The Merc/Merc solution

Electric fans. The Ford fans( actually from a 2000 Mercury Cougar) were just a bit wide so some 1.5” aluminum was used to frame this in. I will be running a controller from a Mercedes, still need to wire it in and the controller is in transit at the time of this posting

Keen eyes can see the intercooler inlet an outlet.

Mounted oil cooler, intercooler, condenser and radiator.

Interesting placement of the intercooler inlet, I hadn't thought of it fitting there. Nice.

Exciting progress! :)

Richard Miller 01-27-21 02:43 PM

the intercooler is from an Audi 5000. I wanted the inlet and outlet on the same side as i wanted to avoid battery relocation and also keep the length of tubing to a minimum. the IC is mounted to the 2' support tube. using off road light mount brackets.

Benjamin4456 01-27-21 03:34 PM

Interesting. I understand the desire to not relocate the battery - I'm hoping for the same thing whenever I get around to doing my setup. I figured it would be necessary to relocate the coolant bottle and have both charge pipes come through the passenger radiator support, didn't think of one of them fitting under it. I'm taking notes :). Looks like a tight fit though.

I also saw it wrong before, I thought your oil cooler was your intercooler. Now I see what you mean about the light brackets. Good idea.

I will need a different overflow tank. While a GSLSE tank with a neck would work. It blocks where I will be running the fresh air intake. I believe the Audi IC I’m using measures 3.5x14x9.5. Got it for some $40 or so. I used to own the same type of car and was running 1.4Bar though it. If I run 20 psi though a NA GSLSE, I’m likely going to be walking.

Thats an incredible radiator and intercooler setup!! You're doing such nice work on this car!! Keep up the good work!

Controller mounted

And mostly wired . I feel I should do a write up on this.

it didn't end up fitting in my FC, but go junkyard shopping for an overflow from a 90-2003 Honda/Acura, the bracket uses the same slider deal as the Rx7 charcoal canister and washer bottle, and the bottle is rectangular

Looks fantastic mate! Wow! Great job! Curious, I have the same radiator, Koyorad for 83-85, how do you get it to not hit on the engine mounts. You've got a good inch spare it looks like.
Very envious of how awesome your project is working out.

Hee. hee. ECU has been energized. Now to chase down some weird things. Like triggering the AC and the thermal fan runs full tilt.
