Antigravity Batteries - Update
Hey All,
If you follow my build thread you will be aware that I had a major issue with my battery that lead to some expensive trouble shooting. The Lithium battery in question was an ANTIGRAVITY rs-20. The issue occurred in Late July 2017 and the company customer service was excellent with fast replies and they spoke on the phone directly with the guys at ForceFed to try to troubleshoot the issue. I never found out what went wrong, but the end result was that they offered take the battery back for a full refund late July 2017. Unfortunately due to various innocent reasons (i.e. life!) the battery was not shipped. It was eventually picked up by a courier and AntiGravity received it late September. Despite the two month delay, AntiGravity still honored the full refund. This included not only the purchase price and shipping, but they also paid for the return from Canada to the USA. This is especially decent as I initially I collected it from the states via a shipping outlet at the border to save money. I thought this was really nice considering they could have refused as they did not ship it to Canada in the first place! It is unfortunate that at the time it did not work out as I really wanted it for the weight savings (it only weighs 10lb!). However I hope to work with them in the future to see if we can find the issue and enable me to use this battery. In short, I wanted to share my positive experience anyone who has read my build thread. Hopefully this also helps build a relationship between AntiGravity and the RX7 community to allow more of us to find a lightweight battery solution Tom |

It's weird I just now stumbled onto this, but its awesome. The intense unique-ness of the FD and all the aftermarket options never ceases to amaze me. I like this car and build for so many reasons.... as a person who got lost in purely 'go-fast' parts and skipped the detail of what you've done, so I can really appreciate it and how the awesome it as a rare clean functional twin turbo FD. Anyone else see the resemblance in the lights and rear from the ferrari 458 Italia? Wonder who got that look from who? Skeese |

Spent a lot of time looking though all the wiring as the whole car was re wired. Tried adding grounds etc due to all the powder coating but that had no effect. Two OEM alternators died in the troubleshooting :icon_tdow Never worked out why, but swapping to the Optima Red top fixed it instantly. |

Skeese Lots of people compare the rear to the 458, but it was unveiled in 2009, this kit was released by FEED earlier in 2007. However the front is very similar to the TVR Sagaris (unveiled in 2003) so likely some copying there! Regardless, I love the kit. Photos really don't do it justice, video isn't bad but in real life it looks quite special. The proportions look better in reality, I notice it can look odd in some shots. For example the rear end doesn't seem as "long" as the photos may indicate in real life. However it definitely seems wider in reality, those arches and hence the rear end are really fat! The rims have 12" barrels! |

A little more information in the battery issue:
The only other symptom was that the car would fire up, idle for about 5-10 seconds then die. We really have no idea what the issue was. I speculate that it was an internal fault with the battery itself - the AntiGravity unit was pretty complicated and had a "re-start" function that held back capacity in reserve for emergencies. I am wondering if the initial power draw to crank the motor with the upgraded coils drew down the battery into this reserve and it shut off to protect itself. At that point i guess the alternator worked too hard to compensate and run the motor alone. Even now with the Optima Red Top you can tell that there is a lot of draw when you turn the headlights on. I think i need to upgrade to a 130A alternator. Then perhaps the AntiGravity Lithium unit will work. Those are my thoughts anyway..... |

My aim was to do the beautiful bodywork justice by bringing the engine bay and interior up to the same standard. I think I have achieved that! Still lots to do, but the car will certainly be one of a kind when it is finished. |

But now the major parts are almost finished, just brakes left now as the final visual touch. Then I will move onto suspension and bushings to improve the ride. Then onto my personal favorite part - the OCD calming stuff like swapping out all the nuts and bolts for shiny new ones in all the places no one sees :egrin: |

What a piece of art. :icon_tup: I feel this kit is one of the few that look fantastic on these cars. Love the TVR inspired lights, they flow surprisingly well with the lines of the car and the rest of the kit.
The color shifting purple engine paint is hot! Well, the whole engine bay is sexy of course :) |

It really does look quite spectacular in person. I have had many people comment that although the kit is crazy and replaces a lot of panels, it somehow still looks very much like an FD. Which I would agree with. That is the reason I personally like the kit so much more than the Veilside Fortune one. Your TVR comment really resonates with me, I grew up in the UK and LOVE TVR's. I had at one point tossed around the idea of dropping a 13B into a one....now I don't need to! As for the purple - single best decision I have made on the build so far.....it was the wife that finally convinced me purple was the way forwards :icon_tup: |
Reason for slow progress.....
So as you know winter is long here, meaning I should be getting lots of work done on the RX7.......
However, this winter all I seem to be doing is shoveling snow......and this years snow sucks! Usually it is soft and fluffy, so moving 4 feet of it isn't too bad. This year it has all been wind driven with freeze thaw, so it is compacted and there are 6 inch bands of ice all the way though it. The snow in the photos below required impact to break it up and took me a solid week to move. I fully expect this all to be full again in a week or so. Wow...blow away by this tread. I've never been a fan of wide body kits on FD's....the FD is art in stock form....maybe some subtle mods...wheels...interior. Your project has taken the art to another level...."it's a Picasso"....The tenacity and taste you have, found the right car (the car was lucky too!)....Truly a work of art. Thank you so much for sharing this in such detail, it's an inspiration to all of us who own and love the FD. I wish I could see the car in person!

I have to agree with you on the perfection that is the stock FD body. If funds were unlimited I would love to have a stock Spirit R in my garage next to this one. However I get a huge amount of pleasure out of personalizing a vehicle, having something totally unique and knowing it has my own work and time in it. I have always wanted to build a crazy wide kitted FD as my previous ones have always been a compromise. So I figured if I do it, I may as well do it right :nod: Maybe when this is finished I can get a stock FD as well..........:egrin: I will continue to document and share the build here. There is so much left to do and I am curious at what point the car might no longer be considered an RX7! |

Anyways, I am currently deleting the ABS (done) and putting in my IGN-1A kit and was wondering what kind of bracket setup you used and where you relocated the coils. I was initially removing the ABS so I would be able to position the coilpack there, in a straight line, but by the looks of it, my wiper motor is in the way and won't be able to do such a setup.

Progress........
Well it has been a long winter and many things delayed work on the car. Thanks to the change in weather I am now very motivated to get things finished and to be back on the road.
My plan for the winter was to refresh the braking system and the worn suspension components. I hope to be finished in the next couple of weeks and figure I should start uploading pictures of my progress….so here goes: I started by removing the front suspension components and by doing so I realized just how gross and dirty they were. The bushings and ball joints were way worse than I expected, all boots were torn and all bushings were rotting. Not sure how common this is at 140,000km but they were pretty rough. Good job they are all being replaced! https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...b7e1a92d43.jpg YUK! Once removed I decided that I do not want to work on the front end again (or at least for many years). So I decided to clean the wheel wells, re apply undercoat and re paint any other areas. As recommended in another thread I used spay in box liner which gave a really nice finish. I used POR-15 for all the painted areas and even got around all the wiring looms on both sides. Other than being dirty there was no rust or anything untoward in there. For some reason have no “before” photos with the fender liners off. Guess I was too excited to paint! The POR-15 was a pain regarding prep what with the need for both the de greaser and metal prep chemicals. But it was worth the effort as the finish is beautiful and very durable as you all know.
