I don't knpw how you guys deal with wiring.

I'm currently removing all my gauges and head unit. What a pain

Just like your build my good man. Doing things how I like them, which means no ricer a-pillar gauges and useless gauges cluttering up my interior. :)

I don't having a ton of stuff in my interior, keep it simple and classy

Absolutely. I approve. I just ordered a new a-pillar as I want to get rid of the useless wide band readout gauge and just have a boost gauge. The single gauge ampillar mounts don't replace the stock piece and mine only came with the dual gauge pod that does. I notice my hand hits the second gauge on the A-pillar so it was for sure coming out.

That bunch of wires coming out from and under your dash looks intimidating.

Gotcha. I'm going to run Boost, Oil Temp and A/F ratio in the Flyrx7 Pod. On my previous FD it had the center speaker gauges as well.

The wiring will be removed by tomorrow. I'm gonna get a R1 din pocket with a single din head unit or get a double din with the works. I'm not sure but I'm leaning towards single din as I don't care much for audio.

I will be replacing the steering wheel as well. I like the feel of it but want a Nardi

Add me on Flickr. I can't see all your photos.

Looks good. I like the direction of your build. I agree with also swapping out the steering wheel. The Flying M Mazda one looks right but an old Momo wheel also look good.
Modding a car to personal taste will always have detracting opinions.
Like you; I think the stock stuff looks good and the 99 spec stuff can give it a more modern feel. I prefer a subdued look with no wing at all but I'm kinda stuck with the 93 look on a CYM. The color is too iconic as a 93 model to change anything that makes it anything but.

If I had any other color I would do a 99 front end and a wingless and wiperless hatch.

Btw getting back to personal taste. You may have seen it but I will PM you something to watch.

I think a Nardi will look better too.
Maybe this one, since you rock grey
Attachment 589887
You can put a Nardi in the middle.

Which one your thinking of?

About the Din
I wonder if the one from the protege is the same as the FD...they look quite the same.

This weekend I will have the answer.

Agreed on all points. I actually dont mind wide body kits such as feed. But once you start going that route, you gotta go all the way IMO.

Remove the rear wing if you like. I went wingless for a few weeks before I put the 99 spec back on. Looked great

Thanks, I"ll watch the video

I had the Nardi wheel on my previous FD. It's a more updated and modern look like Zoom Zoom said. It's still too big for my taste. I like a 350mm wheel.

BTW you should post your own build as well

Small update. Had a friend help me with the wiring because I just couldn't take it anymore.

Interior - Removed the ugly ricer A pillar triple gauge pod and threw it in the trash. bought a brand new pillar from Mazda.

Went from 7 gauges to 3 gauges. Two are Defi red racer Boost, Oil temp and AEM A/F

Still need to install the Shift boot and E brake boots. Will do that in May

Exterior pics to follow in Mid may.

Bruh..

What is this

https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2908/3...dc5ed0f9_b.jpg

Fly rx7 triple Gauge pod. Quality and fit are perfect

https://c1.staticflickr.com/4/3942/3...c10c2f33_h.jpg

In need of a head unit. I've ordered the R1 Din pocket from Mazda as well

Lookin' good!

7_rocket 09-04-17 08:57 PM

Some updates.

Re street CF (Shine replica)

S2000 antenna

Feed (shine replica) side skirts. I think every FD should run these skirts, simple but adds so much to the exterior. Probably my favourite exterior mod

Interior

Alcantara shift boot and Ebrake handle boot from ESH upholstery

R1 seats. I really like the R1 seats as they don't get hot as my leathers. They needed a major cleaning. I tried cleaning it myself but gave up. $50 well spent, pics dont do justice. I think I'll re do them in black alcantara maybe

Not pictured was the oil and fuel leak that I had. Next up will be a suede steering wheel, new turbo with manifold, wastegate, BOV etc

Car came with a rx7store turbo kit which is meh. The manifold is absolute garbage and sits very very close to the turbo.

7_rocket 06-22-18 10:11 AM

Small updates.

New wheels - Advan GT 18x9.5 +45 all around with 255/35/18 front and 275/35/18 rear. I should have went with 18x10 +35 in the rear though.

Any ideas as to what are good spacers?

Replaced the old momo with a new Momo MOD 69

You could always sell the rear pair of wheels for someone to use as fronts and buy yourself a pair for the rear in the size you want.
Those are nice wheels on any car. Good choice.

H_M 06-25-18 08:32 AM

Car is looking super clean.

18x10 +35 would look good in the rear. I'm running 18x9.5 +38 in the rear on 265/35/18 tires. It's about 1/2" from flush.

7_rocket 06-25-18 08:42 AM

Thanks guys. Yes that is the plan now.

I'd like the Odula insert. Maybe a feed hood or the replica MS that group A is selling.

Next up will be the engine. Going to replace the ebay turbo in there.

gmonsen 06-25-18 03:11 PM

Car and wheels look great and having them 4-square is probably a little better for handling and simplifies the issue of buying tires of different sizes and allowing rotation. Going with 18 X 10's on the rear is also nice. I run 18 X 9.5 all around and like it.

7_rocket 11-26-18 09:49 AM

Winter is long in Canada. Time for a HID retrofit that I've holding off for a while.

Mrmatt3465 11-28-18 08:25 AM

Great work so far! The wiring was a mess for those gauges. I can't believe some of that wiring that's crazy. Thank you SO MUCH for posting pictures of your wheel fitment. I've actually been shopping around for wheels and 18x9.5 +45 is the EXACT fitment I've been looking for but I want to do a 255 square [dual purpose street track day set up]. Do you have any rubbing in the front with this set up? Did you roll your fenders at all?

Matt

Thanks!

I rolled the fronts very slightly. Rears have plenty of room. 255 square is what is recommended for track it seems. The rears can be easily go 18x10 +35 to be more flush with the fender.

Headlamps on their way to you. I'm interested how they turn out for you.

moderu 11-28-18 11:51 AM

I noticed Flickr double posts photos when you use a computer but not from their app. Great work with the car. I agree on rear wheel fitment. Can’t wait to see outcome of the Morimotos. :icon_tup:
