be good to go!:egrin:

 That picture had my brother and I almost in tears!

But yeah, things are getting pretty serious...

"I'm just really trying to raise a few bucks so I can bring her out for a few days" is the next part of that line and that about fits the direction of the build perfectly

Progress on the night:
Transmission mounted solidly to the chassis, tightened the engine mount bolts as well
Attachment 670901

Put the Racing Beat 2.5" downpipe on to see how it fits - perfectly of course :icon_tup: (that wiring connector is for the wideband sensor)
Attachment 670902

Going to try to get some wiring done here for a bit, some more tomorrow. Still need to get a double flare tool to get going on the fuel system, but that shouldn't take too long I don't think.
