I am waiting for my wheels to get here. I bought 18x10 +38 -18x9 +38 Work Emotions XD-9 in custom Flat black from Work.
I also got a R1 lip. While I wait for those I started working on the car. When I purchased the car the previous owner had 2 black racing stripes on the car . Lucky for me they were vinyl. Upon me removing the vinyl I got hit with the first obsticle in my new build. The glue from the lines started eating the clear coat. It didnt get too far so I set evrything aside and started wetsanding the whole car. A quick trip to a local autobody supply store I got myself- 2000 grit sand paper Rubbing compound Polishing wax foam and pad Buffer Heres a preview of what vinyl can do to your car over the years. http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...s/DSC_0281.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...s/DSC_0282.jpg |
Alot of people freak out when they get scratches as long as it doesnt go through the clear it can be buffed.
Key tips when doing this. - Keep your area always wet- a little bit of soap helps - Dont put too much force when sanding -avoid edges and trim- I have done a few cars over the years I got my little ways of doing it. - Water- sand-wipe- water -sand- wipe---etc http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...s/DSC_0298.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...s/DSC_0309.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...s/DSC_0312.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...s/DSC_0318.jpg Here you can see small low spots and dimples http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...s/DSC_0319.jpg |
Dude, very nice. You got a good deal. The car looks well sorted. I recommend you get a new steering wheel though. The stock ones are such crap.
|
Its coming along great. I removed a lot of scratches and swirls along with the racing stripe crap.
As of now I am done with the sanding and rubbing compound. I still have to do the glaze tomorrow. Everyone does their work diffrent , my advice for those who are gonna do this, mask off areas and do sections at a time. The car doesnt have to be all sanded for you to buff it.http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...s/DSC_0296.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...DSC_0320-1.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...DSC_0321-1.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...DSC_0326-1.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...DSC_0325-1.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...DSC_0323-1.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...DSC_0324-1.jpg |

First off, I want to thank you for your service to this country, those of us non-military people here can only imagine what you've gone thru. I really truly appreciate this, God bless you.
Secondly, congratulations on your car, that is one KICK-ASS ride! Finally, I am stunned by your polishing work on your car, the transformation is incredible! GREAT JOB! |
I like that engine setup. Very well done.
|
Alex,
First off, welcome home! Your service to us and our country is greatly appreciated and yet so hard for many of us to comprehend. I just hope for your sake you get to spend an ample amount of time here back in the U.S. You surely deserve it. Between Iraq and Afghanistan I have about 20 months, and still no signs of stopping. :-/ Secondly, your skills as a detailer are envied. I am trying my hand at it right now and seeing you wet sand has given me some confidence. Thanks for posting the materials you used, it should go a long way to help. Anyway, great work and Welcome Home. Mike |
Hey man... Sweet car... You live in the complex that my girlfriend used to live in... It is like 10 min away from where I live... We will have to get together sometime

Im kinda turned on by that trigger wheel set up the car has.....
|
You like that huh, well coming from a microtech family its new to me the way this car is set up. The previous owner kept everything that was running on the oem computer and installed the standalone along with everything. The trigger wheel is custom its welded on to the underdrive pulley and has custom brackets holding it. Weird YES! will it work in the future when i want to make more power--?---.
I talked to my tuner and we will see what we can do with this system since its not very popular. Maybe its got to do with the fact that it cost 2600 bux and its not as simple as a haltech or microtech. |
love it
|
your car is beautiful moar pics please

Keep the project going it looks beautiful. Thanks to all I really appreciate it , some people dont know the stuff we go through when we are in harms way but a simple "Welcome Home" or Thank You, gives me and my fellow marines motivation to do it again.

Hell yeah it will work! 10x more precise than any OEM configuration. All the big monies run that type of set up. I havent gotten there yet.

More goodies arrived,
Ferrari weighted shift knob- pretty heavy New d/s inner door seal My CSA plate with member sticker Update on my wheels, the tire place I am getting the NT05 ordered a wrong set of tires so they had to return them. They say I am scheduled to have my tires tomorrow so we will see. Ravspec forgot to ship my lugnuts and hubcentric rings because the wheels had to do a detour to Work so I should be getting them tomorrow also. Not really a "BIG MOD" lol but just trying to keep the thread alive. http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...s/DSC_0357.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z.../DSC_03552.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...DSC_0355-1.jpg |
Car looks amazing! Can't wait to see the wheels on the car...keep the pics coming....
|
you shouldn't have a problem with the front's...those Nitto Nt05's stick like a mofo...but get an ALIGNMENT ASAP as soon as you have the ride height figured out... the 265's in the rears...i'm closing my eyes and praying for ya in the rear...no question you'll have to roll the fenders...but you might have to pull them as well.. 265/40's wouldn't fit on my 9.5 rear...but in this case maybe the 10in wheel and 35 series will keep it clear.. Good luck man! can't wait to see it.
|
Your engine set up is insane. Very clean though, I really like it. Goes to show the effort you put into your car.
|
I have 275/40s on my rears and they fit fine with a bit of a drop, the rub a bit if I hit a big bump tho
|
NICE! good to see Dr. Turbo's FD went to a great home! CAN'T wait to see those Work wheels on.
Welcome back, and THANK YOU for serving! |
Thanks
Cool I asked Rishie from autoRnD for advice and these are the specs he gave me per my requests. Basically I told him I didnt mind rolling but didnt want to pull. He gave me the best fitment possible . I am running a bit of camber in the rear I am going to raise the car tomorrow once I bring the wheels home then adjust accordingly until I can get back to a safe yet aggresive stance. We will see, Mannykiller I got the NT05 because of you man..lol I was going to run azenis but when I told my tire guy I found a cheap place for wheels he beat them. |
sick wheels man!
