My FP HTA3586R build.
Well i figured the motor is just about together and I am getting closer to putting the whole car back in one piece I mine as well start a little build thread.
So the story begins. To give you the quick history. I bought the 93 R1 from my friend it had a A-spec T3 35r on it and a microtech LT10s running stock intake pumped to an anti surge tank with two walbros hard wired. All neccassary supporting mods to boot. The price was unbeatable. I purchased two slightly used 3mm petit rotors and my engine builder gave me a set of Hurley seals he had sitting around. Then I got the almost new rotor housing and all necassary gaskets and it was ready for reassembly. |
Okay so I needed an ecu and purchased a PFC w/commander, GM 3 bar map and HKS twin power igintion.

The car had the power steering removed and I will be installing the power steering cooler below as I found out that the stock steering cooler does not fit with the rotary extreme v-mount kit.

The car was running -6 feed to the anitsurge tank, two -8 out to individual inline filters the to a Y fitting to one single -8 feed line ran to a Y up front with -6 to primary and -8 to secondary rail. The feed was a -8 return to the surge tank then a -6 return to the stock tank.
I have since redesigned the system for a much simpler setup. I removed the antisurge tank completely. I decided to run the -8 feed and -8 return directly to the tank with one inline filter. I removed the stock -6 fixed lines on the tank cover and replaced with two -8 bulk heads and 90 elbows. I am leaving the split up front the way it was but will probably install the FPR differently. I removed the Y temporarily to install the filter roughly 12" before the split upfront. http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f1...s/IMAG0061.jpg |
I am taking Howard Coleman's advice and running one intank supra pump with a kenne bell BAP.
The existing tank setup. http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f1...s/IMAG0063.jpg Drilled the old pipes out. http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f1...s/100_4703.jpg Pump and lines removed. http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f1...s/100_4705.jpg |
Test fit before I sand and repaint the top of the cover.

I forgot to throw a pic up of the HTA86! Its pretty, its soo damn pretty! It is a T3 1.06 so it will bolt right up to the existing A-Spec kit.

While the motor was being built I decided to purchase some shine auto project pieces and get them fitted.
Feed style bumper and Fenders. http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f1...s/IMAG0026.jpg Side steps http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f1...s/IMAG0008.jpg |
looks good, keep up the good work and keep posting pics.

It might be a good idea if I listed the mods in the build.

Here is the pump setup just have to figure out what to do for the return hose/pipe. Can I just use ss braided fuel line or does it have to be sumersible line?

It has been awhile but I have just about all mechanical stuff done. All that is left is to remove the OMP (that I just hooked up), rewire the fans and a few other connections. I also need to get the intercooler piping bead welded to prevent hoses blowing off. the FC datalogit is in the mail as well:)
here are some of the latest pics from my phone. I went back to the factory bumper and fenders for now. http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f1...owwrx007/2.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f1...7/IMAG0132.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f1...7/IMAG0139.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f1...7/IMAG0141.jpg |
with a name like boxer2rotary it doesn't surprise me that you went with an FP turbo. I actually went rotary2boxer kind of. I've been working on and tuning STi and Legacy lately
You may not need the Kenne Belle boost-a-pump. A supra pump flows a lot of fuel with good wiring. |
I ran that same turbo on my 2.4L GSX I had before getting the RX7. There is a engine bay shot towards the end. I loved the turbo.

You got any slips or dynos to go with that GSX? Mean looking machine.
|
I bet that was a 10 second car easy. And it's not even heinous--impressive for a DSM.

It was recommended by Howard Coleman as he runs a Cosmo pump and a BAP at 20% and it runs the 850/1680 as high as 90plus IDC. I figure the supra pump flows even more than the Cosmo so it is more of a safety with some room for growth. |
Anyone know the outcome of this set-up?
