woooooowwww!!! took me 2 days to go thru this whole rebuilt..
great job you doing there.. im about to start some thing like this too.. just got a 1994 that was involved in a engine bay fire (very usual on FD's) i might not go so far like you but definitely there is a lot of cleaning to do .. |
Thats awesome man, let me know if you have any questions! i'll help you with whatever I might be able to and if not...refere you to someone who knows!
Anyways heres a slight update.. Got my links painted and used the heat gun after a day of drying to harden the custom ceramic paint...and let me tell you guys.. It looks great and is impressively hard! Heres some pics of the process and final product: Before Sand-Blast.. http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/y...909_164243.jpg after Sand-blast.. http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/y...909_164227.jpg Painted with Custom Ceramic rattle can http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/y...914_213356.jpg close up http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/y...914_213921.jpg I also got something in the mail yesterday... My I.D. 2000's... For the most part I've been purchasing everything I can.... in good used condition. These Injectors were from Allrotor3... me and him have been playing tag with parts for a while now and I think a lot of people could benefit and save a lot of money by sourcing good used parts here on the forum. Anyways! Parts porn.. I love stuff like this... http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/y...915_183200.jpg http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/y...915_183001.jpg P.S.. does anyone know how I can find out if I have the correrct O-rings on my injectors... . |
Where did you get that custom rattle can paint? I wish I could do mine over right now with better paint :(
|
Picture edit... The first pic in my update is not right.... ill post the right pic later today.
Chud..... Av auto paint. It isn't the cheapest paint but its worth it. 30 bucks for 2 cabs but they go a long way. I'm sure they take items and would ship cans if you wanted. Want their phone number? |
wow, those links look awesome... Hope I can make my project look as clean

Mannykiller,
I also considered the FEED fenders; however, they bow outwards towards the top as a means of making the fenders wider, meaning that the top half of the fenders are wider than your bumper's width, which makes the car look unbalanced, or "top-heavy." Imagine looking at an aircraft carrier from its front to get an idea of what I mean. Any rear add-ons will also have that "aircraft carrier/unbalanced" effect. Respectfully this is just my opinion, and I've recently bought freshly new OEM fenders to replace my Burnout fronts. Also, +1 on the Banzai Diff Brace. I noticed the car is more stable under off/on throttle and braking during high-speed cornering, and there's only a small increase in noise. And I luuuv my Craft Squares. The visibility is great, and they're definitely an add-on that actually enhances the stock form. Thanks again for sharing your progress and posting all the pics! |
^ I do understand what your talking about..but I may have to disagree with how it looks. If you've seen any straight on shots of most of the feed kitted cars... I think they look absolutely awesome..not so much because of the front end..but how the fenders add a little width to the car. I think the top heavy "aspect" your talking about can be solved with wheel fitement...nothing too aggresive..but done right I think it can be pulled off. I also might be waiting for a certain vendor to finish their next batch of brace/reinforcement Diff units before I purchase the bonzai brace. If I can get a 2 in 1 brace.. I might as well hold off and kill one 2 birds with one stone...
P.s. Finally got to pay for my motor today.. This is a big step in the forward motion of my build!! |
So huge mistake on my part. I was mocking up my fuel rail/LIM a couple days ago and realized that I never checked to see if the rails would actually fit. The guy i baught them from told me they were KG parts Fuel Rails off his FD.. I got them for 100 shipped. So when they got here I checked to make sure they were in-fact KG parts rails.. and then looked for any defects.. They seemed fine..but I never mocked them to my manifold.. Lesson learned.. If it's too good to be true.. then it's just too good to be true haha. They're now for sale in the 2nd gen parts forum. Lesson learned though...be more dilligent!!
Also decided that i won't be selling my Greddy FMIC.. I've seen an example that has inspired me to keep it for my V-mount set up. It's going to work beautifully. Cut off the tabs and started griding it last night. I love the way brushed Aluminum looks!! And once again.. i might have changed my mind on rear wide fenders i'll be riviting. I think if I do it right... I can pull it off. Chargespeed Rear +50 over fenders... So it's up in the air again.. This http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/y...verfenders.jpg or this http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/y...r/IMGP2868.jpg |
I like the second one better, but that might just be because of wheel fitment.
I bought a KG Parts kit off someone a few years ago (I won't say who) and I got an RX-8 primary rail. It took forever trying to fit it, and the injectors didn't fit into it right either. I finally got ahold of KG Parts and they told me it was for an RX-8. |
^ yes but imagine the silver car with my style of wheel fitement!!!! .....it could be just right.. only prob is chargespeed fenders arent cheap... about 700 bucks over 470 for the origin-lab fenders...
|
I got a secondary KG fuel rail for sale. I bought it to go on my TII motor and it doesn't fit the manifold either, you interested I'll snap a pic with a tape measure next to it? It is made for a FD. 100%

I love the chargespeed, go for it.

Took about 2 hours last night and went through both sides of my intercooler to straighten all the fins.. It wasnt very fun hahaha. But I figured the path of least resistance will yield a half assed finished product. Performance first:icon_tup:
I used a fine tipped flat tipped screw driver for the fins. Some of them were a pain but most of them werent too bad. Also, I cleaned all the dirt and grime off each row with my dremel and the abraisive sponge bit. Then used my grinder to brush the alum on the end tanks and grind off the greddy logo. Cut off the mounting tabs with the cutting disk and smoothed the area out. The IC is ready for fabrication:icon_tup: Before http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/y...919_170144.jpg http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/y...919_172840.jpg http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/y...913_081228.jpg http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/y...913_081219.jpg After http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/y...921_100709.jpg http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/y...921_100738.jpg |
i say charge speed, cause they look sick lol.. but im sure u could pull both off hahha.

If you cut the inside of the weld on both sides and then take a flap wheel on a grinder you could remove that old bracket all together where your thumb is in the 4th pic.

Yes they do.

they do now.
Actually I'm pretty sure it was the computer I was on earlier, a lot of pictures on different forums weren't showing up. |
^ man FDmuri... update your Build Thread!! your set up looks great! Love the Fab work on your IC for the twins.. and what made you put the BOV on the hot side of the IC compared to the IC outlet? Was that a greddy core like mine?
Havn't done much.. but i'm about to buckle down and finish my body harness tonight.. I just hate electrical... - ap |

Removed a bunch of the Silicon or whatever the hell this stuff was... What a pain.. Pulled the fender off as well to get some work done this next week. Also just quickly went over the old green with some rattle can black. I can't stand the green hiding in-between and under everything.. ughh..
http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/y...524_161946.jpg Before http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/y...524_161959.jpg Took the grinder and wire wheel to it.. http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/y...524_190329.jpg If anyone else does it.... lay down some dirty towels or something to catch all the grit.. because it really does get everywhere... fyi - this stuff is called seam sealer. |
i'll take note... thanks...
