Don't really have a target, just looking to see how well an automatic can perform when properly built and tuned. I mean 346rwhp on the stock TC was a surprise, the L10 should be the equivalent of installing an upgraded clutch on a manual. Hoping to get rid of that blip at 7K.

Any updates?

Sorry to hear that. Will you be able to continue with the business, you were always one of the best shops out there.

Banzai-Racing 07-29-21 05:32 AM

These are my personal cars, divorce does not affect Banzai

rotaryextreme 07-31-21 10:51 AM

Sorry to hear, it'll get better.

TwinCharged RX7 08-05-21 08:47 PM

I'd go for this one but that 15% buyers premium is insane.

GoodfellaFD3S 08-08-21 08:39 AM

6 days left, price is still very reasonable at $15k......

djSL 08-11-21 11:02 AM

There's also a 5% buyers fee in the fine print, so the total fee is 20%? Overall, it's still not a bad deal at ~18K. Tempted.

rotaryextreme 08-11-21 04:28 PM

current market trend this car is easily worth 20k, but yeah that 20% for fees sucks .. GLWS

Update on the Banzai Racing Auto FD

I ended up buying the car in November of 2022 from the guy who bought it at auction in 2021. It now resides in the Bay Area, California.

The car was still automatic but the original hood, Banzai Racing trans crossmember, 18' wheels and the 99 spec bumper had been removed. The seller included a used manual trans, used manual driveshaft, a previously repaired PPF and the old, unusable hydraulic parts with the sale.
In February of 2023 I jacked it up and began the manual swap laying on my back in my garage. I used the provided trans, and driveshaft from the previous owner with all new master and slave cylinders and a Chasebays clutch line. I installed an Exedy Hyper Single clutch kit and a new Banzai Racing trans crossmember with my auto PPF. A buddy modified a set of JDM pedals for me to use. I resealed the diff and installed new axle seals, the correct manual companion flange and upgraded the stock fuel filter to a 10 micron Fuel Lab filter assembly while I had the room to work above the diff area. I replaced the steering rack boots and upper ball joint dust covers with oem parts. I painted the calipers black after knocking off the corrosion from its life in its previous habitat. I was lucky and found a set of brand new 18" BBS LM wheels and tires local to me.

I painted the Greddy/Trust intake piping black and replaced the old sponge filters with a pair of new K&N filters and added a Pettit blow-off valve. I painted the PFS intercooler black and added an LRB cooling panel.

Inside, I moved the gauges from the a-pillar to the dash speaker with a Drakes gauge mount. A friend was selling a set of clean black seats so I snapped them up to help break up the tan interior a bit.

On 5/29/23, I took it for its maiden voyage as a manual trans car and it went good except for a 2000 rpm idle which ended up being a dirty idle motor.

Things to do: Have the hood painted BB from the crappy matte black hood that I bought it with and to replace the pillow balls because the rear end is knocking like a Swat Team serving a search warrant.

Congratulations, looks like it landed in the right hands

i ran the Exedy Hyper Single clutch for a time a number of years ago. like all Exedy clutches it is a jewel as to construction but it slipped at 500 rw. zero drag starts, proper breakin and i was only rolling into 3rd gear. i replaced it w the Exedy twin disc.

Thanks for that. You did a great job with the engine setup and the parts added so I started with a great baseline. The old girl just needs a little freshening at 30 years old. Now the idle is doing the crazy surge from 900 rpm to 1500 rpm, so I'll be busy sorting that out (Idles good with ISC unplugged actually)

I took the car out for its second drive as a manual yesterday. The clutch is super soft feeling and definitely softer than the ACT HD street I had in my turbo swapped Rx-2. I had some chatter in it too, but I think I need to get in there for a second bleeding of the hydraulics as the engagement is pretty low. Hopefully the chatter is just my crappy driving getting used to it and not a characteristic of this clutch setup. The car made 340 whp at Banzai Racing so I think the hyper single should be up to the task.

Howard Coleman 06-01-23 12:02 PM

i do understand:) of course torque is the metric w clutches. i should have mentioned ti rather than hp. i was probably low 400s as to Tq. i have a feeling you may be more than that.
