Absolutely!....the pink came out great. Not completely done yet..but I did take my thumb nail to a part of the dried paint that no one would see.. and guys...this stuff is really hard. I put a lot of pressure on it..scraping my nail across the pink...and it really held up. No scratch that I could see..and I'm not even positive the paint was done drying completely. Hopefully more updates soon!

Boost by gear.......oooh so excited.

Also...ordered a wideband. Innovate MTX.. Purchased it From Turbosource

JBF 02-04-13 10:10 AM

I see Elliot swayed you to Adaptronic as well! I'm ordering mine when I return home from my business trip.

mannykiller 02-04-13 10:37 AM

^ whats up john! you ever going to get this pulley? I keep looking at it ...and I keep wanting to throw it in my parts bin haha. Just pick it up already!!! The adaptronic is going to make our old beloved PFC's look like duck hunt from the original nintendo... hahaha. Glad you chose Adaptronic too!!! I'm just glad I can use my Mil-spec Rywire harness with it without having to change anything.. That alone is reason enough to make the switch!!

JBF 02-04-13 10:41 AM

I ended up ordering a Touge Factory pulley set. I completely forgot to let you know! haha.

mannykiller 02-04-13 10:50 AM

^......RUDE!!! hahaha no prob dude.. I got the same set. Have you picked up an idler pulley? the main crank pulley is quite a bit smaller... contact patch on the water pump is hardly enough for an indian burn... I sourced a used but BNIB pineapple racing idler pulley on a score of a deal!! they're really nice though!

JBF 02-04-13 10:56 AM

I'm keeping the stock main crank pulley. I picked up the new low mount idler pulley from Pineapple a couple months ago. I don't know if he's advertising them publicly yet, however.

EDIT: here it is

http://www.pineappleracing.com/fdidlerpulleykit-2.aspx

mannykiller 02-04-13 11:07 AM

^oooh that looks nice. Might as well use the main crank pulley then huh? Looks like the same bearing and size pulley for the idler....just different mounting spacer/bracket? Looks nice! I could've benifitted from that lower mounting location, as I only have about an inch and a half from my Compressor cover to the pulley itself. Should be ok though. How far along are you? and did you remove the sound deadening from your car yet?

JBF 02-04-13 11:31 AM

It's the same pulley and bearing set. Just a different bracket.

I haven't done much since my last update in the Rotards group. I've been traveling for work and haven't really had time.

One day I'll start a build thread. lol.

Little Update:

Sooo I got 2 more cans of pink and was able to finish up the paint job last night. You know...after doing this... theres no way in hell i'll paint again. I just don't have the patience for it. But I guess this is what doing it yourself is about right? finding out what you like and don't enjoy doing. ...and paint.. I don't like doing haha. I'm glad I did it, but I just don't want to do it again.

The paint looks good...but there are a couple light spots.... like by the frame rails on the passenger side trans tunnel and by the brake booster. Luckily you won't see this areas but I'll try to touch up these areas as best as possible. The acrylic clear really laid on nice and smooth. I was surprised at how good it came out. Check it out!!

Attachment 683319
ohhhhh sooo smooth..not bad for rattle can huh?!
Attachment 683320

Also... The Adaptronic should come in here in about 2-3 weeks right when everything should be ready to go and the ready for the first start. If anyone here has any questions about the Adaptronic.. post away. i've become pretty familiar with many of the features and If i don't knwo I'll find out. The Adaptronic's support team is really next to non!! I feel like I have my own personal engine management team haha.

I also ordered a Innovate MTX-L wideband to pair with it..and it just straight plugs right into the adaptronic.

Also on order...is the AEM Marine coils and harness i'll be running. Looking forward to getting this thing started and driving and burning some rubber!!

ooooo and lastly.. my housing to turbo manifold studs came in... THey're OEM but they are a little long and with long studs.. sometimes removing the manifold in the bay becomes a haslte.. So I may end up using shorter studs on the top.. we'll see. Anyways... Updates soon!

What all is being done that color, is it just engine bay only? Its ...uhm... bright lol. And I agree on the painting thing. Over the years ive given paint and body work a shot on a few occasions, and to me its the most frustrating and boring job ever. I just dont have the patience for it. I did the engine bay in my FD similar to what you just did, and it turned out well, but it was not an enjoyable process.

Yes,.....just the Engine Bay will be this color pink. Now that i'm looking at it in the light though.. I still wish it was a little deeper..a little more metallic. But I am happy it didn't come out that soft baby pink. And yea.. painting just isn't my thing haha. I'm going to be taking the car to a buddy of mine for the exterior. And it will be Black....black as a demons soul. No pearl... just Black:icon_tup:

How many auxilary 0-5V inputs does the plug and play version have (for adding dual EGT, oil temp, oil pressure, fuel pressure, ect.) while still maintainging OMP control and A/C? Additionally, how about spare input switches or configureable high side / low side outputs for triggering relays, fans, lights, etc. How about on-board internal data logging?

I have done a quick search, but could not come up with this information.

jaggermouth 02-05-13 03:44 PM

I'll be going with an Adaptronic in the future as well. Looks like a well designed product and easy to tune. Unfortunately, I'll have to wire it in to my FC, no PnP :(

Engine bay looks awesome

None on the plug and play version. The plug and play ECUs are designed just to run the car with the original wiring, with inputs for serial wideband and maybe a spare output / input. The RX7 actually uses up a lot of outputs and inputs.

You could reconnect the fuel temperature sensor (which we don't use) as an oil temperature sensor, and you can use the serial input to do up to 4 channels of EGT via the Innovate TC-4 (and wideband lambda as well). For example on my engine I have one EGT on each exhaust runner and then one after the turbine. The Select ECUs don't have built-in logging; for a bit over $100 you can use a Zeitronix Black Box logger, but we've found that most people that are serious about logging want to use a dash like a Racepak, Race Technology etc.

But if you want a lot more inputs and outputs then really the best thing to do is look at the e1280s ECU. It has 16 analogue inputs, 8 aux outputs (high / low side, rather than just low side on the Select ECUs), 12 injector outputs (plus 8 of them can be used as low side drivers if you're not using them for injectors). The 1280 has 512kB of internal logging where you can log 15 channels (you choose which), and it can also log these to a USB stick. Logging to a USB stick means a maximum logging frequency of 10 Hz (100 ms samples) but it can log internally faster than this (for less logging duration obviously).

We're using the 1280 on Ric Shaw's enduro FD that we're running in the Bathurst 12-hour, which I'm about to go to today. We originally use the 1280 in his car because he was running the 20B engine, and then he wanted to use a bunch of outputs to drive a 7-segment gear indicator display (sequential box) before we had the race dash.

Thanks!
Andy

Thanks for the info! I recently switched from a PFC myself a little while ago, but at the time I had not heard about these Adaptronic ECU's. It looks like the plug in versions would not be for me, but it sounds like a great PFC replacement. The universal version is where the real advantage is. The inputs/outputs are great to have and I love internal logging. I have it setup for loop logging to log any time TPS% is over 60%. That way if there is ever an issue while im on the street without a computer I can pull the log and see what happened.

I'm really curious to see how the adaptronic works. I'm seriously considering replacing my power fc with the plug and play unit...I just want to see how other people like it first lol...especially since I've had literally no problems with my power fc. I really want it for constant learning and tuning it does by itself, the internal map sensor, the boost by gear, and traction control. I really want to see this all in full effect in a street driven vehicle. Your build looks amazing, great job.

not much of an update besides parts ordered:

Adaptronic Plug and Play engine management
Innovate MTX-L Wideband
AEM Marine coils and Harness from C. Ludwig

The paint seems to be curing a little slower than I had expected because it's been on the chilly side. Wondering if it would be ok to use a heat gun lightly over it just to cycle it? We'll see. But Wrapped my Down pipe with Mishimoto exhaust wrap. I was going to use the DEI titanium wrap but the Mishimoto had a much higher Direct Heat Contact temp so I ended up going with them. Besides that... I kept finding myself looking at the DP and really admiring how visually appealing it was haha. Wrapped the WG dump tubes as well.

^ Thanks Mark!!

Small Update

havent gotten much done because I caught a bad case of the european trash bug. No joke..probly thee worst sickness i've ever had... next to strep throat on an international 14 hour flight without anti-biotics. Put it this way....I had to take 3 showers last night because i woke up soaking in sweat, disgusting... my skin hurts, i have a headeach, fever, and my body feels like it's been hit by a train. ... Even had to take the day off from work. But hopefully i'll feel good enough to get into the garage for a little assembly here and there.

As the Clear coat begins to cure it gets harder and harder every day. I'm hoping it gets just as hard as ll of my suspension components. They're really tough.

Super excited to get the Adaptronic Plug and Play Engine management system along with my Innovate MTX-L and even some new Spark plug wires that have set the new standard for ignition and the rotary!!

But I'll never ever.......ever get over dropping 150.00 On 4 spark plugs. They came in yesterday. NGK R7420's heat range 10 leading and 10.5 trailing.
Attachment 682927

going to start assembling the motor bits here soon. Looking forward to progressive movement

FullFunctionEng 02-10-13 01:37 PM

Glad to hear you're going with the Adaptronic.. Now we can get you setup with a real crank trigger setup!

^ i'll talk to you soon Aaron!

Onto small updates... had to take friday off work....was practically unable to get out of bed upon the weekend and took monday and tuesday off work as well. Just started feeling better this morning and I actually felt much better. So halfway through the day I decided take a walk around the block. It was pretty nice out and I didn't faint from dizzyness haha...so I figured I was ok enough to sit down and work on some small motorbits I'd been meaning to get started.

First stated by really cleaning off my motor. All the dusty crap etc was blown off via compressed air and then I took some brake cleaner to some stains the motor had accumilated over the past year or so haha. So now that the engine bay paint is all dry and hard I decided to get things ready for final assembly. Since I no longer have my cross member installing the motor with the trans is even easier now =-)

So took me a good 15 min to find all my LIM bolts I had originally put away somewhere..but I found them. Gasket, LIM, Bolts.... Whaa...laaah
Attachment 682419
Then I went ahead and installed all my new SPark Plugs NGK R7420's 10's and 10.5's......as well as my Knock Sensors.
Attachment 682420
Tightened up my Oil filler neck nice and secure so I didn't forget later on and also found 2 of the 3 missing bolts that held on my Power Steering bracket and secured them on nice and tight as well...heres a better look at it it.
Attachment 682421
Fixed my Turbo Oil drain problem where it was hitting the tension bolt. Slapped some Super Copper on there just for good measure.
Attachment 682422
and installed the fenders and trimming around the engine bay as well as other little things I took off for paint. And here is where the bay sits now
Attachment 682423

Updates soon!

JBF 02-13-13 12:02 AM

What did you do to fix the drain line issue? I just shaved some material off the head of the bolt until the fitting cleared.

well it fits......but BARELY So I just tightened the line onto the Fitting first...that way I wouldn't have to move it (tighten it..which was when it would hit the tension bolt) other than just sliding it on and tightening the nuts that held it to the block. It actually was pretty easy.

JBF 02-13-13 12:17 AM

I wasn't that lucky. I actually had to shave about 1/16th of an inch off the head of the tension bolt -__-
