1979 IMSA GTU Group C Restore :)
Well I have been trying to obtain this car for 12 years!!!!!! Just the other
day one of my good friends, call's me to tell me that there was a wild body rx7 for sale in my town. I was like What! LOL who had this? I thought I know of all the rx7's in my town. I got the # and called and BOOOOM It was my Unicorn!! So I had to have it. I got it home today, had to buy two tires for the rear. Man tires for a 10.5 low pro 15 is out of site. The wheels on it is SSR FM's :) Front is 15x8.5 and the Rear is 15x10.5. The car has the Trans Atlantic Porsche Kit on it. Well here's some pics, and more to come. Thanks http://i549.photobucket.com/albums/i...SANY0155-1.jpg http://i549.photobucket.com/albums/i...5/SANY0150.jpg http://i549.photobucket.com/albums/i...SANY0156-1.jpg http://i549.photobucket.com/albums/i...5/SANY0158.jpg http://i549.photobucket.com/albums/i...SANY0153-1.jpg http://i549.photobucket.com/albums/i...5/SANY0159.jpghttp://i549.photobucket.com/albums/i...5/SANY0167.jpg http://i549.photobucket.com/albums/i...5/SANY0165.jpg http://i549.photobucket.com/albums/i...5/SANY0163.jpg http://i549.photobucket.com/albums/i...5/SANY0164.jpg |

Umm well I'm going to be putting my 13b Bridgeport in it, Holset HX55, My Haltech and maybe a 9'' ford or just a 8.8. Will see :) |
In the Door It's a 5-78 and is # SA22C507436 So 7436 I think that it's an Early Build.

Sweet ride, are you gutting the interior and making it a full race wide body or are you restoring it as it sits?
Never mind the picture I was looking at was an Fc..... Ignore me. :dunce: |

OK :) So I got a new job and now work on the car will continue. :) I will update soooon with pics.
|
I love the vintage wheels, what made you decide to run 295s on the rear?
|
Well Being it's Going to have an Large 13b Bridgeport in it with a Huge Holset HX50,
With some Mooser Axle's. LOL I'm hoping to make some where near 800hp. My last FB put down 700hp on 32psi with C16, and 516hp on 21psi and a pump mix. So will see. :) |
^^holy schnikees!
|
subscribed for sure. man that spoiler is sick. i want it on my wide body. good luck
|
Oh wow that is one cool car...:)
|
i would love to have one of those wings as well... lol
|
i think everyone is rooting for the wing, make a mold and make a couple of fiberglass wings. i am sure many of us are willing to pay for it. you can use that money to bring it to its former glory again.
|
are you serious? $700?
One of those rims would cost $700.. p.s- y no updates for like 20 days? |
Mariah motosports still sells the wing. no need to do all the work if someone still makes it

Yep, wing is still available. I know someone on the club said theh had checked into it and the prices were raised but they were mistaken. Posted price ($560 I think it was) is correct. They are slow to respond to emails.
I am going to be watching this thread and going over the older widebody threads often. I finally arranged shipping on my widebody donor car. |
problem with that wing is that on a non wide body car it would look out of place.
I always wanted one of those wings too but will never have a wide body so will have to stick to the IMSA 3pc rear spoiler. |

Not trying to thread jack, but Chad, I have to say I disagree. Here are some pics of examples of why I do.
The first pic you posted would be a nice spoiler. I wanted to take my IMSA one and have it glasses out and a bit more aggressive. Cant wait to see what this wide body ends up being in the end. Will be watching......... |
It's all good I don't mind the pics. LOL Just been soooo!! Busy the past few weeks. I will post
up some progress pics soon. Done fixed a drive shaft to fit the t2 trans, and I got a nice OS Giken Super twin Disk Clutch. :) To put the power down. And a set of Moser Engineering Axles two. So It is coming but slow. |
Awesome find, and amazing build. I'm looking forward to the results.
|
How wide do you think you can go in the rear? I was thinking about going with the 295/50/15 also but was undecided.
