Smile Restoring the red comet.

I joined the club 18 months ago when I got a 1992 FD RX7
from a buddy, he left it in a field after the engine died.
I was hopeful it wasn't blown at the time (original post)
but after a compression test found it needed a rebuild.

I've loved the RX7 since I was a kid and am fascinated with rotaries.
After some research I decided to tackle the engine rebuild myself.
My goal is to restore the car to its original glory, while adding some
much needed reliability mods; maybe a tad more power.

Here are some pics of the engine pull and restore so far:

13B REW almost ready to pull out.

Tagging and marking for disassembly.

Filthy parts on the inspection table.

Incriminating gouges on the housing.

Nice newish rotor vs old damaged one.

Cleaned, inspected, and painted. The replacement housings are street ported for slightly better exhaust flow.

Looking pretty and ready to assemble.

Let me know what you guys/gals think of the progress, I'll post more pics of the assembly and dropping it back into the beauty.

Looks good! Always happy to see an FD being saved from a field!

Thanks Dale, these beauties are getting rarer and rarer; save as many of em as we can.

Had to do some body work to her as well.
The car was hit on the front left so you can see the slight buckle in the frame,
gonna get that pulled out asap, and a minor under hood rust repair and paint touch up:

Frame buckled from a hit.

Some under hood paint worn out and slightly rusted.

Cleaned up with a fresh coat of red.
