7_rocket Build thread - Back to clean, simple and modest
Hey Everyone,
A little background. This is my 2nd FD, I owned my first one a while back and sold it circa 2009 and missed the car. So I went out and bought another one! Some details - 94 touring with 86000 KM's Silver The car came like this https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...a3263e644.jpeg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...7dccce368.jpeg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...73e84214d.jpeg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...d145375afd.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...d604b43588.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...1822c580cf.jpg |
So far I removed the C west headlights and put back the stock pop ups. Looks better in my opinion.
My plans for this year will be - Put on the 99 spec bumper and paint the wing to match the paint. - Powder coat the Work Meister S2R rims in black - Remove A pillar and put gauges in the center speaker position. - I wanted to get another single turbo kit but with our exchange rate, it will not be possible |
Nice car how much did you end up getting it for ?

I can't wait for spring. Edit. I removed the turbo timer and cruise control unit. |
Nothing really new to report, just waiting for the weather to get better.
I got a pair of dual r1 oil coolers going in along with the 99 spec bumper. Will paint the 99 wing to match the car Here are pictures of my old FD that I sold in 2009. I had it for probably 7 years or so. This car will look similar minus the rims of course. <a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/134227999@N04/25847042305/in/album-72157656945103038/" title="received_10207186688040271"><img src="https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1654/25847042305_2cffeff40c_b.jpg" width="864" height="648" alt="received_10207186688040271"></a> <a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/134227999@N04/25751949371/in/album-72157656945103038/" title="received_10207186688080272"><img src="https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1575/25751949371_faf8e3d195_b.jpg" width="861" height="646" alt="received_10207186688080272"></a> <a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/134227999@N04/25821010466/in/album-72157656945103038/" title="received_10207186688000270"><img src="https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1447/25821010466_4d6667a343_b.jpg" width="915" height="686" alt="received_10207186688000270"></a> |

Slight update. More many years I wanted the Odula CF insert along with the CF sides to match.
I saw one for sale so I had to grab it. I'm not really sure if its a replica or original but it fits perfect. Oh and finally I had the car washed. My cousin was grateful enough :) Thats not damage. It's water <a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/134227999@N04/27071203361/in/album-72157656945103038/" title="20160520_185835"><img src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7634/27071203361_192f59c4a4_c.jpg" width="800" height="450" alt="20160520_185835"></a> <a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/134227999@N04/27071205071/in/album-72157656945103038/" title="20160520_185805"><img src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7008/27071205071_926112a45e_c.jpg" width="800" height="450" alt="20160520_185805"></a> <a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/134227999@N04/26534057504/in/album-72157656945103038/" title="20160520_185818"><img src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7273/26534057504_69a14126df_c.jpg" width="800" height="450" alt="20160520_185818"></a> <a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/134227999@N04/27106193526/in/album-72157656945103038/" title="20160520_202732"><img src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7228/27106193526_4dfa55b260_c.jpg" width="800" height="450" alt="20160520_202732"></a> <a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/134227999@N04/27044742842/in/album-72157656945103038/" title="20160520_202601"><img src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7165/27044742842_028b055299_c.jpg" width="800" height="450" alt="20160520_202601"></a> Rims are WORK S2R. I wasn't a fan of them before but seeing them clean, I think they're sweet |
I have put install the 99 spec bumper and get it painted along with re painting the 99 spec wing and remove a little dent in the passenger side rear.
After that, get a detail. Remove gauges and put Speed hut ones (boost, oil temp and a/F) |
That wing is so sexy. I can't wait to see it with the 99 bumper. The black carbon fibre will look awesome with the silver.

I plan to get the feed side skirts as well to complete the exterior like my last FD. Love your build! |
Definitely keep the rims! I'm choking up just thinking about it.

Car looks pretty clean, I'd focus on cleaning up that interior and wiring mess.
I recently worked over the interior of my '90 Vert and it looks like a new car. I pulled the carpet, pressure washed it, and let it soak in a spare trash dumpster full of water and black RIT dye, came out looking amazing. Then I did the full Leatherique treatment, which means wet sanding in their dye, and the seats went from rock hard to soft and deep black. Having seats and carpet out makes it easy to get under the dash and clean things up. How's it look under the hood? Oh, and I definitely would not screw with those rims! Those are a nice score. |

Drive side leather seat has a little wear but the car is over 20 years old, passenger side is mint. No broken panels of any sort in the interior Here is a shot under the hood. I plan to clean things up as well. Move the boost controller hose and fuse boxes. I'm going to buy the hood insulator as well <a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/134227999@N04/26538196643/in/dateposted-public/" title="2016-05-21_12-48-38"><img src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7665/26538196643_62a603137c_b.jpg" width="1024" height="576" alt="2016-05-21_12-48-38"></a> |

Worm gears are functional, but the standard ones will dig into silicon. You need something like this for silicone...
COMP Cams Gator Brand Clamps G31250 - Free Shipping on Orders Over $99 at Summit Racing Nice car BTW (tho not a fan of the e-brake) I went back to the stock Ebrake and shifter, just waiting on it to arrive. Going to replace my gauges with Speed Hut (Boost, A/F and Oil Temp) |
T Bolt Clamp
those work great and don't wreck the silicone |
Updates. My buddy took some pictures over the weekend.
I added the 99 spec bumper package. Filled the ugly holes at the rear that was exposed from the r1 wing and painted the 99 spec wing blade. On order are some FEED side skirts in Twill weave from shine. Oh, my 99 spec Turn signals. Melted! :( Now I'm not sure if I should get replica's or purchase the real ones. But being the OEM kinda guy I am, I think I'll go OEM <a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/134227999@N04/28285916952/in/dateposted-public/" title="my rx72"><img src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/9/8773/28285916952_bb06f5fe61_o.jpg" width="1920" height="1080" alt="my rx72"></a> <a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/134227999@N04/27773688954/in/dateposted-public/" title="my rx73"><img src="https://c3.staticflickr.com/9/8134/27773688954_eaecb48b71_o.jpg" width="1920" height="1080" alt="my rx73"></a> <a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/134227999@N04/28285917012/in/dateposted-public/" title="my rx7"><img src="https://c5.staticflickr.com/9/8816/28285917012_25c46b9655_o.jpg" width="1920" height="1080" alt="my rx7"></a> |
Very nice job on this! Let me know about the speed hut gauges I have debated on running them with a triple or quad pod. Right now I have the tri power dual with aem gauges
