Fall B3R 2013 - Oct 19-20

Ok, so the date is set as Oct 19th - 20th.

Those who have came in the past know how I am... and how I do things. I enjoy the group effort and everyone helping out to make this a great event. This involves setup, cooking, clean up, etc... DO NOT RELY ON ANYONE BUT YOURSELF FOR YOU TO HAVE A GOOD TIME!!! if you have questions about anything, please ASK!!!

The biggest part of the larger group get together is happening from Saturday evening and Sunday morning...

Saturday - Oct 19
?? - 6pm - make your way to Smokemont Campground in Cherokee NC
6 pm - At Smokemont Campground, start the fire(s), prepare for the cookout and the evening.
* Anyone who wishes to help with the grilling, please, don't hesitated to help out the others. We've all been to cook outs before, so this tends to run pretty smoothly.

Sunday - Oct 20
Breakfast - Individual Effort!!! - in other words, it's on you, go to cherokee, bring something, it's up to you...
10 am - For those who wish to do it, we will leave from Cherokee, back on the Parkway to Asheville. We will make 2 main stops for 15-30 min
- 1st - figure it out on the way! =]
- 2nd - just past Pisgah Mountain Inn (~mile marker 408)

The stop at the Pisgah Mountain Inn is where I will consider the end of the event. This helps keep the GA folks from driving too far out of the way to get back home. Anyone who wishes to follow with me the remaining few miles back to Asheville are more than welcome...

As we grow, things are going to change... this year I'm not going to lead a convoy on Saturday and everyone stopping in the same places as a group like I have in the years past. Not many of the over looks had space for everyone to park last year... This year no one is on "my schedule" on Saturday and I invite you to make your way down the parkway at a pace you enjoy, stopping as often as you like to take in the beauty of the area. And I will see you at the campsite later that evening.

Below I am posting my Saturday schedule, for anyone who wishes to "be like a native"... Anyone is welcome to join me for all or part of my trip, but I'm serious when I say I won't stop often or for long... just stop at a few of my fav little spots...

What I'm doing...
8:30 am - Breakfast in Asheville, NC - Cracker Barrel (west asheville - 5 Crowell Road Asheville 28806)
9:30 - 10am - Gas up, final checks on the car and gear...
10 am - Get on the road, head up down Smoky Parky hwy to Pisgah Hwy (NC hwy 151) to the Parkway and go South...
* I'll probably make one or two short stops - 10-15 min stops - and then continue on my way...
~ 1pm - Arrive at the campground, check in and claim our group sites.
1pm - 6pm - hang out, get lunch in cherokee, get food for the evening, collect fire wood...

If you have any questions, please ask... I know that Holly and Jeremy usually coordinate the ATL crowd...

If you would like a list of hotels in the Asheville area for Friday night, let me know, and I'll give you to look into.

In case you are wondering, yes I just copy/pasted the intro thread from last year =]

most people who come to this know how it goes...

We have Group sites 1 and 2 again this year.

G's 3rd Gen 04-24-13 06:39 PM

Cool. May try to make this. I love that part of the blue ridge as in my avatar

rgould 05-09-13 06:42 PM

rotorypolo 05-19-13 07:40 PM

i am planning on it also

DerrickS 05-20-13 08:18 AM

Looks like I'll be in town that weekend, so I can hang out for a little while, as usual. I actually get more excited about having breakfast with eggs (I don't usually get that - High Cholesterol) LOL!

msimonov 05-20-13 10:46 AM

It's on my calender. Had a great time last year. Looking forward to it.

rotory_dial 05-20-13 04:32 PM

Looks like fun, thinking about this...

t_g_farrell 05-21-13 06:49 AM

I should have all the bugs worked out on my 80 by then, and be on board too :)

I should be there with at least one of the 7s.

Attachment 508923

I'm working feverishly in my spare time (LOL) to get both road worthy again.

Attachment 508924

I've taught the boy how to: turn the key until it fires & then let off, change the fuel filter, distinguish which pedal is the throttle, drain the fuel tank, and pull out the choke. He should appreciate everyone's cars this year. Not that he didn't last year.

Attachment 508925

I'll bring plenty of carving pumpkins. ... and beer.

Mr. Brown 09-02-13 05:15 PM

I'll be traveling South on the BRP from mile marker 199ish in Fancy Gap, Virginia near I-77 / I-81 in SW Virginia if anybody wants to meet up and caravan.

PureMdMa 09-06-13 08:36 AM

Well crap, Petit Le Mans is that same weekend. So im not going to be able to make it this year to B3R.

In that case I better start building up my ability to inbibe, I'll get started tonight!!!!

Cant get caught not doing my due diligence!

ROTORX7Holly 09-29-13 10:17 PM

Tray, is this still on this year? If so, only 3 weekends until B3R is on again.

t_g_farrell 10-01-13 03:25 PM

Damn! I still gotta brew more beer, not enough at this point.

I'll be there Holly, just make sure Ray gets his butt in gear to be there too!

yes!!! This is still a go!!! Great time to be had by all!!!

NoviceRotaryTech. 10-01-13 06:40 PM

I should go this year. Haven't been to this event in a long time. The bridgeport still runs. The event happens right in the middle of my fall break too.
How cold is it going to be up there this year? lol.

Cookboy 10-02-13 01:16 PM

I'm expecting to be at some portion of the event. My son ha a bike race weekend in Brevard, it all depends on what events he does on what days.

lt1_rx7 10-02-13 02:26 PM

So... due to the government shut down... the campground is currently closed!!! so yeah, this make a problem for the event...

I know some people will be travelling a few hours to get here for the event... but if we don't have a camp site then yeah, that's annoying!!!

i'll keep my eye one the campsite to see if it opens back up before the event... but not sure what to tell people about if they want to come or not... i know i'll still be making the drive that day...

Mr. Brown 10-02-13 02:35 PM

lt1_rx7 10-02-13 04:30 PM

i'm going ot look into a few things and see if i can find another location by monday

rwatson5651 10-03-13 12:01 PM

I would hate for this not to come off, Are there other possible locations? Maybe a different campground not run by the park service? Or maybe a cheap hotel that would let us congregrate and have a cookout onsite? I figure if they are accustomed to hosting bikers they could tolerate a bunch of rotorheads,

Just thinking out loud to try to come up with alternatives, suggestions?

lt1_rx7 10-03-13 01:09 PM

i've looked into a few other campgrounds... most of them a bit higher in price :( i'm still looking around and seeing what I can figure out...

Kentetsu 10-05-13 02:14 PM

Not sure if I can make it this year, but I'm working on it. :)

.

t_g_farrell 10-06-13 11:12 AM

I'm hoping they reopen between now and then. Brewing batch of beer today! Yum!

rgould 10-06-13 02:11 PM

Sheryl said we will bring the bolt cutters and open smokemont so we can have our event :nod::nod:
We will be down, open or not! We would like to see everyone and we need a break from the new garage project :icon_tup:
We should have 2 fb local friends with us if all goes as planned.

rwatson5651 10-06-13 09:36 PM

Im coming too, camp ground or no camp ground!!

Mr. Brown 10-07-13 07:04 AM

lt1_rx7 10-07-13 07:53 AM

oh, there is still plenty to do in the area and the roads are open... the trick is getting somewhere to stay that can support the number of people we have on such short notice...

DerrickS 10-08-13 08:01 AM

Anyone is welcome to camp in my yard. I'll even pick up all the dog poop and make sure you stay drunk. I plan on being at this in some capacity, and will probably be hanging for longer than my usual flaky self. :-)

t_g_farrell 10-10-13 10:50 AM

Beer is brewing so it will be nice and fresh!

I wish we knew a place to meet/stay.

Maybe we can move it to Rays yard? What do you say Ray? You have an outhouse around there still don't you?

lt1_rx7 10-10-13 03:47 PM

yeah, i need to call a campground... i was spending hte last few hours installing a transmission after blowing up my new FC on the drive home with it last night... so please bare with me!

Cookboy 10-15-13 09:54 AM

I'm going to Brevard Saturday for bike racing, heading north from there Saturday afternoon or night. Got a room at Fontana lodge. Gonna do some driving Sunday morning. Hope to see sommayallsomewhere.

lt1_rx7 10-15-13 10:04 AM

FOUND A CAMP SITE!!

Flaming Arrow camp ground... 5 miles from the end of the parkway...

Group Camping near Cherokee, NC at Flaming Arrow Campground

the picture on that page is the area that we will be in... Jonie recommends air mattresses and prefers cans over bottles... biggest thing, like always, be respectful of the area, throw trash away... no cans nor plastic nor bottles in the fire...

camp ground does have wifi and power and hot showers...

t_g_farrell 10-15-13 10:19 AM

Alright! Games on. $%$# the Feds. I got brew and I'm still up for meeting the OGTA coming up from GA in the Brevard Walmart lot.

lt1_rx7 10-15-13 10:23 AM

so yeah, can i get a quick head count of how many to expect??

t_g_farrell 10-15-13 11:55 AM

lt1_rx7 10-15-13 12:01 PM

So this is from Joni...

Directions from the Blue Ridge Parkway:
Turn Left at the end of the Blue Ridge which is Hwy. 441 South.
When you get to Cherokee, continue following 441S through town
(don't take 441 Business). When you come to a sign that says you are leaving the
Cherokee Reservation, (McDonalds on your left) continue South 1 mile and the
campground entrance is on the left. (Don't turn into the little motel---our big
arrow points up the road to the campground.)

t_g_farrell 10-15-13 12:13 PM

I guess its just the 2 of us Tray.
