So if you use a complete FD transmission the shorter input shaft wont matter, but if you magically bolted an FD gearbox to a 20b bellhousing it would be too short.

ahh ok, got it :-)

Banzai-Racing 02-16-11 02:56 PM

Not to mention that even after doing all that custom fabrication to mount the FD manual trans to the 20B auto bellhousing, custom input shaft, PPF, driveshaft, custom slave cylinder etc.....you still just have an FD trans which would have just bolted directly to the 20B engine without thousands in modifications if the FD bellhousing were kept. Hence the nothing to gain statement.

yup, i understand what you were sayin now, I just was missing a few links in the chain the first time i read it :-)

Becuase I already spent a lot of effort/cost in my t5 dogbox setup/adapter to mount to a 13b rear plate, I may just use a 13b rear plate on my 20b build so that I do not have to rebuild the clutch/trans setup and can bolt up my t5 dogbox setup. the other option is to use the FD auto bellhousing with my t5 adapter/dogbox setup, but then I would have to redoe all the clutch setup.

As far as swaps go I have thought about doing the Howard Coleman T56 swap, or a R154 swap similar to the rotary works Formula drift car. Either way is expensive. I have heard that there are cars putting 900hp to the ground no problem with an FD trans and the OS Giken gear set, but I think that's just a rumor. Kyle Mohan drifts on WPC treated FD internals with 470hp. I wonder how much those could take?

Chris,
Amazing work! Very clean!

To anyone who hasn't worked with Banzai, I just recently shipped them my motor for rebuilding. I have nothing but great things to say about their customer service so far. My motor was picked up Monday and already they were sending mr pictures and updates. Now I hope Chris can salvage my front rotor and housing since the rears are pretty much toast.

Thank you Chris and Elaine! I mentioned a 20b to Miranda and she rolled her eyes, haha.

OK, really starting to get Spring Fever now. Today I fired the 20B up for the first time in months, GOD did it sound great!

Looking forward to getting it back on the dyno to clean up the 7K+ area and verify that the TB o-ring is not spraying water/meth any longer...then take it up to 20psi or so.

13b manual trans bell housing, mccleod adaptor plate from summit, t56, spec double disk clutch. Mine is mounted up(everything bolts right up after drilling the adaptor plate). The trans sits about 2" toward the front which a gto Shifter should make it perfect. I thought it was going to be more "custom" than this.

Great Works..i like...you guys awesome..

Banzai-Racing 03-30-11 06:28 AM

I will look into converting the trans when/if this one breaks.

Davin 03-30-11 06:57 AM

Do what I am doing and get in contact with Hewland for an iGT-C sequential gearbox.

I think I will just come up with something special. It is one of the things we do here, as they say....... necessity is the mother of invention

Is it correct that the APEXi PS REVO Cat back is now discontinued?

How would one go about grabbing one? The valve system is a ingenious idea, and it sounds great!

M

Banzai-Racing 07-16-11 07:04 PM

Yes it has been discontinued, you can still buy the inserts for the other exhaust systems, but they are not adjustable like the PS Revo. We just put together an Apexi Dual N1 with dual active silencers for a customer. If you want the PS Revo I would guess that you would need to ask for one over in the used parts section.

loving the sound if it.

Dark Side 7 07-17-11 03:14 AM

Since it warmed up to the 50's for the last couple days, I installed our Banzai Racing Transmission Crossmember and got a chance to take the car out for a few hard pulls to see how it holds up to 600+ hp. I can say it held up to every bit of abuse, the shifter had virtually zero movement and there was no increase in vibration or noise.

Thats amazing. Craftsmanship looks top notch. I had always heard that FD trans couldn't handle that kind of HP and Torque. I'd love to keep seeing updates on this car. It's one of my favorite builds of all time.

ohnono 02-18-12 12:15 AM

oh man... love that sound of 20b!
