85 GSL-SE Racecar Build

5 Attachment(s)
I am building an 85 GSL-SE from the ground up literally into a race car... This far I have close to 450Hours of labor into her. I have stripped the interior to bare metal, used dry ice to get the sound deadening material out easily. Ive stripped the whole car down to a bare shell except the doors fenders and hood... The car has been sanded, bondoed, and painted black. The engine and suspension is currently under rebuild.. My plans are to put the radiator and fuel cell in the back of the car under the window, scalloped rotors, ceramic apex seals, titanium timing gears and chain, Aluminum rotor housing, high flow oil pump and injector, dual high flow in line fuel pumps, in line twin 88mm yes I said 88mm turbos from turbonetics racing, 4-core intercooler from hks, Tien 32way adjustable coil overs all the way around, BFGoodrich Dry comp radial tires on 17X13in wheels from BBS. Too much more to list right now.. I will add pics and such literally as soon as I get it done. Here are some of what I've got done thus far...

twin 88's??? what kind of "race car" are you building? drag? keeping an eye on this...

MishlerDennis 11-19-13 04:33 PM

Not for drag, for circuit and I love doing crazy builds which this one will be the nuttiest one yet for me... Its in remembrance of my first FB race car an 84 RX-7 that had scalloped rotors, Ceramic apex seals, 4 1/2in down pipe integrated from a cummins, 1050CFM Holley Double Pumper, Racing beat header, Racing Beat intake manifold ported and polished, 10mm Ignition wires, NGK platinum series plugs, and ran off of 50% nitrometh mix... God do I miss that car..

Slow Rotor 12-04-13 08:12 PM

Awesome. How much hp are you expecting?

R.P.M. 12-04-13 09:31 PM

No dyno can contain the amount of WHP this will make

MishlerDennis 12-05-13 04:53 PM

I am hoping to be in between the 1100-1600HP range.. If I end up blowing the 13B apart then
I suppose I was right to want a 26B in the first place lol

MaczPayne 12-05-13 07:36 PM

Dayum, Titanium timing gears? Baller!

as opposed to ???

or do you mean aluminum side housings?

high flow oil pump ...
can you elaborate on this?

K-Tune 12-06-13 07:26 AM

Are you doing anything to address e-shaft flex above 700hp?

MishlerDennis 12-06-13 11:13 AM

Racing Beat makes racing specialized rotor housing that is currently on the motor... Sorry I wasn't as descriptive as I should have been.. And the E-Shaft flex is being addressed by ordering from Mazdaspeed, If it works for the pro teams then I hope it would work for me lol

aa35199 12-09-13 01:21 AM

Just for shits and grins, how much money and how much time do you think this will take?

MishlerDennis 12-09-13 11:53 AM

I have estamated 5years and $45,000 give or take $10,000...

ER34 12-09-13 06:59 PM

please tell us more

stevensimon 12-09-13 09:04 PM

update please!

i want to see the housings

MishlerDennis 12-10-13 03:19 PM

sorry guys but due to the cold weather and the car being in a lean tube next to my house instead of a shop i have to hold off on doing any more until its at least 50 degrees outside Mostly because my 8year old daughter is helping me and i don't work on it without her.

rotordogg 12-10-13 04:03 PM

I wish I could get my 8-year-old daughter to help me on my 7. Everytime I ask her to help me, she stands there for a few moments and then says she is bored and goes to play with her barbies. :(

Where did you the motor? I like that the intake and exhaust are on the opposite side. I need one for my RHD car because it's real busy with the intake, exhaust and steering rack all on the same side.

Please do elablorate on this.

MishlerDennis 12-17-13 11:03 AM

Might not be the exact same formula as nitrometh i suppose but a local gas station here sells 5gallon cans of jet fuel, that is what was being mixed 50/50 with premium gasoline to be exact. I believe it is 151octane and cost $55 per 5 gallon container.

Very cool

Well sense its a Frozen wonderland outside right now I'm starting the cage.. Doing a 12point out of 3 1/2 inch diameter, 1/8 inch thick steel tubing. Right now I've got a bar bender, and some of the tubing bent for the main halo and my center support.. Hoping like hell i can find a good welder and grinder this month so the cage can be finished by january or febuary. I have attached the design that I am doing "in general" but the way I am planning out my cage is like a top fuel dragster or funny car because of how much power Is planned on going into the car. If there is a wreck then I will stay with the cage and not the car lol...

Have you done much reading about the Dunning-Kruger effect? Very important effect to be aware of when building one of these cars.

The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which unskilled individuals suffer from illusory superiority, mistakenly rating their ability much higher than is accurate. This bias is attributed to a metacognitive inability of the unskilled to recognize their ineptitude.[1] Actual competence may weaken self-confidence, as competent individuals may falsely assume that others have an equivalent understanding.
David Dunning and Justin Kruger of Cornell University conclude, "the miscalibration of the incompetent stems from an error about the self, whereas the miscalibration of the highly competent stems from an error about others".

So Im going to ask you and ask you ONCE.. What the hell is that supposed to mean?? Im Building my DREAM CAR and your going to sit there giving me shit?? No I don't think I'm better than anyone, no i don't think i know everything, no i am not an expert but i sure and the hell have a lot of experience in what i talk about otherwise it wouldn't come out of my got dam mouth PERIOD. If your not supportive or at least constructive criticism about someones project then stay off their page and I'm telling you right now if I see a post like that on my page again calling me "incompetent, stupid, a liar, inexperienced" or any kind of other harassment then you will be reported and banned from my post...
