Looks great!!

gracer7-rx7 03-27-20 03:21 PM

Sticking with the stock trans or swapping to something else like the Nissan CD009?

Johnny Kommavongsa 03-27-20 03:42 PM

^ stock trans at the moment. I have a spare FD trans and thought about getting it sent off to be made stronger but not sure who all does this. It looks like Pettit rebuilds transmission but not sure if they rebuilds them to make them stronger.

Question, what do you think about the redline trans cover? Thinking about getting it.

And thoughts on the spirit R cluster, it looks great but 2k for a cluster seems expensive

Last question, should I stick with OEM R1 seats or get them recovered similar to what I have in my BB

Kind of late, but I ordered a redline transmission / center console cover and the quality is as good as everything else they provide. I think it would definitely make the interior look better, and you'll keep the red stitching or whatever stitching them you choose going through more of the interior. Unfortunately I didn't realize the JDM and USDM ones are different so I can't use it :(

Car looks great Johnny, love the twins.

Johnny Kommavongsa 07-11-20 09:09 AM

^ thanks.

Been on the roads visiting different places the last couple of days.
- Visited a few bourbon distilleries in KY. Also did a little creek fishing
- Stopped by Defined Autoworks to check out the progress of the 4 rotor. Made some payments towards the engine and placed a deposit to start the header
- Hung out with IRP and JP3 and hoping to hang out with Goodfellas later today

Below is a quick video of Logan at Defined giving me a run down on the engine parts.

Great looking car! Turned out very nice.

Car looks great. I have heard, at least on 3 rotors, running the FD front cover so you can use the timing wheels from that are more ideal. Is this more of a turbo thing? Logan is the guy I planning to build my 3 rotor once I am ready.

Not sure. I will be NA and using a FD front cover. Logan is the man.

High-level summary on the engine parts
  • 2 new REW kegs were bought
  • I sold the following parts from the keg.
    • Rotors
    • Front iron
    • Rear iron
    • 1 set of oil pump stuff
    • Rear stat gear
    • Both e shafts
  • I had to buy
  • 4 S5 NA rotors
  • Center iron
  • Stat gear
  • Custom 4 rotor parts which included
    • Eshaft
    • custom rear counter weight
    • keyway machine front counter weight
    • stat gear machining
    • two machined stat gear housing
    • machine process to two intermediate side irons
What I have done recently
  • Fuel pump re-wire. Fuel pump now sees a constant 13v
  • Installed Walbro 400 lph fuel pump
  • Installed Banzai 2k starter
  • Ran 2 gauge wire for battery relocation
  • Modified the TurboJeff 51R battery tray so that I can mount it in the truck
  • How I will do the batter relocation
    • Battery terminal on fuse box to be removed
    • Positive wire will run to the starter with an in line 150 amp fuse
    • Negative wire will run to the engine
For the fuel pump rewire
  • We cut the big blue wire under the fuse box
  • Ran a new wire to the cut blue wire on the fuse box side
  • Ran the wire to an open slot on the fuse box.
  • Added a female connector terminal to the other end
  • Pushed down into the fuse box
  • Added a 20 amp fuse
  • Removed fuel injector resistor box under the brake booster
  • Made a jumper harness for the fuel injector resistor. Basically closed the loop on the fuel injector harness.
  • Tested and made sure I had 13v to the fuel pump while the car was running

You have to pull out the plastic part on the fuse block so that you can feed up your new wire

Attachment 745504

Ended up removing the heat shrink as it didn’t fit in the fuse box

It's been awhile.

Still haven't installed the IRP 140 Amp Alternator or ordered the antigravity 51R battery but did get an update from Logan.
  • The irons are machined
  • 1st stage motor balancing completed a few weeks ago getting all the rotors balanced on their axis plus match weight to each other
  • Will be finishing up the counterweights next week most like
Hoping to pick back up on the header and intake soon.

Attachment 744900

In other news, I started to get back into video stuff and did a video of my brother's rx8. Trying to get some drone flying and editing practice in.

Whoa here we are almost 13 months from my last update.

Engine is stacked.

Goal is to have oil pan, headers and intake built by end of March.

Once that is done, Logan will start on the ecu work,

I plan on being at DGRR this year. Not sure im going to take the CYM or the truck and bass boat. Currently leaning towards bass boat and truck as I dont really see myself sitting around all day not doing anything for 4 days.

Looking forward to catching up with some of you guys at DGRR as it's been awhile.

Any updates on the 4 rotor?

TwinCharged RX7 12-22-23 04:31 PM

Looks like the 4 rotor is happening!

assuming this is the same car. The guy kept mentioning “Johnny” and also referred to a CYM. So I’m guessing this is the car but could be wrong.

GoodfellaFD3S 12-22-23 04:38 PM

Johnny five alive!!

You are correct.

Sold the CYM on BaT in Oct 2022.
