Are they streetable, or drag only? Pretty sure Rob wants to go further than the end of a long driveway.

Lol exactly! Someone worded it this way and it fits my goals. I'm building a hypercar not a race car. For example, there are people with my trans clocking 30k miles.

I respect the big guys using billet motor parts but I've had two different respectable sources speak against it for more than drag racing. I sadly have no experience with all that shiny stuff.

But Rob... It would look so dang cute. :p

Minor update

As I get closer to SEMA, the stress mounts Haha.

Started getting in my suspension mounts while I have my arms, spindles, etc machined. My other machinist went awol so I reached out and found several people willing to step in.

The car will definitely be making it to the event. Still a roller but a clear display of the insanity.

I am using corvette wheel hubs so my RX7 will no longer use the same bolt pattern. Basically starting an ls swap from the other end of the car lol. I told people on IG if they can guess what inspired the rather simple control arm design, they will know my secrets for the reveal. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...bf7f9cc451.jpg

Control arms coming to life! Love CNC metal work! Anything is possible.

Rguy 09-30-16 10:36 PM

When this is all done...can you pull the motor and throw in an LS in there just for fun? Id love to see the reactions...

You guys get the first sneak peek here! Lower control arms almost finished. The machine shop put my logo in without my knowledge as a lightening pocket. I love it!

ZoomZoom 10-05-16 09:23 PM

I was expecting your countenance CNC machined into some billet.

LO7 10-05-16 10:07 PM

Rob DAHMINATION! Look fwd to seeing it all together.

Better late than never! Haha. The drivetrain and suspension being as experimental as it is has taken the most time to prepare. Finally time to mate it to the rx7. Or. What's left of it. My original time line has the car running in March. It might be sooner than that. But of course I wish it wasn't just a rolling concept car at Sema. Regardless, I'm so excited to share the results.

As you see the shock towers exiting the vehicle, you can see my qualification from standard classes in sanctioned events leaving as well. I'm perfectly okay with that.

stickmantijuana 10-15-16 11:24 AM

haha I've never seen the entire underbody cut out like that. you're basically building a new car from scratch with 4rotor. I guess the question is what are you actually keeping from the rx7? windshield? why not just start with a roll cage?

I think you should just buy a cnc machine. it isn't too expensive relatively speaking. a used one with good bits can be had for price of your transmission.

Windshield and roof line...

kindof like an IMSA car or a Pikes Peak car maybe?

I am really really not understanding the reasoning you went through before you decided to take a 25 years old cheap japanese sportscar from one of the smallest car makers with limited R&D budget, that was originaly made for < 300hp, and come out with plans like that...

But i love it :D
Its so insanely crazy that you cant do anything else than admire it.

Tube it!!

I think thats a wonderful idea! haha.

And yes the windshield stays. The doors stay too. I want it to clearly look like a FD. Pay homage to the body lines ive stared at for 15 years. Then ill fuck it up with a wide body kit or something lol

Cuzzynz 10-20-16 06:52 AM

i dont think you will fuck it up, i think its gunna be sweet. more design and customer parts into it then most people.. but your also spending more then most to so.. yea should be cool

Don't f it up too bad! The coolness of this project will be making it look like a FD... Even if there is something more sinister under the skin.

Is this still gonna make SEMA?

There will be a hunk of metal at SEMA that resembles an rx7 and hopefully lives up to the insanely high expectations put on this build lol.

The things Abel and everyone here at FR Performance have done far exceed my vision. The car was intended to be a roller at SEMA a year ago. I didn't realize how aggressive of a goal that was.

Some pics leaked on Facebook and while I am not happy with that, the response has been excellent. I'll treat it as a focus group haha

Moe Greene 10-31-16 01:38 AM

Rob, you and David need to coordinate some sort of meet up. Would love to come and check out both cars. Two 4 rotors in one place...:drool1::drool1::drool::drool:

7_rocket 11-01-16 02:23 PM

Saw the pics online. Very sinister

ptrhahn 11-01-16 02:32 PM

I applaud the effort—really ambitious and turning out well. Just my 2 cents, you need to lose the spoiler... it looks like it's off a '78 Trans Am. In fact the '78 Trans Am's is better sculpted. That Rocket Bunny thing looks homemade/tacked on. It's just not a modern feature befitting the vision for the build.

marky. 11-01-16 03:31 PM

AWD 4 rotor turbo WOW 👊Nice work

Zepticon 11-01-16 03:33 PM

I cant understand why you put the RX7 chassi on this, when you should be making a 787B replica! But its close to my wet dream tho, a 626 with AWD and a crossmounted 20B x)
